First time here, but I don't know a single person that hasn't recommended it without rave reviews…read more PROS: Trails. Great for off leash dog walking. There were tons of dogs roaming about, owners right on their heels, so no worries about unattended animals. Clean(er) ponds, since they're connected to flowing water sources. There was only spot we saw where the water seemed stagnant. Most everywhere else it was relatively clean. It's not crystal blue Caribbean waters, obviously, but for your dog to swim in, it's good. CONS: Parking seemed tight. Found a spot, but it looks like local residents are not happy about street parking for overflow, so there were signs prohibiting street parking. This was at the Drabbington entrance. I'm sure there's another entrance I don't know about. OVERALL: My new gold standard for off leash hiking.

Great hike! This hike is easy and the length is 1.2 mi, it might take 30 minutes to walk around…read more The huge surprise was that you can let your dog walk without the leash. A lot of people bring their dogs. This hike has a lake where your dog can swim. Nature is beautiful, when you are walking around you could hear the woodpeckers. The only problem is parking. There are not a lot of parking spots, and if you go there, there are only residents parking on the weekends. There is no additional parking available for people who just visiting the park.

This is a pretty awesome place to bring your dog if your dog likes other dogs. There is a fenced-in…read morearea on one end of the park, and the rest is a grassy field for sports. Many dog owners do choose to leave the smaller fenced area to play ball with their dog in the field. One warning however - there is a sign posted at the entrance that says you need to keep your dog inside the fenced area and that you need a dog tag from the city of Newton. I have never encountered a police officer coming by to check for tags, and I've been here dozens of times, but I have heard from other people that they received verbal warnings. So just be wary of this. I am pretty sure this is a rule posted in most dog parks. For the most part, owners are pretty good about picking up after their dogs and leaving the park if their dog is misbehaving. The winter melt can be a little disgusting, which tends to be true of all dog parks unfortunately. Don't wear your nicest sneakers to the dog park. Tip: If you show up between 10:30am and noon on a weekday, you may encounter LOTS of dogs. I've observed that this tends to be the period where the local dog walkers and daycare folks come by with their carfuls of dogs. This is a GREAT time to swing by if your dog is very social.

It appears to be at 146 Newton Street, Brighton. The Parks Commissioner Banks from the City of…read moreNewton excludes everyone from use of the park unless they pay $70-$75 dollars for a dog license and permit " medallion." They charge $100.00 for any dog from outside of Newton to use the park. The park is very muddy and appears to be in part in Brighton. (Elmhurst Rd is end of Newton). The Parks hired a park ranger to issue fines unless all dogs have permits. The dog license is $20.00 and excludes all use of public parks (Off leash)

I had a great time visiting this pond. There is a trail that goes around the pond, that takes…read moreabout an hour to walk. It's sandy and pebbly, not propery paved. There is mostly beach sand/gravel around the banks of the pond. The water is super clear and glassy and we could see fish in the water! It's a good spot to see some foliage. A ways from the pond, you can see the site where Henry David Thoreau's cabin was, and you can also see a recreation at a different location. It's definitely a little crowded with people, but makes a decent place to get a little bit of crisp autumn air. I saw plenty of folks around the banks fishing and hiking. It's not the most remote hiking spot around. Nearby is the cute little town of Concord. The parking is on the expensive side as others had noted. It is 8 dollars for MA plates, but there is a substantial amount of parking close to the visitor center.

Walden Pond is a pond, not very different from ponds all over the country. What makes it special is its association with Henry David Thoreau. He lived in a cabin on the shore of the pond for two years, and the pond and his experience living there inspired one of his most famous works, "Walden; or, Life in the Woods." The park has a lot to offer. There are trails, including the Pond Path, which circles the pond. There are beach areas. There is a visitor center, where you can watch a short documentary about Walden Pond. There's a gift shop/bookstore, where you can buy a copy of Walden to read while looking at Walden. There's also the replica of Thoreau's cabin (you can also visit the site of the original cabin). My mom and I visited the Visitor Center, watched the documentary, and enjoyed a picnic lunch on the main beach. We saw tons of people hiking, swimming, boating, kayaking, and more. Walden Pond is a special place - a must visit if you're also visiting Concord for the first time.
