During the pandemic we have taken many walks and bike rides here. It's a pretty park although on the smaller side compared say to Wompatuck State Park. It can be busy on weekends though and hence less serene. If you have a dog, bring him! It's a dog friendly place but Fido must be leashed. There are other local dog parks if you want your dog to run free with his friends. This isn't that place. The view along the water is lovely and I've heard that you can go in the water as well as fish. There are about 6 miles or so of terrain to cover. Not a lot but just enough to work up a sweat and burn off some of the pandemic poundage we've gained. This park has been one in a rotation of outdoor spaces where my husband and I are spending free time as a way to get some fresh air and exercise. No permits, no fees! Just show up! Keep yourself moving. Eat less, walk more. read more

I haven't been to this park yet, but I just read a review about off leash dogs. DOGS ARE ALLOWED OFF LEASH HERE WITH A PERMIT FROM THE TOWN OF HINGHAM. If you want to allow your dog off leash, Hingham will provide you with a permit. Its free to apply and they just need proof of vaccines and a homeowners' policy. It's a very quick process. I applied for mine and it was approved within 1 day. I just haven't picked it up yet. I don't plan on walking here off leash too much, but will let my dog off leash if its a quiet morning. Great place to walk,bike,picnic,swim,fish. Trails along the salt marshes on the ocean. On the site of an old Navy ammunition depot! Flat even trails, plenty of parking. No permits or fees needed. Dog friendly. Cool breezes on a hot day. Good time check it out! read more

Bare Cove Park - Historic plaque - Parks Near Me - Hingham, Massachusetts

A nice place for a walk or run, there are easily 6+ miles of trails here to explore. The map at the entrance shows all the options, and the trails are very well marked. There are several connections to local roads on either end of the trail, which is nice to add onto a longer run. The water views are fantastic, and also some nice shaded trails in the woods which are nice on hot summer days. I only wish they had a water fountain here, and "wishful thinking" maybe a bathroom or porta potty... read more

Went here during Phase 3 during covid and there seems to be plenty of space. The trail is paved and super wide which is nice. It's due to be repacked which is the only real negative. They have a few loop trails of varying distances which I appreciated. Part of the trail is a bit along the water and they rest is in the woods. Definitely wear bug spray! read more

Occasionally a runner/ biker or person who dislikes dogs doesn't like it when you have an unleashed dog here, but in my locality, this tends to be the best place to take your dog if you just want to let them have fun. Even other people with their dogs on leash seem to be understanding of people with off leash dogs. They have many ways for you to go if you need to avoid the paved paths, be by the water, and if you're on the side not by the conservatory, you can usually expect a certain level of privacy, too. read more

Love this pretty little gem of a park. Great for short to medium bike rides. It has a lot of paved path plus some dirt paths which I can manage most of on my old lady bike. I can get 10 miles out of here if I loop around all the paths twice. Some hills provide a challenge. Lots of dogs here as well I wouldn't call it a dog park but it's dog friendly for sure. There seems to be a misconception that this park no longer allows dogs, it most certainly does however your dog must be on a leash. While I'm sure this might be an annoyance for some folks, I welcome it. Many times my dog and I have been confronted my either an overly friendly or aggressive dog whose owner is either nowhere in sight or too far away to control their animal. It's unfortunate that the town had to step in and implement leash rules because some dog owners couldn't or wouldn't responsibly control their animals. read more

Most underrated park there is. Don't miss it. Walk on the paved paths or venture off on dirt trails all along the water.

Serene, and with a wide path... and that's about it. The tree-lined asphalt takes you around a few small lakes and waterways, making for a duck sighting or a scampering chipmunk. Or a kid on a trike. Cute. But that's where it ends. It's not as immersive as a more offset park (around every corner, there's a reminder of the nearby condo association, business offices or heavily traveled roadways), nor does it have the natural boundaries for mild-mannered yet not entirely trained dogs you might have in tow, easily found across the street at Stodder's Neck. It's quiet, and mud won't be an issue. Plus, parking is plentiful. Otherwise, it's simply a paved walkway. Huh. read more

