So disappointed! My manicure was Saturday and now it is Tuesday and my nails are chipped and unprofessional. Terrible quality, they don't even paint the full side of your nailbed. While the lady was nice and the facility was clean, I will not be going back for a manicure any time soon. To not even last 4 days (Saturday late afternoon to Tuesday morning) is absolutely absurd. I have not done any extraneous activities with my hands that would have caused chipping to this degree. They don't even paint all the way to the edge of the nail and among walking out I realized the tip of the nail wasn't fully coated as well as the sides of my nails were barren of color. If you're in this business, quality and attention to detail are key. So disappointed about the lack of quality. What a shame because it's an ideal location. Manicure and pedicure cost $40 with tip (they do not ask or provide change if you give cash -- and what happened to cash discount that other reviewers mentioned, because I did not get one). read more

Pros: open later in the evening, central location, cash discounts Cons: some of the technicians don't speak english very well which isn't a problem unless you and the technician can't understand each other (e.g. when trying to pick out a color, or explaining a tip shape you'd like). To upgrade the mani-pedi to gel-mani was $10 which is a great option especially since they charge $5 to just remove existing gel polish. I got my first gel manicure here, and I may be hooked on the concept. My friend had Lina as her technician, who was fun to talk to and also definitely took more time and was more meticulous about her work. My initial experience at this salon was great. $32 cash special for dip powder is apparently too good to be true. The tech was very friendly, she started working, removing my previous dip by having me soak my hands in acetone. I've never done it this way, always foil wraps. She showed me the sample options, I chose a light pink stating I didn't want anything sheer or overly pink. Once she started on my nails it started to go down hill. She buffed my cuticles off, and caused me to bleed in multiple areas. The powder color did not come out nicely, but she told me it was a "very nice color." I told her I didn't like it, but she told me it was good and she couldn't change it. I went back the next day to see if they could just do gel polish on top, she refused and yelled "OH MY GOSH" and walked away. Queen Nails is super clean and a bright, open nail salon. Everything from the way it is laid out to the way it smells is inviting to customers in a hurry or looking to take their time and relax. The variety of polish available is pretty great and I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes without an appointment (although I usually make an appointment). The nail techs are not the friendliest but they do a decent job. Most of my manicures from Queen Nails have lasted 6- 7 days without significant chipping which is pretty average. In recent months I moved into the neighborhood close to this salon but didn't know this was around. I realized yesterday that I was leaving for a girls wknd trip today and my nails were in bad shape. Due to getting out of work on the later side, I did a yelp search for places in Center City vicinity that would stay open until 8pm and this showed up. It did not disappoint. I showed up around 6:45pm. I asked for a gel mani and regular pedi. The ladies were extremely friendly (we actually had a nice chat. I should be rating this place a 1 star so that no one else discovers it, but I give this information freely to you yelpers... this place's main ingredient is awesome. 1. Clean - always looks top notch and I've seen them scrub out the pedicure stations after every use. 2. Nail shaping - For years, I bit my nails and now that I broke the habit, I SUPER particular about how my nails look. This place is awesome at making sure my squ-oval shaped nails are perfect each time. 3. They use top notch lotions! I think they are from Bath and Body Works. I love the Grapefruit scent and if you like a particular one, they will use it for you. 4. Always a decent eyebrow wax. My biggest tip is to go Saturday morning before Noon. I got my eyebrows waxed here yesterday. I told the woman I just needed them cleaned up a little, I don't like them too thin, just shaped. I usually get my eyebrows threaded but since I'm new to the neighborhood I decided to try something nearby. Anyway, it's the night after and my entire T-zone is broken out from whatever they used. I am giving two stars because I explained to the woman how I wanted my eyebrows to look, and she repeated the instructions to let me know she understood, and entirely messed them up. My right brow is way way too thin, and uneven in comparison to the thicker left brow. She drew in the thinner brow when I told her it was way to thin, but once I washed my face I really saw the damage. The irritation makes it worse and although that part is not her fault, I wouldn't be so bugged about it if my eyebrows weren't uneven. They'll take forever to grow back. Then they overcharged me after messing up. I get them threaded well for $5 in New York. Oh, and the arch I'd been slowly working on is completely gone. She stole my arch. I went to Queen after being recommended by two friends. It was my first gel manicure experience and I was hopeful and cautiously optimistic. The place is teeny-tiny so it's easy to see why it could get crowded very quickly. The people were nice and were SUPER friendly to the women who were regulars. I wasn't thrilled at having to pick a gel nail polish by looking at a laminated piece of paper...who can tell what will look good or not? They were nice and started painting different colors on my nails to help me figure it out (when, oh WHEN, will there be more gel polish options?!?! Not Queen's fault but still...oy). They were so detail-oriented, and took the time to double check their work and go over anything that might need correcting...without being prompted by yours truly. I was really impressed. Perhaps it's because I was there at a random time and there wasn't a line out the door, but that type of attentiveness is rare at a nail salon. However, after the last experience I had here I feel as though all of the ladies in Philadelphia should know