Squantum Point Park - Parks Near Me - Quincy, Massachusetts

A little on the small side, what it lacks in trails it makes up for in nature & views. Great views of Boston, Marina Bay, the harbor islands and the Boston gas tank. Since most of the place is a salt marsh there are a ton of birds for watching. We saw a bunch of bunnies there too. There is a pier that people were fishing off of and a gigantic empty parking lot that would be perfect for a kid to learn to ride a bike. Or a teenager to learn how to drive. You probably wouldn't want both of those things going on at once though. read more

I came here with my husband and our dog (a dachshund). I was bothered that so many dog owners ignored the dogs need to be leashed rule, and there were many times when dogs came bounding out of nowhere up to my dog- with no owner in sight. My dog has been attacked and lunged at by larger dogs, and she gets very nervous when loose large dogs bound up to her. Besides this off-leash problem, dog owners seem to think that they don't need to clean up their dog's "business", which was everywhere we turned. Between keeping my dog from sniffing other dogs poo, to keeping my dog from becoming a snack for a larger dog, I couldn't enjoy the surroundings or the view. I wouldn't come again, but for people who have dogs who are great off leash, or people who want to bring their kids somewhere with trails it might be fun read more

For this area...it was good. It's all relative I suppose.. It's good for 15 minutes I guess, but it's just really dirty. Like REALLY dirty and filled with trash. But it's a fairly nice and quiet walk along the water. Just try and ignore the massive amount of pollution. read more

It is a tiny park and it doesn't have a good walking flow. My dog knocked his teeth out chasing a ball there and I haven't been back. There was a sudden dip in the dirt and he was hurled into a cement wall. He also peeled the skin off his paws chasing balls there. It is so small there is no hope of sufficient exercise without some ball chasing. Both the dogs tended to come home from there with more ticks than our usual haunts. That said, it has interesting views of Boston, the tidal flats are amazingly extensive during low tide, and there are some interesting remnants from whatever it used to be. It's a nice place for views, but not a good walking park. It may be dangerous for children too. There are some steep drop offs and sharp looking rotting metal structures. read more

I adore this place! I love walking my two dogs on the beach at low tide, and taking them around the walkway in the park itself. Unfortunately, there are a ton of dog ticks in the bushes around the park area, so I try to avoid it during tick season, as my Yorkie always comes home covered. I have never seen him get a deer tick here, though, at least. But that is the reason for the 4 stars rather than 5. If you stick to the beach area or keep your dog leashed so that he/she doesn't get into the bushes during tick season, though, you are good to go! read more

I really like taking my dog here for a walk since it is close to my place. However, lately there seems to be an increase in owners NOT picking up after their dogs. Also, may people let their dogs run around this place. I a few incidents in which other dogs came running up on mine, which she doesn't like. read more

Squantum Point Park is a small park located in Marina Bay. To get there, follow the signs for Victory Road then Public Parking. There's plenty of parking although it's never crowded. There's a lit pier people can walk out on, a few small well-groomed paths, and a couple look-out points facing the Boston skyline. It's located right on the water but there's not enough beach to stroll along it. There's an old sea wall that's rusted and slowly breaking down. As a photographer, it was a very interesting subject. It's a great place for a stroll at sunset or a walk with the pup. read more

This is where apparently everyone in Boston walks their dogs. I have only been here twice but I've met well over twenty dogs so far at this park. Honestly it could be a landfill for all I care, but the fact that there's always dogs makes it an instant 5-star. On a serious note, I think it's a cute park. It's essentially an old aircraft landing strip that takes you to a tiny little pier thing. There's some historical info along the way. The pier is a nice concrete sitting area, which is up against the water at high tide. At low tide there's a little sandy beach. Either way there's a sandbar there so you can walk into the harbor quite a ways. Oh and it's the best place to get a picture of the Rainbow Swash, a national landmark. Parking is free for the first hour. read more

