Took a "Make a Thing" class here (also known as Hazard Factory) with my girlfriend. McKenzie was…read moreteaching, and she was great. McKenzie started the class by explaining some safety rules (hot things are hot, sharp things are sharp, bright things are bright, heavy things are heavy), she showed us a few of the basics, and then we pretty much jumped right in. We picked out our kit ahead of time (we made a pterodactyl), so we got our pieces and set to work. McKenzie wandered about, sometimes interjecting when it looked like you needed help (whether you knew it or not), or if you had questions. This class is NOT for you if you are looking for in-depth information about welding theory or if you want to gain a deep competence in the skill (although they DO have different classes for that). This class IS for you if you want to try something new, learn a little bit, and end up with a piece of home-made art you can drop a bowling ball on.

For Christmas my boyfriend and I were given tickets to the Feb 1 class, which ended up being…read moreSuperbowl Sunday and the Seahawks were playing. On the Wednesday night before the Sunday class I called to request a reschedule, because their website says to please give 72 hours notice if you need to reschedule. When I explained we would like to reschedule to the man on the phone he immediately and rudely denied the request, claiming financial hardship, in spite of the fact that I was giving over 72 hours notice. How can there be financial hardship when the tickets are paid for in advance and their policy clearly states you can reschedule with 72 hours advance notice? The phone conversation ultimately ended with him cutting me off mid sentence and hanging up on me, and my class wasn't rescheduled. I will not be attending this class or rescheduling apparently. The website also states there are no refunds. I can't reschedule and can't get a refund even though I gave the proper notice, so I suppose they are keeping what is now free money. I am disappointed not only because we will be missing out on what seemed like an awesome experience but also because I was treated so poorly on the phone. If 72 hours advance notice causes financial hardship for All Metal Arts Seattle I suggest a policy change. Also, a business that faces income flux from people rescheduling should maybe consider speaking respectfully to customers abiding by the polices the business has posted on their website. Word of mouth is a powerful thing and customer service can make or break you.

I have taken a series of lessons from Scott over two different periods. Through both sets of…read morelessons I came away with a broader understanding of how music works, and my playing was opened up and expanded as a result. If you are not familiar with Scott as a performer, a quick web search will reveal his credentials. He's been teaching for nearly 40 years, and is an active performer playing jazz, classical, and fusion. He is an expert player in a number of different styles, and counts a number of famous musicians as his students. I told Scott what I was interested in learning, and he tailored lessons to my desires. He has a tremendous accumulation of supporting materials - lead sheets for jazz standards, decompositions of rock solos, pages of scales and licks, and the list goes on. It seemed that after every lesson there would be some well-prepared supporting information that I could take home to further my practice and advancement. Scott is also very friendly and patient. His love of playing is infectious. Highly recommended!

I made more progress in a month than I had in several months leading up to the lessons. Now about 8 or 9 months in, and my skills are well beyond what I had anticipated. We cover a lot of detail, and playing guitar seems fun and easy - something I thought would be more complicated. Scott really listens to what I am wanting to do at each phase of development, and then applies his considerable knowledge to teach the concepts and techniques that continue to advance my ability to play. Every dollar is money very well spent.

Because the frame is so old and there was no one locally that could restore this frame I searched on the internet and found Mr. Boerth. I sent him pictures and discussed having him repair it. Since he trained in France I had faith that he would do a good job - and I wasn't disappointed in the least. Mr. Boerth was able to restore the piece so well that no one would ever suspect it had been damaged. He accomplished this task in the timeframe he estimated and his charges were reasonable considering the knowledge and expertise that he has. While I have never been to his shop I look forward to visiting next time I am in the Seattle area. I wholeheartly recommend him if you need a repair or restoration of an antique frame or if you want to buy an antique frame he is definitely the man to go to.

I've played in active bands in a variety of genres (pop, rock, jazz, metal, fusion etc...). I've done a music theory degree, and studied music both a serious industry member (live audio reinforcement) and as a performer. I can say, without any doubts, that Sam has been one of the greatest musical mentor's I've ever had the pleasure of working with. His knowledge of musical genres is unparalleled - he can seamlessly move between contemporary pop, classic jazz, world music (afro-cuban, afrobeat etc..) and more, all the while giving deep insights into the musical relationships between them. Sam's technical skill is exceptional, and his ability to distill complex techniques which he's refined over the course of years into small teachable lessons is exquisite. He possess the ability to identify strengths and weaknesses in a performer, and can use that insight to drive your development forward in ways which will truly expand your playing. His studio is large so it never feels cramped and set up so it's not super-loud during a lesson, which is a bonus!
