She took the time to understand our wants and our budget. She helped us choose the materials and the project turned out beautifully. When it was time for installation, they went above and beyond our expectations. I was fully expecting to have to pay a plumber to install the new basin, faucet, garbage disposal and reconnect to the plumbing. When I inquired about who we should call, Tami's response was, "You don't think we can handle that for you?" Some may find Tami's no-nonsense approach to sales and installation a bit abrasive. She doesn't tell you what you want to hear. Her long history in the business provides extensive experience and knowledge. She is looking out for your best interest. I'm not looking for a "friend." I want someone who is competent, experienced and will get the job done correctly. Anytime someone is looking for kitchen renovations, the Countertop Shop is the first place I recommend to friends, family and clients. Aside from the quality of work and overall experience, the Countertop Shop is a locally owned business that truly gives back to the community. Tami and her husband volunteer countless hours in the local Scouting Program, our Historic Miner's Theater and numerous community festivals. Their volunteerism isn't for vanity. Most of their work is done quietly, behind the scenes. I am thankful to have them in our community. Keep up the great work!

Metro Marble and Granite

I wanted to post this for anyone I know (or who sees this) as a warning about doing business with…read moreMetro Marble & Granite in Granite City (metromarble.com). As I write this, we have been engaged in trying to get completed countertops since the install date of August 10 2023. I will detail below our experience which I hope you will read before making a decision on a countertop fabricator should you find yourself in that position. We worked with them through a designer, which has complicated our ability to get what we consider to be adequate resolution. TLDR; Metro's installer stole from our house, installed faulty product poorly and blamed it on other companies. They refused to make it right. We have waited 2.5 months to get a complete countertop job and it's not done well. Don't use them! 1. We ordered and were quoted for a particular quartz from MSI. No one from Metro came to provide samples to ensure we were getting what we ordered. Unbeknownst to us, they swapped out the material to a similar product from Daltile. 2. Templating for the countertop was smooth and professional. 3. First install day the crew shows up, no one introduces themselves. They begin to bring in their equipment and the island and hit our freshly installed cabinets with the island top without so much as an apology. They set the island incorrectly and I ask them to move it, they did once and it was still off (and crooked). I asked to have it moved again and the foreman of the crew tells the others that they "don't have time to be moving it around, they still have to install the rest, template backsplash and get to another job". At this, I drop it and figure I'll get it corrected later. The foreman does not have tools to adjust the vacuum machine for the seams so they have to borrow mine--that's ok with me. The foreman then proceeds to walk into my garage and take my tape measure. I notice it's missing because I am also doing a project, I see them using one that looks just like it so I check the camera on my garage and sure enough, I see him walk in and take it. They have borrowed one tool and while I don't like that he didn't ask, I figure he is borrowing it. They start wrapping up and I see them walk out with it, so I ask if they took it. They all deny and as a special treat I have provided the video of the foreman attempting to prove to me that he doesn't have it. I mentioned camera to one of them after I asked initially so I assume someone pointed that out and magically it's found. 4. I complain to the design company about my experience and say I don't want the thief back in my house. About a week later, when they come back to install the backsplash, I am told I will be meeting with the sales guy and the manager of the installers. They are due early and the first to arrive at my house is the thief! I had to kick this man off of my property, which is completely inexcusable. During the visit, they acknowledged the issues of the previous install and our designer points out some flaws in the surface of the island. 5. Another install crew comes to do the backsplash, this time they are great. The problem was that the backsplash was not templated well and it has multiple gaps and has to be installed off center. 6. I call and complain again, designer has me talk to them directly. I ask the sales guy to correct the gaps and replace the flawed island. He assures me it will be done and install manager comes out again to have a look. Blames it on Daltile and the cabinet installer. Leaves and then crickets. I text, no response. I finally had to call the sales guys boss who tells me she will look into it. She calls back and they have submitted a claim to daltile which was rejected. I suggest a fix for the backsplash that would not require replacing the whole thing and she asks me to send a quote. She calls me back to say the the owner will not pay to fix the backsplash and is graciously going to replace the island. 7. Installers show up with a new island and it has scratches on the surface which are clearly from fabrication. I send them back with both islands and look for a new company. 8. Today is 10/27 and we are getting an island from a different manufacturer installed by a different company. We had to choose it because no one stocks the quartz they swapped out. Great.
