Agree about the front desk horrible service. It's Monday 2 pm and they're both gossiping ignoring every patient questions. My mother is 75 she had a question that really pissed them off which was where do I sign in. Obviously they hate the job they're getting paid for. Now the nurse and head nurse that helped my mom were pleasant with my mom. For them 5 stars. Obviously they have a career which they love the other ones just have a job and go to get paid. read more

Avoid seeing Dr Wallace!!! Whether you're the patient or it's your loved one be very careful with being cared for by this Doctor! Get Second Opinions She DID NOT provide Compassion Care or Hope for our mother! My mother had not even had a needle biopsy with pathology done yet and she diagnosed her with full blown cancer! We had to insist on all possible care requested to be done because Dr Wallace basically wanted to put my mom in hospice care! Said our mom was too weak for any treatment or surgery Thankfully with all our efforts and non stop calls to the insurance company for authorizations and making sure the office requested all needed tests and procedures along with proper documentation! We finally found outside providers that actually cared and provided my mom with assistance with having surgery She had surgery after 5 admissions to PIH that also was useless!!! We had to go outside of Downey period! Here we are 4 months later our mom has beat cancer and is in recovery doing really good no thanks to Dr Wallace! Our mom is now seeing another colleague here who has compassion and seems to care! Dr Wallace caused a lot of unnecessary heartaches and despair to our family with her misdiagnosis without having proper results. read more

Unfortunately yelp doesn't allow me to give no stars. This place is the worst health care facility. I don't Especially their office/authorization staff specifically Kimberly. They don't have empathy for the patient. They keep giving me a round around. I just wanted to get my medication so I will get and feel better. They make you feel that you don't matter. Even when my health insurance representative spoke with Kimberly and informed her that my medication have been approved. Kimberly said yes, she saw it and it will be ordered to the pharmacy. I followed up the next day and it's back to pending approval. It's been 3 weeks since trying to get my treatment and still waiting and feeling weak and frustrated. Kimberly doesn't want to talk to me, don't want to listen. Rushing the conversation and even hung up the phone on me. No compassion at all. Rude and unprofessional. read more

Orginally was told I had 6 months to live back in December 2020. This past December, I had gotten results from my MRI and PET that my cancer had returned. My orginal doctor called and told me that I needed to do chemo and that the prognosis wasn't good. This doctor also informed me that her contact was up and that I would had a new doctor. My new doctor told me that I had 6 months to live and that I should "make end of life arrangements". He made the recommendation that I seek out other institutions for clinical trials to hope "extended my life." He told me that even with treatment I probably only had a year. Now, imagine the emotional breakdown one would have after receiving that kind of news. I know it's not their job but it would have been nice for them to offer counseling with that kind of news. I just got a "sorry we can't do more for you." and "good luck." I'm now being treated at City of hope. I'm not dying. My new prognosis is the exact opposite from the original. This is NOT a reflection of the office employees, nurses, and other staff. They were always amazing with me. Don't blame them for things going wrong. They are extremely understaffed with limited means. Some things were completely out of their control. It's not their fault that their corporate office is crap. read more

