I took my car here because I had a car that was always having engine failure, the car would be running and then idle very low and then shut down. I would have to start the engine up again, but after a year of doing this the engine would not start up, got stuck in traffic with a dead car. Had it towed to QualTech on Hwy 71 and they looked at it. When they called me after looking at my car , the tech said the problem was that my distributor cap and spark plugs needed replacing. HMM... I had just had the distributor replaced less than 8 months before. I told the repair guy this and he said that it was poorly installed. Well, I said your repair guys installed it 8 months ago. So you're saying that you did a bad job, he said, he'll look into it. I said, if that's the case I should have it re-installed at no cost. Again, the response was -I'll look into it. I said replace the spark plugs & re-install the distributor at no cost. I had no other problems with my car. I thought the repair would be done the next day, but they were behind and there were other cars ahead of me, so I said they could keep the car while I was out of town for a week. I returned to pick up my car and my charge for the repairs was over $400, I asked what the charge was for, since I was told the cost was going to around $200- $250. They said that I had a windshield wiper repair done, that was an additional $150- ish charge. I said who authorized this, they said my father did. I said why and how did that happen? My dad had repairs done here and since I was out of town, they called his home phone, which I had given them as a contact if there were issues with my car being too long. Some tech called and got a YES from my dad who had no idea that I had NO PROBLEMS with my windshield wipers working, and while not being used for a week - ALL OF SUDDEN they were broken?! Really, sabotaged maybe, but nothing was wrong with for as long as I owned that car, which was over 12 yrs. I think they were not happy with storing my car, even though they were the ones behind in their work orders. So as a storage fee they repaired - or just said they repaired the wipers but did not do a damn thing to them, just to rip me off for another $150 dollars more. Is this a common thing with mechanics in Austin, they don't repair the issue, just charge through the nose for something that will not fix the issue, but mask the issue, just to have the same problem come back and you have to spend more money again. In addition, they find more problems -that were most likely caused from their poor and negligent auto repairs. So you're now paying for TWICE THE AMOUNT OF PROBLEMS, most likely caused by QUALTECH'S MECHANICS - at 3 TIMES THE PRICE of the first repair! How do these auto techs get away with this bullsh**? Every review for Qualtech, must be for simple things, like oil changes and car inspections. If they do any major repairs -they NOT DOING THEM CORRECTLY or JUST NOT DOING THEM AT ALL! This would be the scam here take a really long time to work on your car make the place look like they are really popular with all the ppl waiting around and then just sit back and DON'T do a damn thing. Auto repair is scam racket, these auto mechanics are either stupid as heck, and have no clue how to repair car correctly, or they like getting bad reviews for scamming people out of a ton of money $$$$. PArt 2 After this was done - I had the same problems with my car - low idle and it dying on me. I took it to McSpaddens, and guess what - they said I needed my spark plugs replaced - that they were old and very dirty?! I told McSpaddens that I had just had them replaced at QualTech only 2 months ago. They said REALLY? These look like 5 yr+ old plugs. They said for me to take my car back to QualTech and tell them they need to replace them for real. I took my car back and said they need to replace the plugs with top quality plugs and that I will be taking it back to McSpaddens to check to make sure they were DONE this time!! I have to have other more honest mechanics look over QualTech's work? Is this how it works, until you come across a mechanic that takes pity on you or is ACTUALLY HONEST, YOU are at the MERCY of the mechanic for keeping your car in good working order or just being a person that THEY CAN MILK MONEY FROM until you say that's enough & buy a new car. No wonder you never see any old cars around in Texas, cuz the only ppl that have old cars are the MECHANICS who repair their own cars WELL and CORRECT the FIRST TIME read more

This is my second review for Qualtech....but the first was for their 620 location. Qualtech in Bee Caves continues in their fine tradition of honest, ethical and expedient automotive repair. Our work truck suddenly bit the dust....the rear end needed a huge rebuild and we needed to be back on the road quickly. Within 24 hours they had the work done and has us back on the road. Like most of you, I often loathed taking my car to the mechanic....Many times, you hear about additional or very detailed repairs that are needed...guess what...it isn't often the case. Qualtech proves this time and time again. They do not trump up a list of defects to write a bigger ticket, they do not over charge for the work being done...they tell it like it is. Quick story...I have another vehicle that will likely need a new engine...right now there is a tapping sound and my 10 year old truck sounds like a diesel. Rather than tell me doom and gloom, their crew advised that while I can repair the issue, I'd be well on the way to new motor cost wise. So we agreed to treat the issue and wait it out. ANY other shop would have sold me on the repairs to make a quick buck, and in 9 months, I would than need a new motor anyway and would have spent thousands extra. Not Qualtech....with their guidance, we have a plan, and that plan is saving me 1500.00 which will be spent when the motor quits. Give them a try..you will not be disappointed...I confidently recommend them to everyone I can, because, i have experienced the other side. read more

