Hellish 8 day repair experience at Monroe Auto Centers. Never had anything like this, EVER…read more..
Dropped off my car late on a Friday with a severe grinding noise in the left rear wheel. Weekend staff found a different issue in the front and said I was mistaken. Needed to order the parts on Monday to be done on Tuesday. Got a call from the Store manager on Tuesday saying they looked at the left rear wheel and they found the real problem. Asked about the original diagnosis, said that's a known issue with weekend staff. Said that they needed to order parts and would need another 2-3 days. Annoying, but OK. But that's where started to go sideways.
Received a call from the manager on Thursday saying there was one part, a left rear brake dust shield, they were having difficulty in getting. Was told it would take another 3 business days to receive it. Suggested that I could find the part faster for them to install. Gave me the part number and after an hour, I discovered I could pick up the $16 part. Called back, confirmed the part number, picked it up and brought it to them. Found out they gave me the wrong part number and blamed it on the computer. Called their supplier again, the correct part was in stock and they would have it by tomorrow (Friday). Wasted literally 3 hours of my day in searching and traffic.
By this time, I was quite frustrated. Told the manager to get this resolved. Didn't take responsibility. Blamed the computer, his staff, the "failing store" and the "problems he was dealing with". Never had someone answer a complaint with their own complaints. Asked him if he was the manager, wasn't this his responsibility? He said, yes but not all of it...
Friday he called and said he didn't get the parts and they would be delivered on Saturday. By that time, I resolved to get my car on Saturday and bring it to another shop if they didn't finish. Called at 3pm on Saturday and they didn't have it ready. Didn't sound like they had started. Told me they would get back to me again with no time estimate. Told them to be ready at 5pm for me to pick up my car even if it wasn't finished. Arrived, ready to call AAA and one of the staff said another 15-20 mins. I said OK thinking, they were nearly done and came back 40 mins later. Was told they were finishing it up. Waited another 40 mins. No change.
Started asking questions about the earlier time estimate and whether or not they would be finished as it was after their closing time at 6pm. The staff member no longer remembered that he told me 15-20 minutes. Said didn't know how long. Told them if I knew earlier, I would have towed it out. Another staff member said it was unsafe to tow. By that time, I was mad...
Later, the manager arrived. Still couldn't give any estimate on completion. Told him that I'd already been there approaching 2 hours and I would have towed it out. He said "Nobody told you to come in. If you were serious about getting your car, you would have shown up with a tow truck". I then pointed to the staff member, who then again denied that he told me that it was almost ready.
I wanted someone to at least tell me with certainty how long it was going to take or to take responsibility for the delays and mistakes made. But instead, it devolved into him saying that I should sit or come back tomorrow with my "stank ass attitude" and that I could "Go ahead and leave a bad review" (didn't suggest that I would). I didn't want to go back to that store another day, so I stayed and finally got my car around 7:30pm.
Then as a final insult, they billed me six hundred more than what was quoted... Total: $2,979. Didn't argue, paid it, got my car and left.
Used to be a location that I would highly recommend. Now it's just a horror show...
