Had a lovely experience here with my family. Enjoyed a number of wine flights that were quite vibrant. We had a cheese board that pair perfectly and ended up purchasing 3 of our favorite wines. The place is small, and located inside a former military barracks so finding this place can be a bit tricky. Service was limited and not the most attentive, but once you have your wine, cheese, and great conversation, does it matter? Overall, satisfied and would come back again if I'm in the area.

I wanted to update my review, as I have been back several times through the years. Since my initial review, there have been several changes.... some better than others. First, I still really enjoy the Carruth Wine Garden. It is nice to have an outdoor space to drink wine right in the center of the city. In general there plenty of parking ,and it is dog friendly. As far as the wine, it is very good. I like some more than others. More recently, I have enjoyed the Unicorn Red Blend ( a longtime favorite) and the Syrah. I love that it is dog friendly, inside and out. My dog loves going there and she makes friends each time. A change that they made recently is that the main garden area is now child-free, which was a positive change in my options, as it had gotten a bit chaotic in the past with children not being very well supervised. The still have a family-friendly outdoor space. In the past, there was always live music when I came. I was there most recently on a Saturday evening and was disappointed that there was no music. Also, the prices have gone up ($18 per glass). Unfortunately, I found the pours to be somewhat inadequate, though it depended which staff member was pouring the wine. They do not allow for outside food, and only make certain dishes certain days of the week, which unfortunately doesn't allow for many options if you are hungry. Water is readily available inside and outside. All in all, it is a lovely place with good wine to come with friends and your 4-legged friends. It has gotten a bit pricey, and I do wish we could bring out own snacks, but I still enjoy going and am sure that I will be back.

Love Liberty Station area! Wine and charcuterie board was great. Tasty, enjoyable. Friendly service. Nice ambiance outdoors. Will come again.

Customer service was pretty mediocre. I stopped in for a quick mom break just one glass of wine but ended up waiting for quite a while while the server seemed more focused on chatting with another customer. I eventually had to ask for service. That said, I like to give places a few chances, so I would come back. The location is great, the wine was delicious, and the view was relaxing and enjoyable.

A great fall afternoon wine day! Carruth Cellars never misses -- especially when Bernadette is taking care of you! She was incredibly warm, attentive, and made the whole experience feel effortless. Her recommendations were spot on, especially the Sauvignon Blanc, which was crisp, refreshing, and exactly what I was in the mood for. And the crostinis? Unreal. Perfectly balanced, flavorful, and such a great pairing with the wines. If you're looking for a place with great pours, amazing bites, and genuinely exceptional service, ask for Bernadette. She made our visit a standout, and we'll definitely be back!

Had a decent experience here. This place is located in the middle of Liberty Station with expansive outdoor seating and wine choices. There is also a food menu with items such as cheese boards, sandwiches and flatbreads. My group sat ourselves outside on a Sunday and it was pretty crowded due to the live music. We almost couldn't get a spot. You order inside at the bar. I got a glass of rosé for $16. My group did a build your own cheese board which was somewhat disappointing. The gentleman who took our order said that the cheeseboard would be a big size (based on what we chose) and there would be "14 crackers". We decided that would be enough for my group to share. It was disappointing that it came with 4 crackers! Laughable lol. I wish he knew his facts so we could've ordered differently. I liked the taste of the meats and cheeses. It came out quickly.

Fun vibes for a little mid week wind down! We did a tasting, bottle and got alittle food and hung out in the wine garden and it was so much fun! Vibes were great and it's dog friendly!

Shout out to Carruth for the wine tasting. Many high quality wines to choose from. With so many selections I wasn't sure which reds to choose, so our server recommended 5 reds for me and gave me a sixth to try. My wife said that was the best wine tasting she ever had.

Came here for their music wine nights and what a blast. HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting there early as a line will form and it will be hard to get in since space is limited. The music playing was amazing and there was two spots you could order some wine. There are some small finger foods and beer to order as well. Limited bathrooms so be mindful of that. Overall would come to this event again.

