I came here to meet my friends after work and I never knew that this wine garden and tasting room existed in Liberty Station. It's nice to know that there's another great option for happy hour! We mainly had red wines and I really liked their Pinot Noir. We also snacked on the mild cheese plate, as well as the bold and the beautiful cheese plate which had more bolder cheeses like goat cheese. It came with bread, olives and fruit like grapes, blackberries, and strawberries as well as a yummy jam which I think was fig. If you want meat like prosciutto, you'll have to add it and pay additional for it. There's seating indoors and a big patio area. My friends stayed here until they closed at 9pm just talking and drinking away!

The place is small, and located inside a former military barracks so finding this place can be a bit tricky. Service was limited and not the most attentive, but once you have your wine, cheese, and great conversation, does it matter? Overall, satisfied and would come back again if I'm in the area.

I wanted to update my review, as I have been back several times through the years. Since my initial review, there have been several changes.... some better than others. First, I still really enjoy the Carruth Wine Garden. It is nice to have an outdoor space to drink wine right in the center of the city. In general there plenty of parking ,and it is dog friendly. As far as the wine, it is very good. I like some more than others. More recently, I have enjoyed the Unicorn Red Blend ( a longtime favorite) and the Syrah. I love that it is dog friendly, inside and out. My dog loves going there and she makes friends each time. A change that they made recently is that the main garden area is now child-free, which was a positive change in my options, as it had gotten a bit chaotic in the past with children not being very well supervised. The still have a family-friendly outdoor space. In the past, there was always live music when I came. I was there most recently on a Saturday evening and was disappointed that there was no music. Also, the prices have gone up ($18 per glass). Unfortunately, I found the pours to be somewhat inadequate, though it depended which staff member was pouring the wine. They do not allow for outside food, and only make certain dishes certain days of the week, which unfortunately doesn't allow for many options if you are hungry. Water is readily available inside and outside. All in all, it is a lovely place with good wine to come with friends and your 4-legged friends. It has gotten a bit pricey, and I do wish we could bring out own snacks, but I still enjoy going and am sure that I will be back.

Her recommendations were spot on, especially the Sauvignon Blanc, which was crisp, refreshing, and exactly what I was in the mood for. And the crostinis? Unreal. Perfectly balanced, flavorful, and such a great pairing with the wines. If you're looking for a place with great pours, amazing bites, and genuinely exceptional service, ask for Bernadette. She made our visit a standout, and we'll definitely be back!
Had a decent experience here. This place is located in the middle of Liberty Station with expansive outdoor seating and wine choices. There is also a food menu with items such as cheese boards, sandwiches and flatbreads. My group sat ourselves outside on a Sunday and it was pretty crowded due to the live music. We almost couldn't get a spot. You order inside at the bar. I got a glass of rosé for $16. My group did a build your own cheese board which was somewhat disappointing. The gentleman who took our order said that the cheeseboard would be a big size (based on what we chose) and there would be "14 crackers". We decided that would be enough for my group to share. It was disappointing that it came with 4 crackers! Laughable lol. I wish he knew his facts so we could've ordered differently. I liked the taste of the meats and cheeses. It came out quickly.

I stopped in for a quick mom break just one glass of wine but ended up waiting for quite a while while the server seemed more focused on chatting with another customer. I eventually had to ask for service. That said, I like to give places a few chances, so I would come back. The location is great, the wine was delicious, and the view was relaxing and enjoyable.

Shout out to Carruth for the wine tasting. Many high quality wines to choose from. With so many selections I wasn't sure which reds to choose, so our server recommended 5 reds for me and gave me a sixth to try. My wife said that was the best wine tasting she ever had.
Came here for their music wine nights and what a blast. HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting there early as a line will form and it will be hard to get in since space is limited. The music playing was amazing and there was two spots you could order some wine. There are some small finger foods and beer to order as well. Limited bathrooms so be mindful of that. Overall would come to this event again.

I had a glass of Chardonnay and a flatbread pizza with blue cheese and prosciutto. The wine was light and refreshing, but I wish it was fruiter. The flatbread was delicious. It was generous size and I enjoyed the saltiness of the blue cheese and meat. Because it is in Point Loma, the airplanes flying by is a distraction.

