This is the most beautiful little spot. What a hidden gem in Belmont. There is a little creek, a track and picnic tables you can sit and eat at. There is a park and a splash park too. It's quit and has lots of parking spaces. It's beautiful here. Especially if you come during summer. read more

Great space on the border of Belmont and Waltham! They have open fields to walk your pets also some small trails. The google maps address put us in a smaller parking lot with trails in the woods with a view of some brooks. There's also another side across the street with more paved paths that people can bicycle. They have baseball fields and picnic benches to enjoy the nice weather. read more

This was a neat discovery in this small pocket of town. It was cold as all can be (according to our southern-acclimated blood/skin). My family and I parked, and walked down to find a frozen pond and a small waterfall that poured over into a brook. Unfortunately, it appeared that the ice was THIN... don't even think aobut ice skating on iet. All I could think was that I was thrilled I had my hiking boots on. We walked around the area, while dodging icy spots on the ground, all while breathing the cool, crisp air. This was a great activity to do during our first full day in Boston after a full day of traveling the previous day. Beaverbrook reservation is a nice state park on the border of Waltham and Belmont and it has many amenities. These amenities include a playground for the kids and very nice spray park, a large open field and walkways and paths. And there's also a tennis court. Up the street, more into Belmont you have more walking trails and hiking paths. positives to this place in clued a good crowd of kids responsible parents and nice amenities. Downsize would include the unwritten rule dad dogs do not have to be on leashes and occasionally have a large Marmaduke chasing your kids down. Do you also have decent tennis courts but the nets seem to always need to be replaced. Overall though the natural beauty is nice and it feels like you're in the woods but you're actually very close to the city in Belmont. As an added bonus there's a decent fusion Mediterranean Grill right next to the park and they have very good bathroom facilities here and also many covered tables so you can have a birthday party in the park. I take one star away for the occasional wild dog scenario you have when you're walking to the park. very large dogs seem a bit intimidating especially to people with small children. It be nice if the DCR would come down and reign that in every once in a while but other than that it's a great place to go. FYI the playground usually does not have dog issues it's typically more down in the fields. read more

The Beaver Brook reservation is a true gem nestled in the midst of over-developed, nature-stripped suburbia. Here is a spot perfect for afternoon picnics, for watching the sunset, for letting your pampered pooch roam freely to his hearts content, and for taking early morning strolls. Meh. Two stars for the experience, three because it's an (unofficial) off-leash dog park. I took Woofie here once years ago when I first got him because it was a reasonable drive from my work. I'd never let him off-leash before but he was so excited to play with other dogfriends in the pond that he escaped my grasp, then his retractable leash hit him and he kept running away--nearly onto the busy street nearby. I freaked out, and didn't try training my dog for off-leash time for nearly two years, until he was microchipped. That's more a testament to how little I knew about dog ownership back in the day, but it left the impression on me that Beaver Brook was an okay dog park, but allowed for easy access to busy streets for reckless dogs. After driving by a couple of weeks ago on my way to Waltham, I decided it might be worth a return visit. I brought Woofie (who is now an off-leash hiking champ, and is much less interested in other dogs) here to find a bunch of dogs of all shapes and sizes playing in the main field area. We weren't too interested in socializing, so we wandered the nearby trails. It was okay, but not a super large area to walk around. I'll still to urban hiking at Danehy in Cambridge, or if I feel like driving 30 minutes, I'll hit Elm Bank instead. read more

This Review is is for the section of the reservation south of Trapelo Road only. It is a park mostly great for dogs and kids. If you are into botany you may enjoy this park as well. It is probably not great for running or cycling due to it's size, the many people and their dogs. About the dogs: Most dogs in my experience are well behaved and owners seem to be responsible for their dogs behavior and waste. It's not an official off-leash dog park, but each time I go most dogs are walking or running of leash and it's a place people seem to go to socialize their dogs. If you have a dog that is not social, does not get along with dogs, people or kids it would probably be better to skip this park. Like any dog park every now and then there is an irresponsible owner that brings an aggressive or untrained dog, but this is usually addressed right away by the people that are there. The Rock Meadow Conservation Area is a larger park a bit further north that seems to be more strictly leashed. I give it 5 stars as it has easy parking, it is well maintained (the grass in the summer and snow in the winter), there are benches throughout the park and bins for waste. read more

This place is awesome!!!! Took my daughter here and she loved the playground. They have a splash pad so that will be fun in the summer. My dog loved the open space down the hill from the playground. There were a lot of other dogs there. We hiked around a bit. It's big so we didn't see all of it. Very cool little spot to hang out and walk around. read more

Stopped here after work for a run in the park. Now I've got to preface my review: I don't have kids or a dog. I know, I'm one of THOSE people. But I'm young, give me some time. There's a really cool play fountain for the little monsters, which looks really fun. I kind of wanted to jump in. Downside: driving by I've often seen some scruffy looking characters hanging out on the benches...ermmmm..not so much fun. There's a COPIOUS (good vocab word, huh?) amount of dogs at this park. Think PACKS or HORDES. I suppose, if you were a dog person this would be a bonus. The owners seem to think that everyone wants to play/pet their dog. At one point, I had a few dogs chasing after me. Not cute from the runner's point of view. Also there needs to be a stricter poop policy...I spent a lot of my run swerving around "presents." Bottom line: not for me, but disregard this review if you have a kid or a dog. read more