This park is a microcosm of why Hingham, MA absolutely sucks. The park clearly says it's NOT a dog park. There are signs posted that all dogs should be on leashes. But this is Hingham, the Land of Entitlement, so of course most people let their dogs run around without leashes. I actually saw a little girl who did have hers leashed and an entitled older woman came along with a dog that had a snap-collar but no leash who ran up to her. The little girl looked scared and uncomfortable but the older woman thought it was adorable. Best part is Hingham does absolutely nothing to enforce the leash rules. Classic. This is a town where people pay two or three times the property tax of others but things like this are the norm. Hingham residents are some of the worst people I've ever encountered and this park sums up why that is. read more

I recently went to Bare Cove park to do a family photo shoot. I had never been before and we were hoping to find some water to fall in the background of the photos. We didn't get close to the water but we did find some nice wooded areas and the photos came out great. That being said, for a park that claims - right on the main sign - it's "not a dog park," it is overrun by dogs and their irresponsible owners. Most we saw were off leashes, which is fine if the dog is trained, but may were not. There were piles of poop everywhere, including on the paved walk way. So disgusting. I was able to avoid stepping in it, but my assistant was not so lucky. Good times. This is a five star park brought down to three because of jerks who don't pick up their dog's crap and let them run off a leash. Don't think I'll be coming back. read more

Great recreation area for walking, running, biking and dogs. The terrain is varied so you can stick to the paved roadways or go on a smaller trail and do some light hiking. If you (or your dog) likes to swim, there are plenty of places to hop in the water. The people I've met here are very friendly and the park feels like a safe place to walk. read more

If you aren't fond of dogs try to avoid you're bound to bump into a dog. However its a very nice place, very calm most of the dogs are off leash. Unfortunately I have a husky so its hard to let him off and play with the other dogs, but the people are very sweet regardless. Used to come here all the time to give my (much faster and more enduring than me) dog a chance to run in the woods, pal with other pups and come back to me on command. No more need to go to Hingham (or spend money on the way there or way back). we wanted to take our dog to a place where he could run around and go swimming. this place was PERFECT. he could run as far as he wanted to (within eye sight) play with other dogs on large bits of land, and swim out far. The ultimate park for a leisurely walk, for all seasons. Not only is there a tarred "roadway", but several trails for the truely nature-loving individual. A great place to take dogs. Expansive fields to throw a ball or a stick. A brook leading into the inlet is usually the common water hole for the pets. Good for kids as well. The park on the east side enterance has expanded to have baseball fields and basketball courts. A word to the wise, I've never met a bad dog. If you know Ceaser Milan from the "Dog Whisperer", you will never have an issue at this park. However, some pet owners are as dumb as the dirt they walk on. They think your pet is evil and theirs are angels. Just be aware of some of these people at this park. I think some of it are the towns people. As for the overall setting, the park is missing an opprtunity for a water station within its borders. Trash cans are a little too sporatic. I find myself holding my empty cup of iced coffee for half the walk because the nearest recepticle is 1/2 mile away. A good mix of sun and shade under the summer sun. In the winter, a cold ocean wind down the inlet is prevelant. Bundle up accordingly. Park officials will occasionally drive around, so make sure you have your dog nearby. Bear Cove is a great place for a daily walk. 3-5 miles can be done in an hour without you even knowing, thanks to the unjulating landscape. I recommend it any day of the week! read more

Not a bad place, but if you aren't a dog lover, this might not be the spot for you, as dogs are everywhere (some on leashes, and others not). The views are very nice down by the waterline and the trails are pretty well maintained, but don't expect views like you can find at nearby Webb Memorial Park and World's End, both of which are on the ocean. Still, not a bad place, and a great one if you have a dog. read more

We take our dog there almost every weekend - he loves to run off leash here. There are always tons of other dogs there and we have never run into an unfriendly dog. The trail is long enough to really tire out your dog and to run/bike. There are also a few areas that are great for swimming. Very clean, everyone cleans up after their dogs. read more