Love this place for their massive outdoor area and their quaint indoor bar. I've been here a few times and even hosted a small event of 20 people before. This time around, it was just the 3 of us, to chat over some wine and apps. Had their April featured Pinot, which was amazing (had 2 glasses). It's good to keep in mind that they only sell their flatbreads on certain days and unfortunately, they didn't serve it when we went. So, instead we had the crostinis, which is perfect if you want a little bit of everything, but not sure what to get. My friend got the chicken Caesar wrap, and it was a lot bigger than expected. As far as the ambience, there's seating all around the bar that's located in the middle. So it's convenient to just walk up to the bar to place your order. Servers and bartenders were friendly and quick. Overall this is a great laid-back place for small or large groups. read more

On a visit to San Diego we visited the Wine Garden of Carruth Cellars. It was a cool and cloudy day so we sat indoors looking out at the garden. We had a delightful lunch - sharing both the Farmhouse Chopped Salad with a flight of Crostini. Each slide of Baguette had different toppings that were delicious. The salad was delicious - with a plenty of flavorful ingredients (Romaine, Radicchio, Salami, Cherry Tomatoes, Red Onion topped with a house made vinaigrette. The five Crostini had unique flavors that was a tasting adventure. We enjoyed them all but I preferred the Marinated Feta Date with Pecan and honey and the Fig with Gouda cheese and Thyme. My wife's favorite was the more savory Hummus Tapenade with Feta and the Herb Chèvre with Sweet Peppers. The ambiance was casual but classy and the service was friendly and attentive. read more
Still my favorite winery in central san diego! You just can't beat the Vibe! Beautiful outdoor patio with live music! Greaf quality and variety of wines too. They have some light food options such as sandwiches and salads, cheese plate and flatbread on select nights. I tried the fig and blue flatbread rhis last visit and the fig jam accompanied by light blue cheese on fresh soft bread complimented our wine so well! You can also just come for the wine, which I occasionally do. Oh there's also plenty of free parking, so makes the travel easy. read more

Such a great place! Everything from their outdoor seating area that's dog-friendly to indoor space to their wine and food selection. This is conveniently located on the opposite side of the parking lot of Liberty Station food hall and it's fairly easy to find parking with all of the lots/street parking around. There is a huge "wine garden" sign welcoming you and a nice outdoor area to hang out and drink/eat. I particularly liked the indoor area with their large bar and seating along the walls. All of the ladies working were super friendly and helpful as well! This trip I ordered the Bartender Choice flight reds and I enjoyed them all. My favorite was probably the Tempranillo. Our table also sampled a bunch of different food items with my favorite being the warm ginger molasses cookie. This is a great addition to Liberty Station and I will be back! read more

This place is perfect for relaxing in an afternoon/evening and enjoying a glass of wine and some food. It's kind of hidden in liberty station but once you find it they have a large patio with lots of seating and also heaters when it gets chillier. We both had wine flights and also got a charcuterie board that was perfect for the two of us. The cheeses were delicious and the wine was great. Highly recommend for a relaxing afternoon! read more

This is one of my favorite weekend spots. I think the staff is lovely and the entire place and menu is amazing. However, I have repeatedly had issues with missing menu items when doing a build your own charcuterie board. It's always a missing jam or spread that I ordered that doesn't come which is slightly annoying that this has happened repeatedly - especially on days where I have been one four people there. The outdoor setting is beautiful. Market lights. Colorful chairs. Drought resistant greenery. Just gorgeous. The service is great as well. Go inside. Order a glass, bottle or flight of wine and bring your number outside. I got the build your own cheeseboard with Manchego, olives, honeycomb and gluten free crackers. The wedge Cesar looked amazing as well. I got a glass of the Rose of Pinot Noir. Decent. And they offer free still and sparkling water. read more
We came upon this place doing an evening walk in the area and decided to try their wine flights (red and white). Both were pretty good with many choices to choose from. It just feels like home here in this Liberty Station winery. The reds are perfect for a cool rainy evening and you'll be friends with the entire bar staff before you leave. Try the Barrel Select Cabernet Sauvignon for a delicious treat. read more

What a great venue, with great service and good wine! But, why are your prices so high? $17 for a glass of wine? And, it's not a very generous pour. Yes, I know that the price of everything has gone up. And, I know that you're located in a tourist area. I had the wine flight and was able to pick my own wines which was great. I split a cheese plate with my friend. We're talking $40 for a total of 7 Oz. of wine and 1/2 cheese plate. Just seems high to me. But, fun place with a really nice patio with heaters. But those planes overhead!!! read more

Could they accommodate a group of 20?
The outdoor area is large and even on weekends there is plenty of space
Do they take reservations for dog friendly patio seating?
I think they will let you reserve a table if it is a large enough party for an event. (I've seen a few baby showers and birthdays there.) however it has always been first come, first served table seating outside. All pup friendly.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, there were an eclectic mix of puppies there. And I ended up adopting one!
