The space is really convenient to get to - it's near Castle Island, walk-able (albeit a bit of a hike!) from the Broadway area, and is generally rather safe. During the summer, it's awesome because there is a doggy water fountain for all the pooches to enjoy. Since it is fenced in, it's a great way for FloJo to sprint around, chase, and be chased without having to worry about running off somewhere where she shouldn't go... Parking around the area is definitely a little tough and there is no real crosswalk to get to the park, so I would definitely wear sneakers. Overall, as long as you bring waste bags and water for yourself, it's definitely a great place to be. Parts of the park are shaded, which is wonderful on hot summer days. There aren't any benches for humans, so like other Yelpers have mentioned ... be prepared to stand. Most of the other doggy owners are nice and you'll surely make new friends. Don't be embarrassed if your dog has their own Instagram, Twitter, and/or Tindr (say what?!) account because most of the other humans will admit their dogs have one, too. I typically bring a tennis ball or two with me to toss around. Flower shares her toys well, but if your dog doesn't, I wouldn't bring anything because all the other dogs just want to play. Don't bring any nice toys because they will be destroyed in minutes. Tennis balls are the majority favorite! Sidenote: I will admit that I come to the park after dark on weeknights. The area around the park and Castle Island is heavily patrolled by Boston Police and the Staties. If you feel uncomfortable walking back to your car, just ask one of the police officers to follow you back to your car and they will certainly help you out.

My dodo loves playing on the grass and we have walked on the short trails while he sniffs everything on his way. I personally feel it's a great park for a brisk walk with your dodo. My rating is exclusively based on the trials overall and taking 1 star away for the dog ranch area.

There is parking and nearby bike paths. While there are lots of open fields nearby, the fenced in areas of the dog park itself are small. There is an area for small dogs, separate from that of big dogs, but they are both small areas. The big dog area could stand to be much larger. The ground is gravel/packed dirt... pebbles would be better. I can see this being muddy and have heard some owners complain the gravel is too sharp for paws. The entry/exit points of the enclosures are not the usual "airlock" system with two gates, but a separate entry/exit which did not keep other dogs from trying to escape with us when we left. There is one bench for people to sit on, more benches would be nice. There is a trash can. There is currently no water, but I have heard that there are plans to add that in the spring. There are fun things for dogs to run over and around, and someone has stocked the pens with tennis balls, but the best things dogs like to play with is the other dogs. Our dog was very happy to play with everyone! This new park was already very busy with dogs on a Sunday afternoon. If we really want our dog to get some exercise, we would probably still go to Beaver Brook or Cat Rock Pak where there is more space to run, but this is a good option for play time! I hope Waltham listens and continues to make this park even better!

Many dog owners do choose to leave the smaller fenced area to play ball with their dog in the field. One warning however - there is a sign posted at the entrance that says you need to keep your dog inside the fenced area and that you need a dog tag from the city of Newton. I have never encountered a police officer coming by to check for tags, and I've been here dozens of times, but I have heard from other people that they received verbal warnings. So just be wary of this. I am pretty sure this is a rule posted in most dog parks. For the most part, owners are pretty good about picking up after their dogs and leaving the park if their dog is misbehaving. The winter melt can be a little disgusting, which tends to be true of all dog parks unfortunately. Don't wear your nicest sneakers to the dog park. Tip: If you show up between 10:30am and noon on a weekday, you may encounter LOTS of dogs. I've observed that this tends to be the period where the local dog walkers and daycare folks come by with their carfuls of dogs. This is a GREAT time to swing by if your dog is very social.

It opened up in the summer of 2018 and is definitely CLEAN. It has a fake grass area about 75 feet long and the park itself easily stretches 200 feet long, which is mainly gravel. There are actually barrels here to throw away your poo and there is running water both in the big dog park along with the smaller dog area. Some people will leave behind balls but definitely bring a toy if your dog tends to play well with others when they have them. Oh and you also don't need to bring your own doggie bags if you don't want to since they are provided. I'm not sure what more you could ask for. Almost everything you would ever need is provided for you and it has ample parking. It was the perfect addition to Burlington, bring your pupper down for a little play time!

This was the first time I brought my puppy to a dog park because I'm nervous about how other dogs will behave but they were all very nice along with their owners. Water is available there, but they don't have baggies for poop so make sure to bring your own. There are two spots, one for smaller which is on the upper side, and one that is for bigger dogs (25 lbs and up). We have a smaller dog so we went to that area first, but there weren't any dogs up there. The smaller dogs were with the big dogs in that area so we went down there and it was fine. Dogs were well behaved.

The recreational space, including a baseball field, canoeing area, a walking / jogging trail, an open field, a dog park, and a function room / recreational facility for the Town of Dedham sit along Route 135 (Common Street), close to the Rt. 128 break (exit 17). The facility is great for a whole family, or for anyone looking to canoe, take a walk, or have a place to bring their dog. Everything is positioned strategically, therefore each feature is spacious, and usable to anyone. The baseball field is practically brand new, the canoeing area also very new, with a full lower deck parking zone for anyone. The walking and jogging trail (check it out with others at: dedhamtrails.org) are also accessible via the top or lower deck lots, and very lengthy, tree lined, and pleasant to take a walk or jog (my favorite form of exercise). This trail may look short and futile, but believe me, it is long and you must continue to follow the little green "Dedham Trails" signs to continue on the trail. The dog park is also super large, and visible from Common Street (as it lines right up with the street). The park is large and is much more dog friendly than some of the other nearby parks (like the annoying Sharon Dog Park....), having lots of places for people to sit and walk around with their pets. I don't really know what the building with the function room is used for, but its normally closed (during both of my first experiences here). I will definitely be returning to walk often (or use the dog park). It's definitely one of the best parks in Dedham, out of the five or so that currently exist. Definitely a great place to bring the whole family! 5 stars for the Dedham Recreational area.

This one is clearly new and has a very durable/new fence with a double gate. There is free street parking, although it can be a tight fit. They use a pebble-like material on the ground that works really well and keeps the ground dry, which is probably the next best thing after grass. If you have a car, this is an awesome find! It's a double edged sword, because it's a small park and once the Boston dog owners know its here it will get a lot more crowded ;)
