Overall, a very good experience if you have to get blood work done during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. They're currently only taking online appointments which work well as I've seen Quest Diagnostics waiting rooms get pretty packed when walk-ins are accepted. A patient even came in to see if they could try for walk-in but the front desk (politely) let them know it was online booking only. After checking in by scanning my emailed QR code on the machine, I chose to wait outside in the hallway as there were about three others in the waiting room - all six feet apart, but I felt more comfortable waiting outside. They texted me to come back in to provide my insurance card and then I headed back to the hallway to await my appointment. After they called me back in, it was pretty standard procedures to get my blood drawn, and off I went. Overall, it took about 20 minutes from the time I took the elevator up and back down out of the building. Good experience and only knocking one star off as there were more people in the waiting room than optimal. It seems that they'll be setting up a system soon where you can text them at arrival at the building and come up when it's time for your appointment, so that will be great! read more

Despite making an appointment 10 days in advance (the wait for an early morning appt), and arriving on time, I still had a 45 minute wait for a 2-minute blood draw. When I commented on the long wait, the staff member just shrugged her shoulders. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE !!! I don't know if all Quest locations are this bad, but the wait here is ludicrous. When everyone that has an appt. has left, they still don't call the standby list for awhile. I was late for my appointment and waited over 2 1/2 hours because I was 10 minutes late. People who were on time still seemed to have a long wait. Maybe the other locations are better staffed. From the periods when they had NO ONE inside and still didn't call anyone I'm guessing the phlebotomists at the SM location are either lazy or overworked and taking lots of breaks. I was quite afraid to get my blood withdrawn given the reviews, but my experience was a positive one! The blood withdrawal was flawless, it did not hurt to get my blood withdrawn and no post-bruising. As a side note, I did prep prior to going to my appointment by drinking a decent amount of water and maintaining appropriate hydration levels the day before. I do think most incidents of veins not being found and the occurrence of bruising can be reduced or avoided when some appropriate preparation is done. (Dehydration and high levels of caffeine is a common culprit.) TIPS: (1) drink water prior to getting blood withdrawn, (2) avoid caffeine so your veins are not constricted, (3) drive there with someone for parking purposes, and (4) the office is on the 9th floor. Parking (1/5 stars): In general, parking is very tricky in Santa Monica. I had difficulty finding metered parking at around 9:15AM. My recommendation is to go with someone, so that you can park in one of the drop off zones along the street, and they can stay in the car. Check In (5/5 stars): Check in was all automated! I had absolutely no difficulty checking in. The process was very flawless. You check in at a touch pad, and scan 2 sets of cards: (1) your ID, and (2) your insurance card. Interaction (5/5 stars) The person who helped me was concise. They asked relevant questions, set me up, told me the total cost of the service prior to withdrawing my blood, and then withdrew my blood. *This location has gained my trust. I will continue to get my get my lab work done here. Should my experience be different in the future (e.g. be negative), I will make sure to update my post. Otherwise, the content will remain unchanged as long as my experience is a positive one. read more

I've had the worst hurtful experience ever at Quest diagnostics this morning. It is 8/23/2024, @ 7345 Medical Center Drive, room 500. I had an appointment at 10:20am, from my house it took me close to 30 minutes to get there, showed up 10 minutes early, on my way I stopped to get breakfast and seem to have lost my form. So as I'm sitting in the waiting room I called my doctor who texted me the form within 3 seconds. Relieved I have it. After waiting for an hour in the waiting room full of people, finally a nurse calls me in, she looks at my hands and asks if I have the form, I told her I seem to have lost it on the way, but I have it in my text, she remarks "I have to go to lunch, don't have time for this", I said I can email it to you and you can print it out, she made an annoying face, I emailed it, then she checks her email says "I can't open it", immediately I called my dr who said "I'm faxing it over right now", the nurse immediately removes her gloves and says "I have to go to lunch, I'm not doing this", I pleaded and begged her to please, I just waited an entire hour even that I had an appointment, she refused and said, "I'm going to lunch, go sit out in the waiting room and when someone has time they will call you" I told her, the waiting room is full, I may sit out there till five and most likely still not guaranteed I'll be called, she said "that's right". I left in tears. I will do an update on her name, I was in tears and forgot to get her name. read more

