I do not know the questions they were waiting on but I was told that if I want the sidewalk fixed I need to tear out the sidewalk first and THEN ask for a root inspection to see if the offending roots can be cut out and if not then a tree removal permit can be filed again. On a separate note: I would advise anyone thinking of planting a street tree in Portland to reconsider due to the long term expense of dealing with the inevitable sidewalk damage and upkeep. That $75 per tree at the time from Friends of Trees has cost me thousands so far and will cost thousands more in concrete repair and is never ending. Once you plant one you can't remove it without replacing it and starting the cycle again.

Quality Performance was used to trim a laurel hedge and remove a tree on the property line with my…read moreneighbors. The trimming and tree removal went fine, but they neglected to trim about 6 ft of the laurel hedge. In the written estimate that all parties agreed to it stated "reduce laurel to 10ft." When I called Quality Performance to discuss finishing the laurel job they explained that the whole hedge was not part of the estimate. I explained that nowhere in the estimate did it say they would not trim back the entire hedge. They began blaming my neighbor for the miscommunication when it is Quality Performance's responsibility to clearly indicate what is to be completed in the estimate. When I read "reduce laurel to 10ft" I assumed that meant the entire hedge and not a partial job. The worst part of working with this company was their customer service. What is clearly their responsibility they turned back around on me and my neighbors and were not open to listening or making the situation right. I will not work with this company again and I recommend anyone deciding to use them to be extremely clear in their written communication about what is to be completed in the job.

The neighbor had topped the trees and they responded by growing sideways. The job was to return the trees to the original topped height and bring them in to the fence line making them look like a manicured hedge. There were 3 trucks and all work was done by climbers passing limbs to a ground crew on my side. I was impressed by the organization and crews ability to work in my extensive garden without damaging it. Some of the limbs were 5" and lowered by rope. My fence and garden survived. Cleanup perfect and trees filled in perfectly for both my neighbor and I. Crew and Forman easy to work with, saw my vision and took an interest in what the were doing. They also completely cleaned up the area to a point that you'd never know the trees had been there. 90% of the trees were 33 year old Itallian Cypress trees 35 to 40 feet tall. Our cherry plum succumbed to water intrusion and rotted at the points where it connected to the trunk, then one limb gave way into the road. We noticed darkening of the bark on the other limbs, indicating water intrusion, and with Peter's guidance, we decided to remove the tree to avoid another road closure and potential harm to people and autos. As part of the emergency service, he offered to come back on Saturday to remove the limbs and brush. He provided a quote for the emergency service and full tree removal. Their prices are extremely competitive for emergency work and whole-tree removal. We were able to have the tree removed today, even as the predicted light rain turned to torrential downpour at one point. The team left the site tidy, given all the sawing and debris, and finished the job quickly, in about an hour. We wanted to keep some of the wood, and they thoughtfully left it in movable pieces.