This gorgeous park has been ruined by the DCR leasing out approx. 1/3 of the parking area to a movie company located at Marina Bay to park their huge ugly tractor trailers, house trailers, huge tents to feed their workers. It looks like a very bad industrial park. Must be over 40 tractor trailers that I saw the other day. They are fencing the awful looking area with a mesh covering but the tractor trailers are twice as tall as the fence. This is a major security problem as the entrance to the beautiful inside park dedicated to Squantum Naval Air Base is in the back right corner of this parking area and is now a very narrow path with the fence on the left and trees on the right and no one can be seen while walking on this long path. I can't imagine that this lease is legal. Marina Bay is a residential resort type area with boats and restaurants and Squantum Point Park is a beautiful park. These ugly industrial tractor trailers, house trailers and feeding tents do not belong and should not be allowed to remain here. read more

There is talk that Squantum Point Park in Quincy may be "developed". I noted road equipment and signs there today. Please don't. This is an undiscovered treasure-- a great walking area with paved or gravel trails, no mosquitoes (before dark) little rabbits, and fabulous views. When the white roses are in bloom in the spring along the trail from the parking lot to the paved oval, it is a painter's delight. The fishing pier and odd ferry station (that has never been used for a ferry) are great for picnics and exploration. Drawbacks. The dog people. Some folks pick up dog waste -- but not many. After several days without rain, the paths and trails are loaded. The park needs doggie bags and more than two (generally filled) garbage cans. I have been bitten by two dogs out there and now avoid loose dogs and tell owners of enthusiastic jumpers or lickers to -- "get a leash". I took my small grandchildren there only once. A woman on the point said, "My dog does't like young children". I responded, "put your dog on a leash". She did -- but she and the group were unhappy about my invasion. Something must be done to control this as the park is not designated for dog owners only. BUT -- the park draws flocks of migrating birds and bird watchers. I have never in 10 years - twice a day- seen a fisher cat or coyote. I have seen the remains of lots of beer drinkers who leave their garbage all over the place -especially the point - even though a garbage cans is right there. Please leave this lovely, wild space for us. It is a tribute to Aviatrri, the only one? It has lovely wild flowers. It is beautiful and convenient as there are no other walking parks in the area. Please don't clear it and put in baseball fields, or playgrounds, or hot dog stands, or money making things-- no boat rentals, etc. Put some rules on the dog walkers and leave the historic area alone. read more

Great place to run or ride your bike through when the weather is nice. People often bring their dogs here for playdates, too. :)

Great Dog walking spot. Mostly Dogs off leash, so be prepared. I find the majority of all dogs very well behaved, Take a look at the tides beforehand if your dog loves to swim. They can get pretty muddy at low tide. View is great, people are very friendly, lots of regulars. Never had a tick. Saw coyotes a few times. Tons of bunnies this year. Fisherman tend to come an go. Most folks remember to pick up after their dogs and when they don't the regulars pitch in to keep it clean, Beware of the walk behind Boston Scientific - It is filled with trash left behind by the fisherman. read more

This place is awful now. Garbage (cans, plastic bottles, trash) is everywhere. Surprised that City does poor job to maintain this Park. Very disappointed! read more

I checked out this walk today and despite it being a DCR property with clear signs to leash and pick up after your dog this clearly is not the practice. I have never seen so many loose dogs and dog waste. Such a shame as it has so much potential with the trails, views, and water access. Would not recommend. read more

This review is for squantum park as an unofficial dog park. That being said, this is a great park for dogs who are well trained off leash. It's probably busiest dog wise from 8-11am and 4-5pm. This is a park frequented mostly by friendly marina bay locals. most dogs are off leash and very friendly. I've only had one bad experience with a chow who's owner I have not seen since. The park is basically a large oval, asphalt walking path with a lot of high growth grass and marshy foliage. There are a lot of bird watchers that come through so I imagine it's good for that as well. Some cons would be the random rednecks go duck hunting in the area, as well as the very infrequent fisher cats. The gates open around 7am and close at dark so don't bother coming too early bc you won't be able to get in. Overall it's a beautiful and well maintained park with great views of the Boston skyline and U Mass from the beach area. read more