When I got to the room for just a drop off, they told me I had to stand behind. I thought it doesn't other people because I first needed to sign some papers. I can only speak myself, but Gloria from the Quest Diagnostic center in Santa Monica was absolutely amazing. She patiently waited when my antibody request wasn't showing up in the system, and she stayed at the front desk to talk me through everything until the order was *finally* correctly faxed over (all while being so funny and sweet). When she drew blood, Gloria was AMAZING. No, seriously--one tiny, painless poke for two vials of blood. It might not be everyone's experience, but Gloria totally made a day of pre-travel blood draws super quick and easy. read more

this place is very dingy and shabby, one of the employees walked back-and-forth in the waiting room and didn't even bother to pick up a piece of trash that was sitting on the middle of the floor. There is no one to greet you, it's a digital type of check in, you have to scan your documents in but then once you get into the room, they ask you for your documents again. Why is that? UCLA Health is a perfect example of the current disconnect btwn the medical profession and those seeking medical care being addressed nationwide. I came in to simply drop off a sample and was greeted by a sign notifying the waiting room that there was "no receptionist" and to use the check-in kiosk. After bypassing the mandatory driver's license and insurance card check, I then proceeded to wait for 20 minutes to have my number called. I came in today for a blood test. There was no receptionist, so I made an appointment at the kiosk for 2:20. When I came back at 2:10 to check in for my appointment, they still hadn't taken people back for their 1pm appointments! The waiting room was completely full, no chairs available, and no one that would come to the front desk. After waiting about 45 minutes, I went across the street to Lab Corps. Backed up, check in machine didn't work for some patients. I had to check in several times as they kept forgetting about me. Not an easy job for staff but unorganized system. I was attempting to drop off samples. They told me to book an appointment if I wanted faster service but online but the next available was 4 days later and my daughters "samples" that I was trying to simply drop off would not be good in 4 days. I made an appointment online and followed instructions that were texted prior to my appointment; to use the link they send you to check in. I did so and was told I could either wait in the room, the hallway, outside, my car, etc. i chose to wait in the hallway, as the little office they had was packed. Yes, the few chairs in the office were socially distanced, however there were at least 10 people standing around. About two minutes after I checked in, I received another text to "return to patient draw center for collection". I went to the front desk and the clerk verified my name, insurance, doctor and address. He then told me someone would call me soon. I asked if I could wait in the hall again and he said it was fine. Five minutes later, two young women showed up. The front desk clerk at this point was on his feet and although they too were wearing masks (like everyone else thankfully), i noticed he took their temperatures. He didn't take mine. I also overhead him asking what time their appointments were and I heard their responses. In fact, he didn't greet me at all or ask any questions about my appointment. Their appointments were after mine. I then watched as they left down the elevator ten minutes later. I waited an additional ten minutes. At this point, I had been waiting for 30 minutes which was unacceptable. I then went into the office once again and simply asked "Can you tell me what the wait time is?" Immediately he snapped at me and had a complete attitude, " We go by your appointment time! It's only me here and one other person!" I then asked how the young women went before me then, since their appointments were after mine. I told him my appointment time as well as theirs, since I overheard. He said nothing about that. He then asked me if I wanted to leave and not wait. I replied, "Of course not. I have to do get this done." He then repeated that there were only two people in the office. So I calmly stated, "Okay well I didn't know that. Now I do. Great.", along with a thumbs up. Of course he said nothing or didn't apologize for his rude behavior. Maybe he needs additional training? I too work a customer oriented job and if he wants to avoid anyone asking "How long is the wait", which is a fair question to ask when I'm waiting 35 minutes after my appointment time, he simply could've told me when I checked in "There's a bit of a delay as there's only two people in today. But we will get to you as soon as possible". Is that hard? Clearly it is to him, but then he has the nerve to have a stick in his ass because I'm wondering why I haven't been seen in nearly 40 minutes. Yup 40 minutes after the hour is when I was able to finally get blood drawn. The nurse was nice. But dude at the front desk was absolutely rude and unprofessional. Beware, if you book a confirmed appointment, they change their hours without notifying their patients. You may show up for your appt and they will be unexpectedly closed without notifying you. I tried to make an appointment both online and via phone but both services were total train wrecks, so I opted for a walk-in. Easy check-in, pleasantly professional staff, totally pain-free blood draw, and I was in and out within fifteen minutes. I had a test at Quest 1260- 15th St., Santa Monica yesterday 8/18/2021. They had terrible disregard for patient safety and lack of standards. This is an unsafe place and I will never go there again. There were 3 different problems in only one visit: 1) Their door sign said only 5 people allowed in waiting room for social distancing, but when they messaged me to come in there were 7 people, not social distanced; I went back out until 2 people left, but when I went back in, there were still 7 people since 2 had come out from exam rooms. 2) While prepping for my blood draw and taking supplies out of her drawer the phlebotomist dropped a plastic tube holder on the floor, and instead of throwing it away, she picked it up and threw it back in the drawer it came from. When I said "That fell on the floor and you're throwing it in back in the drawer? She said, "Oh that's just the holder it's not a needle." Meanwhile her gloved hand had handled it but she did not change her gloves; and the dirty holder was back in her drawer with other supplies. 3) They claim masks are required but when I went out through the waiting room, there was a patient in the waiting room wearing only a loosely tied bandanna hanging completely open under her chin, and the bandanna was not even knotted or tied tightly behind her head. read more

