Great dog park that's not too far from the city. There's a huge field where the dogs can run / play fetch and many trails around there for if you want to get out of the sun or go for a walk yourself (on the trails you're supposed to leash your dog but it's maybe 50/50 but haven't ever seen anyone complain). There's no in-place water source for the dogs, but plenty of people bring water and are happy to share. My pup always has a great time and can't wait to go back! read more

I have been trying to find a place for my Siberian to run around and this is the place that didn't disappoint. The great opening field and flat terrain gives it the perfect size and ample ground for any dog of any size to run and play and socialize. While it's a bit annoying to get yelled at by a ranger for having my dog off leash about 100 feet from the field where you're allowed to let them roam free, this still remains near the top for me in terms of the best places on the North Shore to take your dog friend. The location and entrance is super easy to find, it's right off of Rt 28 between Stoneham and Medford (across from the 93S exit ramp). The problem is, parking in either of the two main lots can be packed depending on the time and day of the week you go. Early in the morning? Usually not a problem, get there before 10 AM on the weekends. After work, right before sunset? Also usually a good time to go? Avoid at all costs "peak times" during the weekend though, you'll end up not finding anything, getting frustrated and making up your own spot only to come back to a parking ticket. At least when we had a dog meetup here once, the ranger came over to tell us they would be ticketing cars parked illegally and they had to be moved instead of just doling them out. Did you arrive at a weird time and no other dogs are around? Head into the woods behind the large field and take a trail walk. Again, watch out for rangers who may yell at you for not having the dog on leash. There are about 5-6 different entrance points into the Fells trails. There are public water sources surrounding it so you are a little limited to where you can go but there is a nice hike to Bear Hill Tower from here which will take you about 15 minutes. The weekends can have anywhere from 5-50 dogs at a time and there seems to be a "pack mentality" that brews once the number of dogs reaches 20 or more. So be prepared for that, if your dog can be aggressive or timid, I wouldn't recommend visiting at a peak time. The good thing is, you can keep your dog away from many of the others if you decide to just throw a ball, it's easily 1/4 mile long from end to end, if not more than that. Bring doggie bags and for crying out loud, take it with you. I don't know why people think it's ok to leave bags of dog feces all around for someone to pick up after them, what's so hard in taking it out when you leave? There are also no places to get water for your pal so your best bet is to bring a big communal bowl or bring lots of water and someone has probably left or has a bowl there already. Put aside a half hour for your dog to go crazy with others or 3-4 hours if you want to hit the trails with them and combine it with some play. Good dog park for the most park. The problem is there can be too many dogs. I'd say 80% keep their dog under verbal control but 20% is a lot for a park with 40+ dogs running around. Plus people leave their dogs waste on the ground or near the tree. I don't know why, it's gross and just seems lazy. read more

Fairly good option if you're looking for open field with off-leash opportunity for your pup. Parking is a nightmare unless you get there super early on weekends, otherwise you will wait in a long line of cars for at least 15-20 minutes. For the most part, dog owners are responsible, but I've seen some questionable scenarios. Some dogs are overly aggressive and start fights, so you really have to pay attention. There is no trashcan, so people pick up their dogs poop and leave a pile of bags. Honestly we really just prefer the trails that you can access from here. Just be careful if you let your dog off-leash, they definitely monitor in the trails. Great place to explore! read more

This is one of my favorite areas of the Middlesex fells, there's a great off-leash dog park, as well as a cool makeshift cabin in the woods. It's got a beautiful view and some cute little streams. I go there with my roommate and her dog as much as I can! read more

Hi! It's Daisy again. This is one of my favorite places ever. I first came here with my bff, Bear, and my pack and I went on a nice hike here. This was before I was allowed to go off leash. After taking some recall classes (see my previous reviews!), my humans felt comfortable taking me off leash here. There is a great dog park right here, and I love running around with dogs. Sometimes there are dogs that will run to get a ball, and I love to run. Except I want them to chase me, and they don't. Others really want to play, and I love that! Just be careful here because the area is not fenced in and it is easy for dogs to run into the woods. Also, sometimes there are dogs that play too hard, so make sure to stick close by with your humans and respect that not all dogs want to play. **whisper** I also go off leash on the trail sometimes, but my humans make sure I stay close by in case there is a cyclist, jogger, or dogs/humans that aren't comfortable around other dogs. Please be mindful of that! I like the skyline trail the best. My biggest annoyance is that sometimes other humans do not pick up after their dogs. There is a big dumpster in the parking lot. I see a lot of poop bags in piles by the trees. If you are going to go through that much trouble to pick up poop, at least throw the bag away! My humans carry extra grocery bags with them. If I poop while on the hike, they just triple bag it and toss it in the dumpster on the way out. Parking can be tricking if the weather is especially nice, but there are usually people leaving after a few minutes wait. Be careful parking where it says not to, I have seen people get tickets. read more

