I've been waiting in the walk up line for about 4 hours now. There's barely enough seats in the lobby and way to many patients. Patients are coming in and waiting longer than their scheduled wait times. I feel forcing elderly people to use the tablet to check in feels discriminatory because not all elderly know how too, also assuming that all people know how to use technology or want too is not good ether. These older people come in looking for someone to talk too and get a cold screen waiting for hours. Thats probably why they got rid of the front desk, so nobody can complain about the wait times. This place drives me nuts. I show up early to my appointments and I still wait 30-60 minutes past my scheduled time before I'm called in. It's always overbooked and there's no seating in the lobby outside their office. You may as well sit in your car and watch a movie because you will need to wait a really long time past your scheduled appointment. They also don't really show courtesy by telling the people waiting that they can expect a delay. My mom got a short notice letter from her doctor saying she needed to do a test before surgery. Needed to call quest or visit online. She didn't know how to set appointment so she walked in to the Downey office and waited 5 hours. For them to tell her she wouldn't be seen. Quest staff at Downey didn't help her schedule a new appointment.. These people took an oath to help and her being a senior you can imagine how difficult it could be to set up an appointment and to check in. She said she seen an elderly man waiting as well and the staff was not helpful. Quest diagnostics in Downey needs to do better!!!!!! Question has made it very clear that it doesn't want to help people. All front office tasks have been automated, there is literally no way to speak to a person until you have made an appointment and waited to be called, which will be late. And don't even think of walking in, unless you have a few hours to waste away in an ugly and uncomfortable waiting room. I came to this location for the first time because they open at 5:30 am. I was the first one there. The young lady that opened and checked me in was super polite and friendly. I was in for some blood work. There were only 2 staff members. The lady that drew my blood though was a different story. I can tell she is not a morning person. I'm a very easy going person and takes a lot to get under my skin but she just rubbed me the wrong way. No customer service skills. She was rude. She was also rough and it did hurt most than other times. It's been a week and my arm is still bruised up. Im going to stay with the location on Brookshire. I've never had a bad experience there. With all the advances and technology supposed to be make it quick and easy, but it's always the human factor today I took my mom which is 86 years old................ this lady grid us lacking of human contact after she asked for my mom information she keep questioning about insurance if we have paperwork and also insurance card, which is unbelievable because it's supposed to be everything electronically my own mother, which is 86 struggling with sitting down on the chair to be ready to get the blood test then the employee asked if she can go get the urine sample. Wish she could ask for it before my 86 years old mother sit down on the chair well then my mother told her that she want to,use the right arm for the blood sample, but this lady which she was already on the left side. Tell her to bring her right arm to the left arm, which is ironic because my mother does not need to accommodate for her. This place is unorganized. You have everyone waiting in the waiting room or outside in the hallway with no intentions on where to go. And the lady's who work there are mean as hell. I had the misfortune of scheduling an appointment at this place on Friday 2 at 8:00AM, when I did the check-in process the system did not recognize the appointment. There was a young lady and I thought she could assist me but she didn't, all she said in a rude manner was that I could register for a standby appointment. I didn't have any choice so I did. I don't know how they work inside but I counted about one patient for every 30-40 minutes . There's nobody to talk and in my case I was taking my father-in-law' for a blood extraction and he is 102 years. Being about 11:30 and not having anything eaten yet I decided to leave. So if you work, live, or have a doctor in the Downey area, then you have probably been told to get your blood drawn at either one of two Quest Diagnostic Lab locations in the 90241. I have been to the lab over by the hospital quite a few times. It's not that it's a bad place to go as long as you have an appointment scheduled (highly recommend that for any Quest visit), but that they are just so overwhelmingly crowded every time I go there. And I've been there even on weekends and at various times. Always super busy. They seem to be much faster at entering information into the system, but this does not bother me because I will wait if it means getting my health information done right the first time and not having to be pricked more than I already have to every year. That being said, I have never ever had any issues with any Quest lab or the phlebotomists' work. So it's always SUPER busy at the Quest by the Downey hospital. No where to sit. Kids crying and wallowing on the floor. Twenty or thirty-something-old dudes waiting in line that try to cut in front of elderly people and everyone else patiently standing. This hasn't been the case in the 4 times that I've been to the Paramount location. Of course, I made an appointment each time. You should as well. The office is easiest to access from the back entrance. There is a parking lot back there anyway. To access that parking lot, try entering from Paramount through the parking garage (I never have luck finding a spot there) or use 5th St from Paramount Blvd. When you go through the back entrance of the building, the Quest lab is on the first floor to the right. You'll see the glass door. The other day I had to do a one-hour glucose test. To