Came here for a Brazilian after my regular esthetician wasn't available. I wish I would've waited. I have been waxing for almost a decade and have never experienced anything like this. Two days after the appointment my hair started growing back very coarse and painful. My skin has been breaking and I have so many ingrown It is ridiculous. I came here for a wax that I don't usually get. This is fairly close to where I live, so I have almost no excuse! The atmosphere was calm and professional, the aesthetician Ariel/Azriel was young but skilled and knowledgeable! The smell of the wax was pleasant, I never think of cherry/chocolate when waxing; but this was a nice fragrance from the usually sticky wax smell. I think the hard wax is better for me, but either is fine, and the pain was minimal. I was not happy with having to pay half for the services at the time of booking. A number of South Side businesses have resorted to 'deposits', which is why the 4 star is really a 3.5 Star rating. They tried this downtown some years back, it did NOT work! The odd part is that the deposit is just 'on file' permanently! Once the services are completed and you reschedule, the half portion you paid for remains on file, and you pay the 'full' portion when you come in. I did not reschedule, so I only had to pay for half of my service after it was complete. If this was a hair salon, where women go faithfully every 2 weeks or so I can see this being a thing, but 4-6 weeks between services seems like a lot of accounting maintenance. read more

I typically get my eyebrows waxed, and while the appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes, my appointments have been completed in about 20. It doesn't feel rushed, and they do a great, through job. Obviously I was inconvenienced each time, but there was no recourse done by Queen Noir besides an apology. Queen Noir is located in Bronzeville and centrally located on 47th and one block off of Cottage Grove with street parking available. On my first visit, I was serviced by Ray and she was amazing. Since this was my first time there she explained to me the type of waxes used at the salon, why, and also the process in which she was going to wax me. I was also serviced by Nicky and she's great as well! They keep the convos flowing to keep your mind off of the waxing. They use chocolate and cherry wax along with strips, which is painless compared to hard wax, in my opinion. The entire salon smells like chocolate and there's always soft R&B music playing. What I loved is that the estheticians took her time to clean me up. I've been to so many salons that would leave pieces of wax on my skin here and there leaving me to remove it or it getting stuck to my clothes. The prices are also better compared to other salons in the city. I hope they offer memberships soon. read more

Ahhhh yes...I decided to once again, begin waxing my delicate lady parts. I used to do it years ago at Trim, when I lived in Humboldt Park. However, when I moved south I didn't feel like finding a new person so I broke out the trusty Venus. Yeah, she cool and errythang, but the daily upkeep and prickly, porcupine aftermath was just annoying. So I began my search. After googling Black-owned waxing salons, my search turned up Queen Noir. Location perfect and reviews even better, so I signed up. Was I nervous when I walked in? Yep. Did I have flashbacks to the time my delicate lady parts got scorched from an overly-aggressive waxer? Hellz yeah! But I put my big girl panties on, pimped into the waxing room, hopped on the table and "butterflied". My memories of being waxed in the past overtook me, so with each snatch of the cloth, I braced for the worst...but in all actuality, it really wasn't that bad. With that said, 2 of the 3 times I've gone I haven't been able to get all the services I booked AND paid a deposit for. No apology, no accountability for the inconvenience, just "you can't get that today because..." I wanted to love this place. It's located near my house, blacked owned and I've heard amazing things. I usually get my wax done in the West Loop, but wanted to find a place closer to home since I started working from home. I love the ability book online and decor. My biggest issue with the salon is they don't start on time. I've went two times and had to wait over 30 minutes each time. I'm use to getting service during my scheduled time. I have stuff to do. Also, the waxing process takes so long the one lady took about 45 minutes to an hour. Lastly, I don't like that they don't give you a towel to put over your stomach. Yesterday was my second visit with Skye. Absolutely AMAZING!!! I found her on Instagram and wish I would've found her years ago! To start, Skye is extremely professional and courteous, and her prices are reasonable. She puts you at ease and makes you feel comfortable. She's currently working in a temporary space but it's still very clean, convenient (Hyde Park), and parking availability is decent. She uses a chocolate wax which makes the process WAY less painful. Her work is very thorough and I did not have to do any clean up work at home. *TMI* But, even my husband mentioned how great of a job she does. Lol! I appreciate that she takes her time but still finishes in a timely manner. I've told and referred all of my family and friends. I am a Groupon person and I had done Brazilian waxes services in a lot of places around Chicago. However, after my Groupon at Skye Rose I have stopped searching for something better, because it was just a phenomenal service. My previous experiences were so painful and I was sure that how it is suppose to be, but after visiting Skye I realized how wrong I was. I have been seeing Skye for a year now for Brazilian waxes and she is amazing! Very nice and professional--definitely makes the experience comfortable. The manager spoke very unprofessionally over the phone. I didn't care to get her name seeing how distasteful she was being. Not even seeking to understand my reasoning behind why I needed to cancel & reschedule my appointment; she instead took to their website to try to confirm the window allowed in order to cancel my appointment. With that being said, I was under the impression that as long as it was done within a day, I should be fine. However, she was adamant that it had to be within a 24 hour window & since it was not, if I had any desire to further do business with them; first, I would've had to pay this $25 cancellation fee. I'm actually quite disappointed in this "business owner" & I hope that one day she'd be more empathetic & accommodating to her consumers. read more

I went In today for my first appt. to get a Brazilian and I have to say, I was more than impressed!!! Sky was Great!!! The whole experience was wonderful... The room was clean and had a nice smell (she uses chocolate wax). She was super sanitary!!! Each stick was used only once and then dumped :). I was so comfortable and we had good conversation. This 5 star review is the real deal. Skye Rose knows what she's doing. I'm definitely not a first timer, and I have been to some of the other "5 star" rated brazilian wax spots in Chicago and the suburban areas, and they do not compare to Skye. There's always something missing from those places. I either walk away with a great wax and get a ton of ingrown hairs later, or the customer service was just not up to par. Skye is not lacking in any area and I'm so happy I finally found a place where I can become a loyal customer. I would definitely recommend Skye for first timers and seasoned waxers. She educates you, makes you feel comfortable, and gets you out in a timely manner. I will say there were a couple stray hairs left as Skye does not tweeze, but honestly unless you're a porn star or someone is gonna be putting a magnifying glass on your privates, you are good to go. The pain is pretty nonexistent but if it's your first time you may experience some stinging. As other reviewers mentioned Skye uses chocolate wax and whatever is in that stuff minimizes the effects of pain. Skye has such an awesome personality. You can tell she really cares about her customers' happiness. She isn't just trying to hurry up and finish you so she can move on to the next customer. She has a calming spirit and it really makes you feel more comfortable. So yeah, go to this lady if you want your wax done right. You won't be disappointed! read more

I have been a client of Skye for approximately four years! She is the most professional and efficient esthetician I have ever been to. Her personality is so vibrant; she puts you at ease for a service that can be intimidating to most. Skye is extremely knowledgeable so if you're feeling timid or uncomfortable, ask away and she will surely answer any questions you may have. As an African-American woman, we can sometimes suffer from ingrown hairs but I am happy to say that the chocolate wax she uses is phenomenal and really works well with my skin.