Seriously screw this place. I just went there with my 21 month old daughter to get her blood drawn per my doctor's order. I went to this location after calling and being told that they do pediatric blood draws and that I could just walk-in which is what I did today. After an hour+ wait, and some disorganization in the office, we finally got in and I again confirmed with the nurse that she has experience doing pediatric blood draws to which she looked at me incredulously and said "we all do." Then she asked "where's her mother?" which I found profoundly chauvinistic and responded with a curt "why does it matter?" So she put the tourniquet on both arms and struggled to find a vein, then brought in the male nurse who allegedly is more experienced working with infants. After checking both arms he ended up poking her left arm and drew no blood. Then he asked me what I want to do...what is the answer to that question? I want to get my child's blood drawn without torturing her! They then suggested I try the Quest in Culver City which allegedly has more experience with infants. That was frustrating to hear considering I had been told the same thing about this location. I understand that drawing blood from infants is not easy, however that's what I tried to confirm before going in. I should mention that we had a failed attempt at another Quest when she was ~11 months...the hope was being another year older would net a different result. No such luck. But after a long wait, chaos, a rude reception, and ultimately no blood drawn, I would not go back. read more

The Quest lab tech was awful the day I had my draw done (9/14/17 @ my 8:45 am appt). Im telling all my doctors how bad it was there. Really weird. The lab tech was all alone and listening to loud rock music in he back room with a totally empty waiting room and nobody at the front desk, yet all appts seemed booked online. He later said his front desk guy was "out having his shots". So I arrived on time, to an open yet totally empty office. After I waited a while I got nervous and called out for someone numerous times and waited out front way too long, I got nervous bcz it was getting too close to 9am and my ordering MD had wanted my blood drawn between 8-9 am, and all the local Quests were booked till the following week for early am appts. So I was stuck with 8:45. But I came in at 8:30 just in case and nobody else was even in there waiting. After about 15 minutes, I finally had to go in the back to find someone and found the guy listening to the loud rock music so of course he could not hear me. I excused myself and introduced myself and let him know why I could not sit and wait any longer. He chastised me for not just coming in earlier than 8:30 without an appt. I explained that for years, Ive always had to make an appt online and knew that walking in could mean waiting endlessly. Plus I needed my blood drawn in a particular time frame. He delayed the draw as long as he could just doing anything he could to delay things. Made me pay first and we had just minutes left. With his back to me at the computer in another room I stood and nervously joked that pushing my draw so close to the cut off time might (hehe?) raise my cortisol levels (bcz its a stress hormone). He stiffly told me not to stress HIM. (!?) Finally he did it at 8:56 am. And bragged to me that he still had 4 min to spare. (!?!) :( I tried to be polite and calm, but he really deserved a good lambasting. Perhaps he will hear from his bosses if they read this and actually care about the Quest Diagnostics reputation in general, or least at that particular location. Later when I got my copy from the ordering doctors office I noticed the tech had lied TWICE on the report and said he drew my blood at 8:53 & said that I had been fasting. It was drawn at 8:56 (he bragged remember?) AND I did NOT fast, nobody told me to fast, AND he never even asked me if I fasted. I doubt it matters to my results, but found it very bad to have 2 lies on a blood test report. But Im not an expert, so I had to ask all my doctors to let me know if that negated my test result. read more

