    Frozen pond...
    Rebecca W.

This was a neat discovery in this small pocket of town. It was cold as all can be (according to our southern-acclimated blood/skin). My family and I parked, and walked down to find a frozen pond and a small waterfall that poured over into a brook. Unfortunately, it appeared that the ice was THIN... don't even think aobut ice skating on iet. All I could think was that I was thrilled I had my hiking boots on. We walked around the area, while dodging icy spots on the ground, all while breathing the cool, crisp air. This was a great activity to do during our first full day in Boston after a full day of traveling the previous day. It's also located in a small town with cute homes an area boasting with character =)

Beaverbrook reservation is a nice state park on the border of Waltham and Belmont and it has many amenities. These amenities include a playground for the kids and very nice spray park, a large open field and walkways and paths. And there's also a tennis court. Up the street, more into Belmont you have more walking trails and hiking paths. positives to this place in clued a good crowd of kids responsible parents and nice amenities. Downsize would include the unwritten rule dad dogs do not have to be on leashes and occasionally have a large Marmaduke chasing your kids down. Do you also have decent tennis courts but the nets seem to always need to be replaced. Overall though the natural beauty is nice and it feels like you're in the woods but you're actually very close to the city in Belmont. As an added bonus there's a decent fusion Mediterranean Grill right next to the park and they have very good bathroom facilities here and also many covered tables so you can have a birthday party in the park. I take one star away for the occasional wild dog scenario you have when you're walking to the park. very large dogs seem a bit intimidating especially to people with small children. It be nice if the DCR would come down and reign that in every once in a while but other than that it's a great place to go. FYI the playground usually does not have dog issues it's typically more down in the fields.

The Beaver Brook reservation is a true gem nestled in the midst of over-developed, nature-stripped suburbia. Here is a spot perfect for afternoon picnics, for watching the sunset, for letting your pampered pooch roam freely to his hearts content, and for taking early morning strolls. I definitely recommend this spot if you're in need of a quick nature fix. It's a refreshing change of pace from Belmont's suburban scenery and always puts me in a good mood! :D

For the puppies, the stream running through the park and the big field are solid attractions.

The loop was well paved in most areas and there were a couple off trails that were a nice surprise. It was pretty crowded even for a "not so great weather day" so I can imagine how busy it gets on a nice day. Loved how it was a dog friendly place. Most people didn't have their dogs on leash. This is great for families who feel comfortable with it but imagine it could be an issue for others. We will definitely be back!

The surroundings are gorgeous, I especially liked the smaller pond further off (think it's called Little Fresh Pond/Dog Beach on the map), with a peaceful seating area. When I went during the day, I didn't see a ton of other people milling about (lots of doggo's merrily bounding about). The one star off is for the parking situation. I actually tried coming here twice before finally succeeding. The first time, I found the nearby rotaries too daunting and gave up and went home. The second time, we finally conquered the rotaries but pulled into the parking lot right by the park to find resident only signs plastered everywhere. Seriously? No non-resident access even for one day out of the week? So here's a tip. On my third try, I just parked in the nearby Whole Foods lot and walked over. It was about five minutes with a sidewalk but I wasn't a fan of having to cross a super busy road to get into the park. Better than nothing, I guess. I've also heard there's street parking on the south end of the pond but you might need to do some circling.

We walked a bit to the right and there were so many dogs - it must be an unofficial dog park, or happy hour for the dogs. They were all so cute. My friend had come before so he recommend we walk to Wright's Tower since it gives a vast view of the neighboring houses and landscape but also Boston in the far distance. It was a perfect hike of about 45 minutes there, and about an hour back since we did trailblaze a bit. We were following a GPS, but there are colors and signs periodically on the trees to guide you through the trails. I wouldn't say its too scenic, but it is relaxing and the terrain is perfect, with some spots being intermediate level but mostly all of it being beginner or easy. We did see some people on bikes, and others jogging. When we got to the tower, we went inside and climbed the stairs to the top. From there, you can look out in all directions to get some really nice views. It is worth the climb. We plan on eventually going back and trying longer or more challenging trails. But overall I think it's a gem that isn't too far from the city.

I do wish that folks that visit will do better to not litter. Found areas where beer/drink cans were discarded near some of the lakes. Overall, I will continue to visit.