My mother had the displeasure of being "greeted" by Kimberley, the most unprofessional and uneducated healthcare worker we've ever encountered. She was uncooperative and inconsiderate the entire time we spent there and even had the audacity to roll her eyes while we signed in. Same basic problem that everyone going back to 2014 had...RUDE AND INCOMPETENT FRONT DESK.. RECEPTIONIST WAS A COMPLETE MORON AND UNCARING AND ARGUMENTATIVE.. I had my 2nd MRI scan, after 4 immunotherapy treatments on August 27th and still have not heard the results!!! I'm in. Stage 4 metastatic melanoma that has gone to my bones, and I don't even know if the treatments are working?? And I'm scheduled for another treatment on 9/30/2022 but won't get to talk to my Dr, Dr Christine CASTILLON until 9/20??? Last time we spoke she said she didn't want to keep me on this treatment if it wasn't working?? So why do I have to wait almost a MONTH NEFORE I KNOW THE RESULTS?? This Clinic us the worst of the worst your medical results or referrals as a matter of fact anything that's has to do with your and this clinic is never logged in never followed up never on time for scheduled appointments the lack of communication in this office with staff regarding patients is horrific the only communication they are strong on is their personal lives sit in their office one day and see the worst display of medical professionalism. I was seen Friday printer was down i was told that I would be mailed the medical referrals and mammogram referral well to no surprise I schedule a mam and go to appointment and this clinical staff /s did not place the order as usual so as I sat their 20 min I call them personally and get told please hold I explained to them I could not hold it was quite urgent to speak to someone being I was at appointment set already what did she do put me on hold I hung up called right back another employee answered I explained to her the urgency to get this resolved because I had the last appointment if late I would not be seen so she asked for my info said it was sent to radiology yet I am sitting with A woman whom works for the registration part of hospital where i was scheduled and she verified again they had not submitted it I told the oncology clinic staff that no it was not after going back and forth I told submitted now she asked for fax number then surprise she actually did her job task that day which should of been carried out Friday not Monday. I'm glad that other people are getting good care, as for my dad - it seems that they are hoping that he dies. Between the insurance, the imaging facility and the OI headquarters - who never answer the phone - seems they enjoy playing tennis back and forth with innacutatre authorisations, re-requests for authorisations, post-authorisation agreements from the insurance and the requesting Dr.'s post authorisation agreement. They want to make sure they get paid, understandable - meanwhile my dad is slowly dying - This Friday we were supposed to have a telephone appointmernt to see if the imaging b.s. had been squared away, I called at the appt time and the person I spoke with put me on hold and then I was disconnected. I called back and the person that answered told me that the person I was speaking to had to help - god if I care, but just disconnect me was the way to deal with me? and the 2nd person that answered told me they would call me back, of course they never did. TBH The Oncology INSTITUTE IS A JOKE, however they are dealing with real people and real situations, no one deserves this level of coldness. read more

This staff at this office is very unprofessional, violated HIPAA law by mailing documents from a different patient. They don't know what they're doing because they blame each other when patients talk to several staff members about a concern, they throw away original medical documents instead of returning the documents back to the patient. The manager can sometimes be very nice because she knows when her staff make mistakes but once the mistake has kind of been resolved she doesn't care and is very rude. They canceled medical service without any advance notification,, who does that? If it wasn't for the patients, they will not have a job. The manager and staff should receive constant trainings on HIPPA LAW, ETHICS , BUSINESS SKILLS, Front Desk talk negatively about other patients, they scheduled so many patients that can not concentrate enough to provide quality service , they talk about their personal problems instead of providing quality service, give WRONG DIAGNOSIS, communication issues among providers, I do understand where human beings, and make mistakes, but mistake after mistake, violating patient's privacy. Adhere to legal obligations, maintain privacy. I DON'T RECOMMEND PATIENTS GO TO ANY OF THEIR DOWNEY , WHITTIER LOCATIONS . Liz is the best! She has always been able to help me, no matter what the problem is. Even when other staff has given us the runaround and not called us back after leaving several messages. The rest of the staff need to be reminded that they work in an office for people who have cancer and the loved ones that take care of them. Sometimes the patient/customer, is upset, maybe they have left messages that nobody has called them back on or they are just having a hard time with their diagnosis. The other girls are sometimes short with the people on the phones who have been waiting on hold for a while or they complain about the people on the line. read more

First off I gave em 1 star because I cant continue without a star. My true rating: zero stars! After hundreds of tests with no diagnosis to give, dr. Wali gave my dad medication that hurt him more than helped him. Everytime i called the office i was on hold at least for an hour. Terrible service. While sitting in the wait room, i can hear the receptionists gossip all day, very unprofessional. Terrible service! We switched over to another provider instantly and was given a diagnosis that same day and my father was given treatment immediately. That switch saved my father's life! read more

