He checked everything and gave us the go ahead. Everyone loved the car, it was luxurious and lasted additional 200k km, totally 360k before we got rid of it last year. Something just didn't feel right about the other mechanics, such as this one guy who always charged my dad $400 of repair when he brought his car in there because he knew that was the limit my dad was okay paying. After a while we stopped going to other mechanics and just brought our car to John since he opened at Kennedy. We have bought 3 cars since and always had him inspect it first. Never a lemon. He doesn't make you do un required repairs and when he does it, they are at more than reasonable prices. I tell all our friends and family to go to him. Everyone is really happy!

That included the time for the parts guy to deliver my parts. Has rear stabilizer bar bushings replaced due to excessive play and clunky noise. No monetary-value goes into a fancy waiting room or coffee machine. Summary: If you wish to pay for honest, economical and high-quality automotive services Gilman Auto is for you. If you wish your hard earned cash to pay for gourmet coffee machines, a fancy waiting room and a premium garage (with potentially inferior service), go to a dealership. Full Review: Welcome to one of the best and respected local mechanic shop in Scarborough Ontario. Raymond Lee has over 30 years of experience in automotive repair, maintenance, performance modifications and customizations at fair prices. In fact at first sight you will be turned off by the humble industrial unit, crumbling tiled waiting room floor, and half-naked calendar girls hanging on the walls. As you peer through the door marked "customers cannot enter work area" you will be shocked by the mass of car parts stacked on shelves and the floor, the hanging florescent lights and the foreboding presence of mechanical chaos. If you have the stones to refrain from judging this book by its cover, you will not be disappointed. Gilman Auto has a large "fan-base" of intensely loyal customers throughout the Greater Toronto Area consisting of import enthusiasts, club racers and performance fanatics. The reason these folks and yours truly respect and admire Raymond is due to his honesty, high-quality work and the pride he and his staff put into their work. Not only does he provide quality service for a fair price, he stands by his work. Unlike the dealerships Raymond's bread and butter is repeat business and word-of-mouth recommendations to friends and family. Additionally Raymond doesn't just fix cars, he also competitively road races (in a recreational capacity) his own race prepared Honda Prelude as evidenced by the numerous trophies displayed in-store. He knows his stuff, from common (but often expensive) maintenance to full out performance builds on both imports and domestics. Bottom line is that Gilman Auto offers high quality, open and honest automotive services at very fair prices. Keep an open mind and look past the facilities, you'll be glad you did. Oh and for the record no one knows what he says when he picks up the phone ... could be "Gilman" or "good afternoon" or "Mel Lastman". Don't ask, just tell him that Jerry from the Prelude Club sent you :)

Look it up on Youtube, you get countless hidden camera episodes that focus on deceitful false advertising from auto repair shops leaving consumers feeling a little less rich and screwed to the max. HEARTLESS PIGS! Dave is a direct and a real genuine human in an undisguised mechanic body that will give your auto 'buddy' the right touch so that it's back on the road taking you from A to Z without having to worry, "Did they use the right oil, or was it Canola? Dang it! OMG, people without a vehicle at the moment do not know how lucky they are that the only thing they have to worry about is their presto card refills!!!" Like really people, we go through too much already to have to even fight this kind of battle!! You call this place up, already booking some days is quite tedious as their shop is humbly set up, enough for only a few vehicles at a time and the work is tediously done without the acquisitive approach on giving quotes on excess work you don't need at the moment. Honest and hard working, the place where our gas guzzlers get pampered in the hands of sincere mechanics. This place is not only close to home, but definitely close to my wallet when it comes to a quick oil change, maintenance all year round and expert advise on how to care for your lover on wheels.

Without an appointment he lifted my car to take a look at what was wrong and proceeded to show me, in detail (and plain english) what was wrong with my brakes, exhaust etc. I knew I needed brake and exhaust work, and all other mechanics I visited gave me a rough estimate without explaining how, why or what specific work was required. Dave was happy to have me watch as he inspected my car, and then gave me a very fair estimate. When I picked up my car the next day, the final bill was actually less than he estimated, plus he changed the air filter (something he noticed that needed to be done while he was working on the car) Definitely a positive experience with a trustworthy mechanic in Toronto. Not the closest most convenient location to me (I live downtown), but just north of Finch Subway station (either walk or bus). I'll definitely be seeing Dave again next time my car has any trouble, and will be recommending him to family and friends.

He was friendly with me on my first visit, but was rather cold on the second. When I said that I want to disconnect a theft-protection sensor under the hood (a common practice for Mazdas of this generation), he explained to me that it is not easy to do and told me to go home and do it in my spare time. - Well, why would I drive there in the first place if I wanted to do the dirty jobs myself? I said I also want to check the transmission mount, but he interjected that the next customer was already waiting for him. He didn't follow up if I wanted to schedule another appointment. Second, the wait times and punctuality. Both times I visited him I arrived on time. Both times I had to wait while he was busy with something else or taking calls. And that's another thing: he doesn't have a secretary, so he has to take calls which sometimes last 15 minutes. On my second visit the job (replacing the horn) took him about 15 minutes. Another 55 minutes were spent with me waiting while he was in his "office". Third, the sneaky pricing. On my first visit he told me the labor would be 70 CAD, on the second visit it was suddenly 75 CAD. And that's in addition to the 60 CAD diagnostic charge for this trivial problem after my first visit. All in all, I paid 152 CAD for labor alone for replacing a faulty car horn. Not too bad, actually, in Toronto prices. But, unfortunately, I will not be coming back with the rest of the issues my car has accumulated over the years.

Tom has over many years helped me keep older vehicles in great running order…read more Most important of all, however is the custom work he has done on my 1989 Miata. I have asked him to install numerous upgrades on the car, including extra bracing, a high performance braking system, a complete new suspension with tubular steel structural components, a high efficiency cooling system and most recently, a top-of-the line Flyin' Miata turbocharger. As often as not, Tom has said "This is a great component, but I think I can improve it." And he does. In my opinion, Tom is something of a miracle worker. I know he enjoys an opportunity to put his considerable expertise and skills to work and it really shows. He has contributed enormously to transforming a lovely but modest little car into a special and unique super car.
