Very small park and no separation for little dogs. Not a great park. Dangerous for little ones to play with big dogs with high prey drive.

The park itself is nice and plenty big enough for the dogs to run around but there is always a dog fight there. 4/5 times I have been there, there was a fight sending a dog to the vet and someone bleeding. My dog has never been involved but I no longer feel safe bringing my dog there especially since the owners of the dogs involved have been the one to break it up. My advise is to avoid this place. read more

Our dog loves it, but you gotta keep watch because not all dogs can be friendly with one another. My dog is little, and he wants to play with every dog, but some big dogs don't care for puppies like him or they can play rough. My dog can also be annoying following other dogs around when they're not in the mood to play. The ground is good for running but on wet days, your dogs will definitely be dirty especially if your dogs have long furs or little ones with bodies close to the ground. There are tennis balls but chewed up and dirty. I bring my own ball to play with my dog. read more

Simple but clean, centrally-located dog park in Melrose. It's quite new (doesn't even have a sign yet) but I've already been here several times w/my pooch and have seen a myriad of other doggies playing and running gleefully through this park. There are trees bordering the park and it's not very large nor are there separate play areas for large and small dogs so if you are an owner of a timid or smaller dog, it's best to keep a watchful eye when he/she plays with the pack. Also, as it's very new, there are no water facilities but several donated water dishes so be sure to pack some water for your trip. Plenty of parking and in case you can't find it, it's in the loop as you drive down Lynn Fells Parkway (directly across from Melrose High and Middle schools). Small nit - I wish that Melrose would do more to promote this dog park. I had to consult several webpages and even the Melrose Dog Society site and none of them mentioned when it would be open or the actual address. It's such a boon to the city you think they would want to get the word out! read more

Overall, this is a great place. It is shaded in spots by large over hanging trees, it's clean and there is a fresh water fountain. Sometimes it gets muddy but in the warmer months you can just bring your dog to the pond afterward to rinse off. The other doggy parents are attentive and the dogs are well behaved. Unfortunately There are many how should I put it....Shitty dog owners that are always there. We stopped going due to a dog fight EVERY single time we have been there. Great park for group play. Went after work and there were close to 10 other dogs there. Very clean but pretty small. No separate area for small dogs. There was a doggie water fountain available which was a plus. Had to find it by looking up the address for Melrose High School which is directly across the street from the park. Today was my first time here. I was psyched that there were "regular" people, not dog walkers. We've been to New Washington Park in Somerville. A lot of dog walkers take their dogs there and don't let them play with others. My dog was running around, playing with other dogs, chasing the ball...having a great time. Until a guy showed up with his German Shepherd. The dog growled a bit when it said hello to other dogs. It made me nervous, but no one else seemed concerned so I felt a little better. It got into a scuffle with one of the dogs. I kept mine away. It started fighting with another dog and the owner had to lay on top of it to get it to stop. Literally! That's when I knew it was time to leave. At least my dog got in 20 mins of fun. My husband has brought our dog here before and said he's seen aggressive dogs, too. Coupled with the reviews on here, I will never take my dog here again. P.S. - The high school gets out at 2:05, which makes parking a nightmare. One of the ladies recommended coming at 2:30 or later. read more

NEWCOMERS NOT WELCOME I recently brought my 6 month old black lab here, as he is very friendly and loves to play with every dog he meets. The dogs seemed alright at first and appeared very friendly, greeting him at the gate. My dog is not small by any means, but all of these dogs (about 4 or 5) that came over right away were much larger than him (most were 75-100 lbs, he was about 53) as soon as he was let off his leash all the dogs teamed up, cornering him against a fence, he was visibly scared at this point and the owners did nothing. He managed to escape but was chased down by one of the dogs. This may come off as play to some, but it was far from it, as the dogs were angry and growling. He tried to hide under a bench, tail between his legs it the dogs followed him there too. When running away from the dogs, he slammed his paw into a bench making him yelp (pun not intended) in pain. None of the owners cared this whole time even when he was scared and hurt. Owners worse Than dogs. We could tell we were not welcomed from the start. They stared and even pointed when we arrived. This all happened in about one minute, and we have since promised our dog we would never be back, as it took more than 5 minutes to calm him down. Deserves 0 stars, please never bring your dog here. read more

I can't say this is my favorite dog park or the worst dog park. Each time I've gone my pup has had a great time, he loves running around and playing with other dogs, which is great. However I feel as though this place is always muddy, and my pup tents to try and drink the puddles. Many "dog parents" seem to lack cleaning up after their dogs. read more

Positive: This dog park is OK, it is good to go to if your dog needs to play in an enclosed area if they are not good with recall. I only take my foster dogs here for them to let out some energy since they aren't strong with recall. Some what spacious for the dogs to run in but because it is enclosed it gets crowded when there are lots of dogs and owners during a peak time. The ground is covered in wood chips and overall it is clean. A great feature is there is a water fountain, trash barrels and poop bags if you forget your own. Why I am writing this review- the negatives: Of the times I have been, I find it gives an offsetting vibe. I have met some nice dog owners, but I think I have witnessed and heard of more that are not so pleasant and not so dog savvy and responsible. To note I have been to lots of dog parks and have seen and experienced almost everything that could happen. With this dog park being enclosed, I've witnessed many owners get extremely anxious over dog fights. Most times dogs are really playing and owners jump to conclusions when they hear growling and don't even see the tails wagging. Just recently I was here with my foster and my own dog and my dog (who is 60lbs) was literally ran tackled by a human hard enough he lifted off the ground because this person thought my dog was attacking another dog when in fact they were playing. Another dog involved ended up being the culprit and nipped the dog being chased. I was FURIOUS. Never have I ever seen anyone do that to a dog at a park. Ironically, this person didn't even have a dog and was just there and yelled at me to "control my dog"- what a complete loser, get your own dog first then come tell me what I should be doing. These kinds of situations at an enclosed dog park become a drama show for everyone else there and casts an uncomfortable atmosphere after everything is said and done. And none of the other dog owners involved in this came up and apologized for not controlling their own dogs. The regulars told me the police have gotten involved at this park multiple times both for dog fights and human fights! HUMAN FIGHTS over their dogs! Come on now. Maybe dog owners should go to basic obedience and etiquette class too. There was also one day I showed up to this park and the police there arresting a dog. It was horrible. You're better off driving up the street to Sheepfold then come here. read more

First time there was a great experience. The enclosed area had dirt and wood chips for ground cover some areas of grass, doggy bins with poop bags, a step water fountain bowl for all to enjoy. Community toys left all the dogs shared and loved. All the different dogs and their humans were having fun, happy, respectful and just wonderful!! It only took about an hour of wild hellos, feisty frisbee, ball and rope tosses and not one issue with the big and tall, short and heavy, small and fuzzy, timid and outgoing all was just a great first time experience. The humans were surprisingly just as varied, happy and well behaved as their beloved breads. Not one issue! We will definitely recommend this park. Let's not forget the big monster tire and the nice wooden hump bridge round 15' long so all can jump up, run over, under and even humans were using it as a sitting area for those humans who wish to be part of the action - great - first experience. Oh, also just off the main road, round the back with plenty of free parking, safe and clean(ish). read more