A wonderful place for all ages to walk, jog/run and bicycle. Plus, the new skate park will officially open in the Spring outside the main gate (across from West Hingham rail station, then just past Carlton Fields). There are several miles of paved roads and lots of woodland paths. The views from Indian Point (at the south end of the Park) are well worth the walk. The Weymouth Back River is gorgeous year-round -- stunning at sunrise & sunset -- with lots of water- and songbirds to photograph or sketch. Kayakers typically put-in at nearby Abigail Adams or Stodder's Neck parks. This town-owned wildlife sanctuary is also home to coyote, fox, deer, snake, turkey, hawk, raccoon, heron and egret. In the Spring, the herring run from the Atlantic through the Back River to their spawning grounds at Whitman Pond in Weymouth. Many people enjoy bringing their dogs here for exercise regularly, but this is not a "Dog Park". The general feeling is "There are no bad dogs, only bad owners". Cesar Millan would agree that the Park's dog rules are in place so that everybody can enjoy their outdoor experience on public land. The ACO is in the Park often and enforces the rules. These 484 acres of beautiful waterfront and woods were formerly part of the Hingham Naval Ammunition Depot, an active US Navy installation from 1909 until it closed in 1961. The Navy turned the property over to the Town of Hingham in 1972, and Bare Cove Park opened to the public in '74-'77. Most of the old Depot buildings are gone now. The few remaining ones house the Bare Cove Fire Museum, the South Shore Model Railway Club, the HNAD Memorabilia Display (new last summer) and Boy Scout activities. This was once a great place for well behaved dogs. I was able to ride my bike for miles while my dog happily ran through the woods. Now that only leashed dogs are welcome there's no reason to make the trip. I feel bad for all the local businesses that will miss out on the out of town customers. read more

I have walked in this park several times, and it is great if you have a dog. You can walk them off leash in most areas. The trails are nice and there is some wildlife to be seen, but there is something about it that feels odd - it is very quiet. Two homeless men were murdered in one of the old military bunkers here in 2005, so now the place just seems a bit creepy :O read more

So sick of hingham and how they should actually take care of and enforce there own laws this park is for DOGS to BE KEPT ON LEASH . But most people can't get that and have there dogs off leash so there for everyone is supposed to just take someone's word for it my kids or my dogs won't get bite or attacked. That's NOT okay there should be a dog official there checking and reg police doing the same to protect people and other leashed animals or what about a dog hearing a child playing and thinking that the child's scream is scary even a soft tempered animal can feel threatened and strike out. I should not have to worry about taking a walk in a town park because of dogs off leash. I only complain after this being my 17th time with this issue I pay town taxes hingham get off your ass and use my money to take care of laws you put in place for a reason . And for all you that bring your dog there without a leash one day something is going to happen and your dog is gonna be the one that is blamed not you and that poor dog will suffer because your ignorance . read more

My girlfriend and I were looking for a big dog park to take our puppy and she'd been down here with a friend a few years ago. My first time here was yesterday. It was awesome. Huge open areas, trails through the woods, paved roadways going through the woods...it's got it all. There were a good amount of walkers/joggers, bikers, and dogs an their owners. Everyone we came across was really friendly and the dogs were all great too. Awesome place to bring the dog, tire him out, and let him play with other dogs too. I just can't wait till he gets bigger and finds his swimming legs. We'll definitely be back soon. read more

Great Place. I have taken my son's dog there twice, once on a weekday and once on a Sunday afternoon. The park is huge, with paved roads and packed dirt paths. Not crowded either day. The dog is a year old, shepard/ lab mix and very active, loves to run. I can let him off the leash and not worry what he's getting into. I read the town rules before I went and knew what to do. The town animal control officer drove thru checking the place out. Just downloaded a trail map, lots to explore when I go again. read more

I live in Hingham and have been coming here my entire life. It is a great park but IT IS NOT A DOG PARK. If you're looking for a dog park go down the street to Stodder's Neck, which wasn't a dog park either until it was taken over, much like Bare Cove has been taken over by dog owners. I am an animal lover and have nothing against dogs being present, but if your dog is off leash I do not want it jumping on me or running into me (which has happened to me here frequently). I just want to walk and enjoy my local park and I have just as much a right to it as any dog owner. Wish people would be more courteous and pick up after their dog instead of leaving their crap in the path. read more

Me and my girlfriend are both dog people so we love walking through bear cove park. It has a nice walk that keeps going but we stop when we get to the edge of the water with the benches and just sit there and talk and admire all if the cute animals that are playing. It says it isn't specifically a dog park but most people have them in tow. Great environment, great scenery. There isn't poop every where or actually anywhere that I've ever run into it and I've been to the park at least a dozen times in a just the 2 years we've been going. read more

Terrific place, great if you're bringing your dog but there are plenty of non dog people as well. Lots of paved and unpaved places to explore, we've seen deer and other wildlife on our walks. The dog LOVES it, places to swim and run but their humans can get plenty of exercise as well. Choose Bare Cove over Stodder's Neck in Hingham, prettier and nicer atmosphere. read more