On 2 consecutive days we came in for Monthly bloodwork. The first day we were 10 minutes late after 55 minutes of waiting they told us they were closing the office. And told us to come back tomorrow. We were reluctant to do so we thought what the heck. We made an appointment for 340. We showed up 10 minutes early and we were informed her system was down and that they were not excepting any appointments and everyone in the waiting room had been waiting for over an hour. There is no management or boss staff on duty. No imagination no common sense applied and either setting. The calendar update should've been printed out before the computer system down there for verifying anyone who had the schedule appointment. Scheduled an appointment for my Dad at this location, got his Doctor to send the lab request. Had the confirmation code from Quest via confirmation email and everything, but he was denied at his appointment because they "didn't have the appointment in the system." Their online scheduling system does not work. They "strongly recommend" that you make an appointment online but when you do they "can't see it in the system" and refuse to view their own confirmation email with the appointment information. read more

Everyone that works there (I've dealt with four different lobotomist) act like it's their first day on the job. They don't know where their supplies are. They have to prick you four times and then ask for help. And twice (not once but twice) they "lost" the vile and I had to return and give blood again. I can't say anything positive about the place, I mean... it's clean, but the way some of the people at that place act towards costumers is not nice. They don't have a sense of compassion, we the visitors are confused and their negative responses are just not the way people should be treated. There was someone at the time that I went there, who did help me... but it was too late, I'd already had the first impression and that was way more of an impression than what this lady tried to do when I was already tired and frustrated for not getting the right information or direction on what I needed to do to get the service I needed. I hope it was an isolated incident, but the fact that some other lady was not happy the way they communicated with her, tells me otherwise. read more

I was a bit apprehensive to visit the Santa Monica location because of the extremely uneven reviews on Yelp, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I went in with no appointment (after having failed to use the extremely badly designed online booking system and the illogical voice menu system), and there was no line in the reception. I was met by a very nice lady, who took care of me right after I had finished signing in. She was very professional and friendly, and I hardly felt a thing. I would definitely recommend this to friends. Looking at some of the awful Yelp reviews, it seems like this location either has very different staff on duty at different times, or they have gotten rid of people who shouldn't have worked there (or in any public facing role) in the first place. read more

Logic does not prevail at this location. The order in which people were served was not based on appointment time or order of entry into the office. It seemed to be haphazard, with preference given to whoever the front desk deemed fit. I watched several folks with later appointments than me go first. Adding to things here, it seemed like Quest was particularly defensive in this location. They assumed I didn't have an appointment and just acted as if I didn't have an appointment. Currently, there's no one else in the office but me, and 3 people hanging out at the front desk.