We used to take over the Pond area in Junior High School for Capture the Flag Games. Honestly, though, we were the only ones there, ever. It seems to be getting more use now, which is great. Can you still grill there? We used to BBQ, all the time. I love the new Spray Park. Back when I was a wee kid, there was a scary wading pool with concrete whales and such. This is so much better. My nieces had a Ball. This is a terrific local park. It may be the best one in the area. You can still find crayfish and salamanders in the brook. We used to catch them. I don't have a dog, but I love visiting with the pooches, but watch for land mines, kids! read more

I absolutely love this place and I just hope to heaven that it stays as great as it currently is! My dogs were too rowdy for the civilized confines of Fresh Pond, and I longed for a place that I could let them run. We started coming here, on leash, and gradually worked up to off leash activities, in large part because of the relaxed attitude of the other dogs and their human companions, which helped me and my dogs relax, too. I am so grateful to have this place available that I often bring my own trash bags and pick up trash, as well as other dogs' poop, just because I want it to be nice for everyone! read more

This park is awesome. The new spray park is large, with lots of small sprays (nothing too scary) surrounded by playground equipment and a restroom (Yay!) There is a babbling brook (a raging stream after this weeks rain) and rolling hils and beautiful big trees and an area for dogs. There are trails too though I haven't tried them out yet. Nice walking trails, beautiful woods, and even a kiddie sprinkler area for the little ones to cool off during the summer.... But best of all? A DOG PARK! This park has a huge open field where all the poochies come to play, and there's a wonderful walking trail that circles the field and continues off into the woods. Today we went, and our dog was greeted by not one, but four other bichons. Hubby and I had a blast talking with the other owners and watching our little fluff-puff frolic with his brethren. Big dogs, little dogs, white dogs, black dogs, they all got along. Not once have we ever encountered an ill-tempered pooch. Ill-tempered people either. Also there's a sign that says not to take you dog off the leash, but no one cares. If your dog is well behaved, go here for off leash roaming. If your dog needs an attitude check, leave him at home and come watch my dog have fun. read more

My wife loves dogs so much that it makes her stupid, but our lease prevents us from adopting. As an expression of my love for her, I've turned into one of those creepy dudes hanging around the dog park even though I don't have a dog. If I were this way with children, someone would taser me. Fortunately, people are a lot less freaked out about strangers in the park trying touch their dogs, take pictures of their dogs, yadda yadda. Anyway, Beaver Brook reservation has some absolutely primo other-people's-dog watching. Last week, I saw a weiner-dog/black lab mix puppy. It melted my heart. For the puppies, the stream running through the park and the big field are solid attractions. There's also a paved path if your owner is rockin rollerblades. read more

This review is of the spray park, not the rest of Beaver Brook which looks lovely. The spray park's one main draw is that it's the first the open in the area. When the mercury starts to climb and metal slides become a bad idea for tiny tushes, Beaver Brook begins to look pretty great. And it is. Before noon on a weekday before school is out for summer. But beware this spray park when the elementary kids get out of school. The whole park is rocks. Rocks that are supposed to get wet and have kids climb on them. Inevitably someone ends up crying or hurt. My kids (3 & 6) love it here. I am just thankful that when we leave the direction we are headed in is not the emergency room. And I am anxiously awaiting the seasonal opening of the other, less slippery, area spray parks. read more

For kids under 7, I think this is one of the best little outings available! It's free, it's easy to get to, there is parking, and the play area is delightful. The sprinkler area is really nice - large, visually interesting, and quite pretty, and there are even lifeguards -- almost strangely, since the water doesn't pool, but it is nice to have them there. Once I needed a band aid for my daughter and they were able to give me some and offered alcohol wipes etc. There is also a little playground with a toddler side and a bigger kids side (though it's still for little ones - not huge climbing structures or anything). The toddler side has a good sized sandbox as well. There is also a pavillion with a few large picnic tables available. And best of all...drumroll... BATHROOMS! There are so few playgrounds with bathrooms. Oh, the happiness for potty-training parents and parents of they-don't-tell-you-they-have-to-go-until-it-is-already-a-dire-emergency children everywhere. I love coming to Beaver Brook in the summer for half days of play. Good for 2-3 hours of fun. Best for kids 6 and under (IMHO). Older children might get bored and/or be turned off by the many toddlers. read more

Fantastic park for kids; there are trails for bikes/runners, an awesome outdoor water park with lots of fountains and sprinklers, a sandbox, swing sets, and two different jungle gyms. However, during the summer it is next to impossible to get a parking spot on the street, so be patient. read more

