This is a really cool spot! It kind of reminds me of Box'd which is a juice bar now in Carlsbad Village. I really hope this can make it, it kind of reminds me of what the public market wanted to be, I know this isn't a farmers market, but wouldn't a farmer's market here be cool? I'm sure there will be a farmer's market here at some point though. It's pretty cool that they have a bunch of food trucks here and S&M has good meats. I haven't tried meshuggah Shack yet. read more

Feels good to be able to walk around and drink outdoors. The two times that i've been to Quartyard were after 25 mile bike rides with my friends. They have a big bar made out of cargo containers with a good selection of local craft beers. The Hell or High was very refreshing after a long ride and the New English Zumbar was delicious with the pulled pork nachos that I ordered from the S&M there. Yup S&M has a restaurant on the property. You could get Nachos, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches or even Coney Dogs to go with the beer you're drinking. The whole place is outdoor, so feel free to walk around with your drinks or there is plenty of tables with seating under umbrellas if you prefer sitting. They have life size jenga and cornhole set up to play and live entertainment on a stage located in the south west corner. Pretty cool to have a place like this downtown. Definitely look forward to coming back here. read more

Loved the out door vibe. Very reminiscent of my visits to Portland (though I'm a native San Diegonite) Hands down the strength of this place is the outdoor setting and the 'community park' vibe with picknic style bench seating that sort of nudges you out of your comfort zone and forces you to interact a bit. The dog park next door also adds to that vibe, attracting a mellow, dog-loving crowd. PLUS! They have Corn Hole-- so it's pretty sweet. I didn't try any of the food so I can't speak to that, though some girls at the bar ordered some tacos that Looked amazing! The beer selection was not vast, but was fairly diverse for having relatively few selections. They had a Monkey's Paw IPA that was really nice. My favorite of the night was the Golden State Gose-- not ONLY because it's a beer that bares my name, but because it was genuinely smooth, refreshing, light with just the right blend of sour, spice and bitter. Over all I could certainly see myself coming here again before a ball game or simply to chill on a warm San Diego evening. read more

Quart yard review We booked my daughters wedding there, soon after they moved from the old spot and before the new spot was opened. I must admit I was tentative (being the father of the bride but my daughter and wife were all in!). We were the first to book at the new location and my wife, Kimberly, immediately commented that Justin, the general manager was a dream to work with. Of course all I saw were dollar signs. I thought that the place was over priced (I was wrong). The level of service, the quality of the staff (from bartenders, security, the people who helped coordinate and move things... they were on top of EVERYTHING!). I thought that the bar (open bar with whatever cocktails you wanted and bride/groom speciality cocktails was extremely reasonable) and the drinks were great! The wedding was just over 100 people. As soon as the vows were finished and the bar and appetizers started it was a rush to the bar. That was the only time there was a wait for a drink. Justin was fully staffed with four bartenders. They were quick, efficient, while taking the time to hear what you liked and recommending something... top notch). The security staff was on top of everything too. This place is very popular so people stopped by to have drinks-- they were politely turned away and told this was a private event (I observed from afar and it was a nonissue for me because it was just handled). The sound system was incredible and our DJ sounded great. Justin made set up and removal very easy and effortless. The tables, benches, cocktail tables, and "kick back" chairs added to the cool vibe. I know this sounds stupid but I'll say it anyway. The men's and women's bathrooms were cleaned and maintained throughout the event and stayed spotless and were more than adequate. If you are thinking of hosting a wedding, or party, here you will enjoy the experience. Thank you Justin, and Quartyard, for a fantastic time. Of course we will be stopping by often. read more

The bartenders are rude and condensing. Quartyard is not my first choice for a downtown bar scene. On one day, a bartender charged me for a free soda when I was previously told refills were free, simply because this specific bartender had not served me before. On another day, a bartender rudely asked for a tip, when I did not have change for a $20. I would have given him a tip, had he not sarcastically asked. Not going back. read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars because I can't think of anything else to compare it to; and it's pretty awesome looking. Living in San Diego makes me want to take advantage of the beautiful weather, and whenever I can I like to eat/drink outside. Be it a backyard or restaurant patio. Quartyard provides a space like that. There is a lot of communal seating, a coffee shack, various eating options, a bar with some great beers on tap, as well as liquor and wine. And a turf grass dog park to boot! It's a great big, wide open space in the middle of east village. Finally, something new being built that isn't some cookie cutter glass and steel high rise condos. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back and checking out a live show. This place is coming on line just in time for spring and summer and I know I'll be coming back here read more

This place is effortlessly cool and fun! My friends and I decided to drop by just to check out the venue but ended up staying for 3 hours playing corn hole, drinking beer, talking to friends/locals and watching the cutest doggos. The music was amazing and the food definitely did not disappoint. The beer garden had all the must have craft beers as well. RL grime was littttt. This venue was cute and well-lit!! Sound system was a strong A. I really have no complaints. However, the security was excessively touchy...but whatever, I wasn't offended. They just took too long for the women and not for the men. At first, an outdoor venue was iffy to me b/c of possible bad weather conditions, but it ended up being more favorable than most indoor venues. The string lights were tasteful, and the consistent cool, outdoor temp maintained my homeostasis. Beautiful venue!! read more

Quartyard is one of a kind in downtown even in SD as a whole. I had been going to Quartyard since it had to move from its old location a couple of blocks away and it has always been one of our favorite places to go - the beer garden vibe in downtown is one of a kind, the service is always top notch, ITS A DOG's UTOPIA, and the bar is really solid with 20+ taps including awesome craft cocktails on tap (try the Moscow Mule). I saw some other reviews that prefer the old location since it was much bigger. I disagree. The smaller size of the new location is the best thing about it. Feels more like a finished space rather than a parking lot like the old location and for live shows everyone is much closer to the stage which makes for a much more intimate concert experience. Hope this location is around for years to come! read more