spare the time because they wouldn't even let me leave to drop off some mail at the post office, I brought a book. A phlebotomist showed me the smaller waiting area in the back. It was a little less distracting, however, you could hear all the conversations of people before they were stuck with a needle. When I found out that the only way they could take blood from our then 9-month-old was through her arm (!!!) for required blood work, I was devastated. She was too old for the heel prick. Anyway, I am not sure of her name, but a very nice bilingual (Eng/Span) phlebotomist showed me how to hold our baby for the blood work. She made it so easy. It also helped that they used a butterfly needle which is much smaller than the ones they use on adults. Of course, our baby girl still cried, but not at all like I thought she was going to. Thank you, ma'am, whoever you are! FYI - I think this office breaks everyday for lunch at 12:30 PM until maybe 1:30 (??). I am not sure if that's a set schedule and forgot to ask because I always... MAKE AN APPOINTMENT ONLINE. And... don't ever try to call Quest because no human will ever take your call - at least not when I tried to ask questions about our baby. The phone system is automatic, but you can make appointments there too. Bring your lab sheet, insurance card, and relax. Don't forget to fast if it's required. I recommend the Quest app on iPhone to get your results if you want them. Quest initiated this recently. Arrived at this place to have my blood drawn, Eliana, the receptionist has no Customer Service what's so ever. Her whole attitude really sucked. No greet, spoke in Spanish to me, please don't assume that everyone speaks Spanish, I told her I don't speak Spanish, she said just say sign in on the touch pad and someone will be with you. She spoke again to me in Spanish SMH. Everything about this woman was horrible in her attitude. I know it's hard to like your job but you should be happy that you have one and be happy at it even if you're not happy. One star because they were quick I guess but i went to use the bathroom and it was extremely unsanitary , especially with the virus going on, you would think they would keep things clean and sanitized , however there was no toilet paper, the toilet looked like it hadn't been cleaned for months, blood in the floor , pee rings (from the urine cups) left on the sink and little stand, and also the trash was almost overfilled . HIGH ALERT!!! Appointment needed in order to be seen. NO WALK-INS ACCEPTED!! Quest might be up to date with technology, but a they forgot all the elders & computer illiterate people. When you walk in to Quest there are no employees present. There is only 2 "WELCOME CHECK IN HERE" kiosk. Elders & computer illiterate customers have an awful hard time checking in. I felt so bad for everyone trying to check in. It's sad to see confused people & no one there to guide them. If Quest decided to update their system, they need to update their customer service!!! Someone from Quest NEEDS to be present greeting customers & assisting with check-ins!! And what's the point of having an appointment when they still have you wait over 30 minutes. 1.5 stars for this Quest Diagnostics Lab!! As my friend would say, What the heck!! Our experience here was unlike most of the other reviews. We took my mother n'law here for her blood draw. Guess, we were just lucky because there was no long wait. After completing the paperwork, she was called in right away. The phlebotomist did an excellent job. She got the vein in one try. No fishing around. My mom n'law was very pleased. Needless to say, we would return if needed. Maybe our experience is very rare, but we'll take it!! read more

Normally this location is the best! Just a Heads up. This is the only location around here that is taking walk-ins. The other quests are doing covid testing , hence appt only at those locations. Here, Three appointments in and then one walk in.The poor girl handling the crowd was overwhelmed. She started to move on to an 830 appointment and I told her I had an 815 and told her. She had me go in and check in. So organizational skills need to be more on point. Plus maybe a security guard because the business upstairs was upset at the crowd even though everyone for the most part was doing a great job of staying 6 ft apart. read more

I wish I would've came on here and looked at the reviews before I came here Cathy is so RUDE. Do not let your parents or an elderly in your family come by themselves because she will not help them on the check-in pad. Most elderly people do not know how to use new technology so after watching someone struggle I asked if they wanted my help but Cathy got mad and she told me not to help yet she didn't help either so the person continued to struggle for a very long time. Unfortunately it didn't just happen to one person, it continued to happen to everyone that didn't know how to use the pad. She clearly didn't like me trying to help and she purposely skipped me by keeping my "order" on her desk and letting five people in before me, even with my appointment. I wish I would have recorded her rudeness but I was honestly in disbelief. I will try another location and I suggest anyone with elders in the family does too. Why bother scheduling appointment if they don't take you at the time you're scheduled to be seen. They take too long to call you in. I had to wait close to 1 hr after my scheduled time. Ridiculous!! This isn't my favorite Quest Lab but it's conveniently located around the corner from me. It's always extremely overcrowded, and I'm not exaggerating when I say extremely overcrowded! Front desk staff is not too friendly and I came to the conclusion that its because they are overwhelmed with work! They really work hard to get the schedule of appointments and numerous walk-ins that they get on a daily basis out as quickly as possible. If you walk in be prepared to wait a long time, and don't be rude to the staff that is only working as fast as humanly possible. I strongly recommend that you schedule an appointment, to save some time and grief!