This is a receptionist review only: First off checking in there are at least 8-10 people behind the counter when checking in and not one of them lifts their eyes to acknowledge you or pay attention to you. You come in and sign your name on the clip-baord and take a seat. As a nursing student it is disappointing beyond belief their attention and care especially when in the office of Oncology and what patients you typically see on a daily basis. It was the first time here and the last time. I had taken my mother-in- law to the appt and we checked in 20 minutes early and waited for the time of her appointment at 1:30pm. When it turned into 15 minutes late after her scheduled appointment, I went to the receptionist desk and asked the status on my mother-in-laws appointment and asked the girl to confirm that the she was signed in. She had me repeat the name twice which I didn't mind and when I was speaking with her not once did she even look at me to acknowledge or give me the curiosity that I was there, she then rolled her eyes at me. I then asked her, her name and she said "Kathy". She is rude and should be evaluated. I was beyond appalled that she was doing this to me and honestly with her attitude I wont be surprised she was doing this to other patients. This is no way to treat patients at that facility. As a receptionist your priority should be checking in patients and being the first face you see when you enter the office and to see this staff it's disappointing. Kathy working as a receptionist and representing Downey PIH, it is no surprise that Downey PIH has such poor reviews and is struggling for better healthcare and scores. For this receptionist to be working at Downey PIH, it is giving a bad representation of what you want your establishment to be. Managers in this particular facility and office should be aware of this. I plan on taking this with Downey PIH corporate office and HR to get this looked at. Your dealing with patients and healthcare and customer service, this is unacceptable care even as a check-in receptionist. Their staffers are inept and care nothing about the patients; my doctor ordered two MRIs for me on Oct. 17, and it's now Dec. 3 and they still HAVENT EVENT SUBMITTED THE REQUEST to my insurance company. I've wasted so much time calling their authorization department and getting the runaround; luckily I'm not dead yet, but if you have cancer it's likely that you can die before you're treated because of their ineptitude. read more

This review is for a complaint towards the front desk receptionist named Yasmine. I told Yasmine that Dr. Peng had prescribed my mother medication for her nausea and asked if she happened to have it ready for her. She responded with "I'm busy right now, I can't help you." I believe that is not the proper way to speak to patients nor caregivers in general. Very unprofessional, as far as I am aware it is the job of the receptionist to provide patients with next appointments/follow ups and prescriptions. Girls just a REMINDER: cancer patients are constantly faced with multitude of issues and major concerns while trying to cope with the illness. Please be kind. I was recently diagnosed with a blood disorder. My experience at The Oncology Institute of Hope and Innovation has been wonderful. The nursing staff is wonderful and extremely compassionate overall. Front office is very friendly. My wait to see my doctor was speedy. I meet with my doctor and discussed the treatment plan available to better my health. My Doctor was very resourceful and his treatment plan since has been a success in my life. I highly recommend The Oncology Institute of Hope and Innovation to all. read more

I've called the corporate office several times and I'm put on hold, and routed to voicemail, and voicemails and emails are not returned. Sad they deal with cancer. This review is for the customer service provided - when calling the office the girls answering the phones are rude and talk to each other while on the phone, when you ask questions they know nothing and have such horrible attitudes. The doctor my father saw was amazing but should consider retraining your staff on how to talk to people/patients over the phone and in person. read more

I gave 2 stars simply because quite a few of the office personnel in the corporate office authorization department, are not very nice , not very professional and are rude. One office person that stands out is Alice who was very argumentative, defensive who made promises to call back about important updates and vital information to a procedure that was taking too long to be approved and she does not, which makes a patient feel as though she makes promises to shut one up. It appears that they are disorganized , do not communicate internally, give you the runaround and provide different information which creates confusion. For some reason, it takes months to approve a simple procedure and communication to patient is very poor. Additionally, calls are not returned after numerous VM messages. Clearly the staff need re-education/training on basic costumer service 101, phone etiquette etc.... Unfortunately, compassion and empathy cannot be taught , it can only be learned. Other than that, the Specialists/MDs make up for the the office staff's shortcomings. The oncologist is amazing and is very patient and gentle. Does not rush and explains diagnoses and treatments clearly to a manner that one understands. His office staff are always courteous and polite and get things done timely. read more

This place is packed to the gills. The patients coming into the office and sit and wait, but no one enters the doctor's office. Meanwhile you check in for your 3 pm appointment and 45 minutes later they have yet to verify your health insurance. How inconvenient and sad to have so many ill wait so long. This review is based on my one time visit only. It could have been a great experience but here is why it was not. My appointment was on a Thursday afternoon, I walked in and out of the 6 staff members not one asked if I had an appointment or greeted. Once I signed in I mentioned to the receptionist that I had all the paper work that was online. Handed the paper work and was called in right away. Dr asked and answered my questions. I waited patiently for my follow up appointment and that's where it went wrong. THE LAB LOCATIONS were for a lab that was NOT covered by my insurance. The staff that is handing off this information to patients should be more considerate of how it can affect a patients experience. My Saturday morning was wasted it was really frustrating trying to figure out why the office staff handed incorrect information. I could not get in contact with the office because it is the weekend, I have to wait for Monday. Called Monday afternoon asked to speak with a staff member that deals with patient experience, the person that I was spoke with said that my information will be given to her via email I asked her to please include the Office Manager. Tuesday I finally go to the lab, but now orders need to get faxed over because the orders they handed on my initial visit was for the WRONG LAB. It is now Wednesday, yet no attempt to reach me has been made. I hope other patients don't have to go through what I had deal with these past few days. read more