This a nice place to relax on a Sunday afternoon. We came in about 4:30 pm and were able to find a table on their outdoor patio. The live music was nice. I had a glass of Chardonnay and a flatbread pizza with blue cheese and prosciutto. The wine was light and refreshing, but I wish it was fruiter. The flatbread was delicious. It was generous size and I enjoyed the saltiness of the blue cheese and meat. Because it is in Point Loma, the airplanes flying by is a distraction.

First time at Carruth Cellars for a farewell get together. The outside patio is lovely and dog friendly. Wines are spectacular and small bites are delicious! Hospitality was great and attentive!

Ask the Community - Carruth Cellars

Could they accommodate a group of 20?

The outdoor area is large and even on weekends there is plenty of space

Do they take reservations for dog friendly patio seating?

I think they will let you reserve a table if it is a large enough party for an event. (I've seen a few baby showers and birthdays there.) however it has always been first come, first served table seating outside. All pup friendly.

    Are dogs allowed?

Yes, there were an eclectic mix of puppies there. And I ended up adopting one!

Our first night (yes, we went twice) we booked on OpenTable. We were kindly greeted to their wonderful atmosphere with smiles and asked where we would like to sit. We chose a table inside and the hostess actually noticed we had requested an outside table and came to ask us if we wanted to switch. We thanked her, but decided to stay inside. Jacob was our server, he greeted us, told us the specials, and asked if we had questions or would like to start with a drink. We ordered drinks while we decided on dinner. We have a standing rule when there are meatballs on an appetizer menu we have to order them. We are happy we did, they came out in a wonderful sauce, and they were tender and flavorful. As we looked at the menu selections a woman at the table next to us said, "This is the best lasagna I've ever had" and that solidified my wife's choice. I decided on the fettuccine alfredo. While waiting for our entrees, Jacob brought out some amazing bread that seems like it was grilled slightly with butter, it was great while waiting. Our entrees arrived and they looked amazing. The lasagna was beautiful, fresh, cooked to perfection and flavored beautifully. My fettuccine was cooked perfect al dente and obviously tossed in olive oil and garlic before placing it on the sauce. Reading the reviews that say there isn't enough sauce is incorrect in my opinion. The balance of the perfectly cooked pasta, tossed in flavorful oil and garlic allows you to put just the right amount of sauce without losing the other flavors. If you want a large bowl of sauce and some noodle, just go to Olive Garden. We finished the night off with some limoncello cake (amazing) and walked back to our hotel room after everybody wished us a wonderful evening. How could we not go back after that experience? So we did. Once again we made reservations on OpenTable and walked down to Vinarius from our hotel. Jacob and Giuseppe among others recognized us from the previous night and warmly welcomed us. Jacob said he was working a different section, and Paula would be our server. At first we were disappointed, until we met Paula. She was so full of energy and happiness that it was infectious. We started with drinks and this time Caesar salads for an appetizer. You can tell when a salad is fresh, the dressing house made and croutons that definitely didn't come out of a bag. I'm pretty sure they were made in a similar fashion to the bread the night before. Paula, Jacob and the gentleman who refills water were attentive and fun. There was a running joke that my wife could get her water refilled before the gentleman made it to our table. It just made the evening that much more fun. We both ordered the Margarita pizza for our entree. We LOVE pizza, we make it fresh at home and appreciate a great pizza. This pizza was so simple, fresh and perfectly baked. The crust was crisp, soft and flavorful in the middle and topped with a simple tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil. We ordered another limoncello cake and shots to finish off the night. We asked Jacob if anybody there was related, he said no, but they feel like family. That is obvious. We then pulled Giuseppe aside and asked if he was the manager, and he said yes. We told him how great everything from service to the food was. Everybody there is genuine, and wanting to make your experience special and amazing. As we were leaving Giuseppe thanked us again, shook our hands and gave us each a hug. Everybody once again wished us a great night and trip back home the next day. Please experience this amazing restaurant, it's worth your time and your money. We will be back when we visit San Diego again.