about this place. Two weeks ago, I went in for a gel mani with only 45 mins to spare. I asked if there would be some freak way I could get a pedi too. Turns out these people are the nail gods and made it work. In 45 minutes, my gels were soaked, replaced, and beautiful, as well as my feet. Now I'm not saying go in and ask for this because it was rude of me. Now THAT is a price I like to hear! My nail tech was great. She took extra special care of shaping, clippling and filing. I love that they use Bath and Body Works lotion for the massage as well. Today I was graced with Sea Island Cotton! I have found a home for my every 3 week habit. The inside is warm, cozy and appropriately set up. I called just before coming over to make sure they had availability. My usual salon's person was away on bereavement leave and I really wanted my legs waxed. They didn't ask me if I wanted my feet and toes done and I forgot to ask - yes, the hairy German gene didn't miss me. I didn't ask for brow waxing but if they suggested it I probably would have said yes as this is something I generally do when managing to get to the salon. I got a pedicure and they did that first even though I asked for everything up front. They even painted my toes before waxing so that moving around without damaging the polish was challenging. They also did not put a top coat on my toes. The staff was pleasant, I was just underwhelmed with the service. I'm glad my regular person is back at my regular nail and waxing spot. I was really impressed with my first visit to Queen Nail and Spa (especially coming from the Pittsburgh area). Where do I even begin? This nails salon is in a really quiet part of town which I think sets the stage for the kind of experience you'll have when you get there. When I entered, I noticed they were well staffed, had a great selection of colors, and the air smelled fresh (rather than like bottles of acetone). I came for a mani-pedi with a friend for which they had a special ($2 off the total price + a $5 gift certificate for your next visit). The woman who gave our manicures chose a spot where we could sit next to each other and enjoy each other's company. She did both mine and my friends hand massage and manicure (without polish) which was nice and didn't really feel rushed, giving us the time to catch up. When it came to the pedicure, I was blown away. At the time of the pedicure, we were shown to our seats and again were able to sit next to one another. While we were each getting our feet rubbed and callouses scrubbed, another lady came over to paint my nails, so essentially I was getting a manicure and pedicure at the same exact time. Way to feel pampered! Not to mention that the lady who did my pedicure did a bang up job. I have this really pesky callous and she showed it who was boss. I also thought I had something weird on my toe which I pointed out to her and she was willing to repaint it after we discovered that I simply just had a weird toe. This is the first experience that I've had at a nail salon where I really didn't feel like I was "just another customer" with a rushed job. Queen Nail and Spa has the distinction of being one of the few places in the city that can do gel nails very well, and for only $25. That's about the cheapest you can get it in Center City, and it's worth a lot more when its done here. I've had most of the techs work on my nails and they're all fabulous. I always get 2 weeks, if not more, out of a gel mani, and I'm HARD on my nails. As others have mentioned, they've recently renovated so there are way more manicure and pedicure chairs as well as nail dryers. CNN is always on their TVs so I feel both smart and pretty by the time I leave. they accept credit cards so I just make sure I have enough cash for a tip when I go; cash-only manicure places irk me. Several friends raved about this place so I was excited to try it out. I made an appointment for a mani/pedi and was disappointed to find that they had overbooked and didn't have someone available to do my mani. So I had to have to two services back to back, despite having been told that they would happen at the same time. The pedicure was nothing special but decent, and I thought nothing of it. My manicure, on the other hand, was not at all what I was expecting. The woman asked if I wanted my nails filed and shaped, I said yes because this usually means that my nails get filed a little into an even shape. Instead, the woman filed my nails down to the skin - to the point where you could even see the soft baby nail underneath. I only noticed after I felt pain, as she had reached my finger tips with the file and continued filing. Are you kidding? I thought this was a mistake or some nail technique at first but she did this to several nails on my hand until I pulled away and told her to stop. My finger tips were raw with pain for the rest of the day not to mention my manicure was terribly uneven with some nails normal length and others barely there. I was very pleased with my first gel manicure that I got at Queen Nail, especially with the cash price of $22! However, when I went back last week for my second gel manicure on Wednesday, it was chipped by that evening. I went back on Friday for a touch up (which they did without problem) but then on Saturday, two more of my nails were chipped. I've never experienced this with any gel manicure before and I have been getting them for over two years now. I am so lucky to live just a few blocks away from this place! After 5 visits, I've never had a bad manicure or pedicure here. In fact, I think the last mani-pedi I had was perfect; if that lady was given a coloring book, everything would be evenly shaded and inside the lines, no doubt. The shop is minimalist and clean. It's easy to relax here, especially now that they have expanded into the shop next door and have purchased another row of *very powerful* pedi massage chairs -- ahhh. The nail techs are all very sweet, so I was upset to find out that the owners garnish 20% of their tip if you tip them through a card (so, my $15 tip ended up being a lot less money in my talented nail tech's pocket because I used my debit card). Surely, this has helped them cover the small fee that they are charged by their credit card company and expand their business, but I still think that's kind of sh*tty.