We love taking our kids to the spray park here or as we like to call it, the "Rock Park". We call it this because the water sprinklers are scattered throughout boulders on a concrete ground. So far I haven't seen anyone hurt from climbing all overs these giant rocks while cooling off, but it seems like an accident waiting to happen. The regular playground at Beaver Brook is nothing special, I wish they'd upgrade this at some point. There's also a tennis court, a baseball field, a stream and nice open fields for play. Beaver Brook really is an un-official dog-park. A lot of owners like to let their dogs run free and with a first taste of freedom they roam around chasing after each other and barking non-stop. This can be a little irritating when your just trying to go for a walk around or have a picnic. I love dogs, but I wish some people were a little more respectful of the rest of us and keep a closer watch on their pets. read more

Love it!!! I heard about this place from a neighbor who suggested it as a place to take my dog off leash - although you're not supposed to. Somehow it's common law. I've been coming here for months and all the dogs are well behaved and the owners are very friendly. Just look out for land mines, I've definitely stepped in a few. In the summer, locals use the grounds for picnics and parties so us dog owners try to keep the little beggars away from the yummy food. It's great having the fresh water for the dogs to drink and splash around in on hot days. Tons and tons of space for dogs to run and not disturb the kick ball or ultimate frisbee games. One of my all time favorite places to spend an afternoon. Not only does my four-legged friend get to tear around with other pups, but the place is a gorgeous place to walk/wander. Resisting the urge to stick to the paved path that circles the park is a gift. Because it is not officially a dog-park, please bring a bag and your common sense. Respect goes a LONG way with these places and those who don't have it can wreck it for others. read more

The spray park is a great place to bring small children in the summer. You may have to walk a fair bit to park on a hot day though, and it's best for ages 6-ish and under. It would be great if there a nearby playground for older kids so you could bring everyone. That said, it's free and I like the spray park a lot. There are also trails and a lot of green space, which I've never been on because the kids wore themselves out at the water park. read more

Awesome dog park! I've been bringing my dog here since he was a puppy. It gives him ample space to run around off leash and play with other dogs. This is also a great place to have picnics in the summer time with shade from trees if you need it. There is also a stream where you can dip your feet in and cool off; it can be dry at times though if there hasn't been much rain. read more

Such a convenient location to get in some decent mountain biking. The trails aren't as extensive as Fells or Lynn Woods but for something right next door you can't complain. Decent uphills to get the heart pumping and single-track. Take the trail all the way back across condo driveway,back into the woods to Our Lady's Church in Waltham / Trapelo Rd. to connect with some more challenging rocky/rooty ascents across Trapelo. read more

What a find Beaver Brook is. It's incredibly dog friendly, with friendly dogs and dog owners, who all seem to understand that it's not really a dog park, but that we have to share with the other folks who are enjoying the picnic tables and the really lovely walks. It's best M-F early in the morning, but the weekends are great too with lots of opportunities to have the dogs enjoy just being a dog... I love it there. read more

Our first time in the area, and was a perfect open space and woodland setting for us and our dog. Great trails, well maintained, and the semi-frozen ponds were filled with ducks and geese. We had the pace to ourselves. Especially enjoyed the old stone foundation overlook below the dam with the close-up view of the spillway. read more

For those of you who came here by searching for off-leash dog parks, please be aware that DCR regulations specify that NO dogs should be off leash in the park! Keep your dog on leash at all times and pick up its waste. As for the park itself, I'm with Daniel J. The trails lead nowhere and the noise is constant. Also, inconsiderate dog owners don't pick up after their dogs. Be careful where you step! Finally, inconsiderate dog owners think they can ignore signs and let their dogs run free. That means you might be facing a fear-agressive dog growling at you with hackles raised while its clueless owner refuses to even put a hand on its collar to restrain it! Then you have to listen to them claim their dog has never bitten anyone... then later on listen to them admitting that their insurance no longer covers their dog because he's bitten too many people -- and then listen to them denying they lied with their first statement! All this on one of the trails which lead nowhere on a day when you just wanted a peaceful outing in a park. It's not a fun time. Not recommended. read more

What an incredible sprinkler park! My kids love it! Great covered area for picnics and a nice playground. Perfect.

One of the best spray parks around. Parking is limited, which helps keep the crowds down. There are some lots but they are on the other side of the park. Great for the under-6 crowd. My kids (1.5 and 2.9) had fun at both the spray park and tossing rocks into the stream in the park itself (which is maybe 100 yards down a path). read more

This splash park & playground was a GREAT find! I was looking for something to do for the morning while watching my two grandsons, ages 3 and 1 1/2, read the reviews and decided to take a chance. I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the splash park and was happy that the playground was right in the same vicinity. It has the right amount of shade & sun and the small rocks for them to climb on in and around the splash park was just perfect. We were there two hours and it seemed like a 1/2 hour. I do not like this park, and, reading other reviews, I scratch my head--did I visit the same place? I think I understand the concept, and I do appreciate the idea. However, this park is nothing more than a couple of mill ponds surrounded by a small network of trails, none of which seems to go ANYWHERE. Walk down a trail, follow it a bit, and then, you reach . . . nothing -- a wall, a bush, a tree stump -- and must turn around in the opposite direction. Also, no matter where you go, you are always very close to the street, at least in view of it, or in the hearing of cars rushing through Belmont, as well as street lights, large buildings, and people's windows. Absolutely no sense of getting away from anything. read more