The experience here this year was a lot better than last year. I only had to wait about 30 minutes to wait to get my blood work performed. Which is great compared to the 2 hours late year. And I love Dr Navarro she's personable and doesn't rush you out of the room. She makes sure to answer any questions or concerns before you go. She explains things and cares for her patients. The front staff's attentiveness seemed to be improved from last year too. I waited a short time to see the doctor to get my test results too. I was a bit scared to go into the office, I'm sure everyone is, but as soon as I walked in Claudia was there to help me navigate the situation. I went in on a Sat morning around 11am. I waited less than 10 min to be seen. I was able to print up all of my first time patient papers at home. Saved a lot of time and frustration if being a new patient in an oncology office. Lol. I saw dr. Wali. She is amazing. She is very knowledgeable and made me feel like I was her only patient. Gave me 100% of her attention and asked me a ton of questions before she made any kind of diagnosis or treatment request. That is a huge plus! She wanted to read All my med records before she made any decisions about treatment. She won't throw pills at the problem. She does her homework on you. So please, don't get frustrated when she orders a lot of blood tests and asks you to come back. That's a good thing. She's not going to order any invasive tests until all other things have been exhausted. read more

My Grandma is a patient of Dr. Vatanparast and she is the sweetest Dr. She is so caring and compassionate with her. The off ice employees and nurses are all so sweet as well. When we walk in they greet my grandmother by her name with a huge smile. This is exactly how all medical offices should be, the way they treat their patients is very touching. They just moved to a new office space which is so much bigger, the office is very clean. This practice also host fundraiser, which are for a great cause, they are so much fun. My kids look forward to the 5k they host:) read more

I usually don't write reviews by I owe my mothers life to The Oncology Institute. We were all so scared when my mother was first diagnosed with cancer. We felt hopeless. We didn't know what was going to happen. Dr. Rupani at the Oncology Institute was amazing. He was patient and compassionate. He listened to our fears and mad us feel at ease. During the next several months, my mother received chemotherapy. The nursing staff took wonderful care of her. They made the process much easier. Today my mother is in remission. We are so thankful for Dr. Rupani and his staff. We are forever indebted to them. read more

It took me a while to find an oncologist that I was satisfied with, and at the Oncology Institute I have found an entire team of oncologists! When I began my chemo, the nurse treated me as if I were a leper, her demeanor and facial expressions made me very uncomfortable. When the Dr. ordered a ct scan for me, it took ME a month to get this scan authorized, making many phone calls, leaving many messages, and getting attitudes from staff as if they were too busy to help me, then someone said the authorization went thru, but NOBODY let me know, I had to call myself, then whoever had supposedly "taken care of" the problem sent in an EXPIRED authorization, the appt I made had to be cancelled, so I never got the authorization OR the scan, which caused me to have to reschedule my DR.s appt. The staff treats you as if you are an inconvience to them the minute you walk in the door. I am very disappointed with this place!! Its bad enough I have CANCER, to be treated badly, and receive incompetent service at a place which claims such compassion, and competentcy for cancer patients is LUDICRIS!! read more

I go to the office in Glendale and see Dr. Stephen Huang. I truly believe that the reason I did so well with treatment is because of HOW he treated me: like he cared, like I mattered, like it was all going to be OK. The first question he asked was "what do you understand do far about your diagnosis?" He let me talk and then corrected, gently, a couple of things that I did not completely understand. He spent nearly an hour in that first meeting so that I had a full understanding of my diagnosis and treatment. When my dad had further questions Dr. Huang patiently took another meeting to explain things to him. Dr. Huange is hopeful, patient and kind. The entire staff is wonderful, especially Edwin, one of the nurses who I look forward to seeing with every appointment. I had a second opinion at USC at their fancy cancer center and the doctor was a total jerk who made me cry. That second opinion was the only negative in my entire cancer experience. read more