Can we PLEASE have one of these in Las Vegas??? I mean, I know it's hot, but it could work! Such a wonderful idea - combining 2 of my favorite things - beer and my dog!! It's a much larger space than I expected. I kind of wish the actual dog park area were a bit larger, since all size dogs were in there together. It was kind of disappointing to see some irresponsible owners as well - there should be rules against bringing your unaltered male (a HUGE pit bull and also 2 other large males) to the park. It seems like a recipe for disaster and 2 dogs actually got in a small fight while we were there, resulting in the pit bull getting bitten in the nuts (seriously). Of course, the beer selection was wonderful and there was a large variety of local beers to choose from. I know they regularly host food trucks, as well as a farmer's market on Thursday nights (I think), and there was also food from S&M Sausage and Meat. Pretty much something for everyone - dog and family friendly! I am not going to let it change my rating, but the service wasn't really that great. I waited a VERY long time for the bartender to assist me. Although it wasn't busy, she basically ignored me and offered help to EVERYONE else, even people who walked up after me. And then when she did help, she was super rude. Oh well, bad day maybe....won't stop me from going back the next time I am in town! read more

I really like this place!!! Everything in one place. The dog park area is not very big and can get pretty crowded. Most of the dogs in the park are well mannered, but there are a few that are little "excitable". People seem to be good at picking up after their own dogs, unless it's diarrhea . Anyway, there are three water bowls for the pups. Also, for the humans, there are a couple of benches and a bar-height table. Plenty of restrooms and they're clean!! (Thank goodness!) Beer garden serves until 10pm I believe. They do serve some food, but on extremely limited menu. Give it a try. You'll probably like it. read more

It is the most unique venue in San Diego and will offer live music and a will always guarantee a good time. I had the mule the margarita and some stone delicious ipa and they were great. Not a positive experience at all. The dog park stank like hot pee, and people brought their unaltered pets inside (which makes for a ton of humping and aggression). This is a food court? Could have fooled me, as there was nothing available--not even beer nuts. The staff was incredibly rude to us, asking us to move multiple times, and the place just had an air of uppity hipster-osity. We could have eaten, drank, and enjoyed the afternoon better in a parking lot. read more

Super chill environment! They have great craft beers on tap and a little dog park where you can enjoy your pint and let your dog play. My friends and I were going to go pop in and out for one drink just to check it out but we ended up staying for at least a few rounds, playing corn hole and watching/mingling with the doggos. The food they make there is great and there is also a coffee stand attached to the venue, too. I don't live in San Diego but if I did, I'd be a regular! Love this place. read more

Came here last weekend while visiting friends in SD, and it was such a great place to hang out! Lots of games to play, great drinks, and fun pups all around! Yelpers saying the dog park area is too small, the reality is that it's a popular spot that gets busy quickly, especially on a beautiful Saturday! Any bigger and it would need to be a literal park lol. I think they did a great job designing it and tried to take everyone into consideration as much as possible. I just brought my friends to the new quartyard. We were only supposed to drop by for a half hr but ended up staying there the rest of the day! It was so much fun. We played corn hole, got to look at and pet all these cool dogs (and one cat!), and got to choose from a great selection of craft beers. The seahorse coffee shop has excellent service as well and we were happy with our coffees/teas. We also ordered food. We got the grilled cheese and soup, pizza, and the fried chicken bites in the waffle cone. I would get all of those again. So excited to return when they have a show going or for a lazy Sunday:) read more

Happened to come across this while out hitting some of the local breweries and decided it would be the perfect place to bring friends who were meeting us the next evening and would have their dog with them. We had already had a big dinner so didn't check out the food selection, but was really impressed with their tap selection. My eyes bugged out when they served up full pints of a barrel aged barley wine clocking in at well above 11% ABV, slept very soundly that night. Fenced in dog play area was a blast for our friends' dog Alice as well, kind of had a urine smell but that's probably hard to avoid and I am sure they spray the astro-turf off, we were there late in the evening, however, so probably had the full day's worth of doggie use. People were really good about picking up solid waste though so that odor was not a problem. Was very impressed with how the staff dealt with a few situations that cropped up as well. One dog was being a bit aggressive so they did have the owner remove that culprit. Also, some unfortunate person who had been, very obviously, over served prior to coming in and being abandoned by his friends was in really bad shape, they made sure he was not going to fall and injure himself, had a place to heave into, and called for police to see to him. Urban renewal FTW! Similar to StrEat Food Park in San Francisco (but better, obviously) a Kickstarter-backed urban design group has turned a vacant East Village parking lot into a fun place to drink beer, walk the dog and grab some local eats. The permanent fixtures are housed in converted shipping containers and include coffee via Mission Hills' Meshuggah Shack Coffee Shop, grub via University Heights' S&M and beer n cocktails via the beverage caterers that do Coachella. Lot of local beer on tap with lunch and dinner further covered by a rotation of food trucks. Unlike the cramped SOMA version, there's plenty of open space with a well equipped array of picnic tables creating a relaxing beer garden vibe. Shit man, I could hang out here all day long. I'm really excited to see how this experiment goes, especially with special events, outdoor movie nights and live bands in the mix. Methinks RAD LAB is on to something special here. read more

Great atmosphere to hang out. Good place for drinks and a bite. Gina at the cantine suggested the Kobe beef sliders and they were delicious.

Management may want to consider character of the employees they hire. I left them with a backpack when I had an issue with my card, apparently that entitles them to ransack it. When I returned for for the bag it was brought out by management from behind the bar, so an employee is most certainly responsible. I don't want the $150 (value of the items stolen), just that this review remains. read more