I've been coming here for the last 5 years, year round, since adopting my dogs. I really like that this is a huge space and not gated as it's better for my dogs. But if you come here make sure your dog is good with recall. There is plenty of space for the pups to go sniff the grass, play together or on their own and explore. If there's an altercation with the dogs they can easily be seperated by going on a hike on the trails. I have seen a few nasty fights but its usually on the weekends when all sorts of people are there. In other cases its when people bring un-neutured dogs to the park. Occasionally there are people who do other crazy things here, like have a sit down picnic (dumb), fencing, photo shoots, role playing, and I think there is an annual box car race. People also bring their little kids here (I think there's an age limited posted) and let them walk around near the dogs. Just be mindful since its not gated its also shared space and there can be other distractions. Best time to go is during the week. Parking on the weekends is a wait especially if you get there around 10am and after during the nicer seasons. Winter is super fun to watch the pups play in the snow. There are other animals in the reservation if you're on the trails. My dogs love to do a quick play session then go on the trails. I've never had an encounter with the rangers on the trails, probably because I come here when its not busy during the week. Even though I moved to a 30 min drive away from a 10 min, I still come here cause its the best for my dogs. read more

We brought our French Bulldog puppy to start his socialization and it has been wonderful to meet so many responsible dog owners. Everyone has been welcoming and taking extra care when introducing their dogs to my pup. I give it a 4 star rating only because there are no trash cans to throw away the poop bags, so folks leave them at the signs along the main path, but naturally, I would rather they do that, than not pick up after their four legged friends. read more

This is a gorgeous 10 acre open meadow area where dogs can run and play, socialize. People are pretty friendly. There are some who don't pick up their dogs poop, though it's much better than it used to be. The woods are gorgeous. Take a hike w your dog around the North Reservoir (3 miles). Great and expansive area where dogs can run wild lease-free! My dogs love it! There is plenty of room to play with other dogs or simply explore solo depending on their moods that day. Additionally, they have some excellent dog-friendly hiking trails. Leashes are required on the trails because of the reservoir(s) nearby, but I've seen well-behaved dogs off the leash and no one seems to mind. Really nice off leash park! More like a meadow than a park which I really like. Nice big open space for the dogs to run and play. There are even some nice woodsy off leash trails to go on. Jugs of water are usually left out for the dogs to drink (a thoughtful touch!) and a picnic table to sit at if you get tired. People generally clean up after their pups and put trash in the dumpster by the exit of the park. There's a decent amount of parking available, which is good. Really nice way to end a busy day with your dog out in nature. read more

I have a love/hate with this park. I love the trails, reservoir, view and free parking they provide, As well as the friendly and educated dog owners that visit here wth their friendly non dominant dogs. If it were only the educated dog owners with other non-aggressive animals this would be a true dog Utopia! On the other hand, I hate the large amount of aggressive dogs we've encountered here and the clueless dog owners that accompany them. My dog was attacked by an off leash legit vicious pitbull this weekend (mauled like a rag doll by his neck) and has had another encounter with an off leash pitbull at this park before. police have been called multiple times by multiple owners because of aggressive pitbulls mauling dogs. There are a couple of wooly husky siblings that urinate on people marking human territory (rare but true), while the ignorant owners laugh it off not knowing they're supposed to correct this aggressive behavior. Dog fights break out and owners can't understand why, when the whole time their dog was "just playing" with that other dog (who was clearly NOT playing and clearly not enjoying itself and was trying to give every sign to the aggressive dog to back off.) People! Read a book or take a class but just don't take your dominant dog to the park if you don't know the signs, or know the behaviors to correct, and if you don't have the ability to control them! We generally walk straight to the trails and avoid the off leash dog area if we see dogs acting dominant like we have, but occasionally they run up from the parking lot before we cant avoid it. My dog is non dominant-non submissive and plays well with other neutral dogs like him, this park is often overrun by aggressive dogs and pitbulls that are way too rough for neutral dogs. Fan of the trails, and occasionally the off leash dog area. If you're dog is small or non dominant/aggressive Id be weary of the off leash area. Generally earlier hours on the weekends are less crowded and easier to manage what dogs your pet encounters. read more

People! Clean up after your dogs! Honestly, you should not be allowed to own a dog if you don't know how to take care of them and clean up after them. And no, I don't mean leaving a bag of poop under a tree (or even better, next to the sign that says "Clean up and carry out your dog's waste 100% of the time"). Just do it. It's your responsibility.