Qualtech in Bee Cave is wonderful! I've worked with Justin and Mike and they're both excellent at what they do, honest and personable. Have had nothing but great experiences and my last experience was no different. I unfortunately put off getting my state inspection until the end of the month (that it expires) and showed up at Qualtech around the lunchtime hour and was immediately taken care of and the process was quick as well. I know state inspections don't pay much and they obviously had plenty going on the day I went in. Never did they say there would be an unreasonable wait or turn me away AND they got it done quickly. - I am so happy to recommend Qualtech (esp Justin) to everyone on Yelp! read more

I got in my Suburban on Monday and went to back out only to find out my car wouldn't go into gear. They shifter thingy just flopped up and down, it was after hours, Qualtech was closed. I called Mike our automotive Superman and he diagnosed the problem instantly over the phone. I have a pretty handy husband, but we needed this vehicle and had no time to wait on parts. Qualtech got it in the next morning, got the part and had us back on the road by noon. The bill for a the repair was just a small fraction higher than if we had ordered that part and wasted the time doing it ourselves. Very happy with our first experience with QualTech. Asked them to do some unusual work on a truck - new front lift coilovers and a matching rear block lift on a Toyota Tacoma 4x4. I worked with Terry, who was friendly, thorough and provided a very reasonable quote up front. The work was completed when promised, and despite the fact that they took a LOT more time to complete the alignment, the bill was LESS than the quote! The work was all done flawlessly and they are clearly perfectionists because while Terry said they were not perfectly happy with the alignment (which we knew was likely with the new coilovers), when we drove out we thought the truck tracked great with no wandering. We've used other shops in the Bee Cave area, but we will be calling Terry at QualTech first from now on. read more

I declined so they charged me $130 for diagnostic check. Dont go to BMW of Austin! The owner Billy and Curtis at the Bee Cave location took care of me. Checked air filter - didnt need to be replaced and repaired small leak for wiper washers all for less 1/3 the cost. Had heard good things about QualTech on my neighborhood site and wanted to try them out the next time my car went kaput. Well, of course my car decided to take a dump 2 days before school was out! (Be careful what you wish for!) My brake light came on, on the way home from picking up the kids. Didn't want to have it towed to my regular garage because I've been disappointed with that place the last SEVERAL times I went. Anyway, spoke with Terry and he took care of it. Long story short, got it back the next day just after they closed with new rear brakes, rotors and calipers! And all for 1/3 less than that other place! We used this shop for the first year we lived in the area and were pretty happy with customer service and pricing. However, we have had nothing but bad experiences the last few times - so we have taken our business elsewhere. Just over a year ago I had my car in to get an ignition coil replaced. Apparently during replacement they had to remove some engine parts and in doing so I ended up with a crack in my windshield glass. I had to bring this to their attention. They agreed to pay only half of my replacement - likely because I had a small ding in another part of the windshield which wasn't a big deal - so I agreed to pay half and let them replace. Big mistake - they apparently use a low cost auto glass company to do the work which I actually never knew. So now I have a windshield that is just one year old that has developed a strange crack and it has spread across the whole glass. I was told this was the result of improper installation or bad glass. Insurance won't cover due to this. I have a Prius so things can be trickier. Qualtec refused to address the issue - put me in touch with the low cost glass company that also refuses to even look at it. As the company I paid to do this work, (and the company that initially damaged my glass during a repair) - Qualtec needs to take responsibility for addressing this. They chose the glass company and they paid the glass company and we got a defective or improperly installed product. We haven't given up on this - I continue to drive our car with a large crack across the whole front windshield. And since we live so close to Qualtec and have a neighborhood of new residents always asking for auto shop recommendations - we will make sure to warn others that if there are issues - this shop won't stand behind their work or their subcontractors work. read more

The customer service is beyond amazing; not just for an auto shop, but out of any type of business I've been to since moving to Austin. This is the kind of auto shop that I've always been looking for: friendly and trustworthy. I absolutely hate taking my jeep in to get repairs or maintenance...I can never tell if I'm getting ripped off or not. Not until I met Mike Berritto at Qualtec. I brought my jeep in to have a tire replaced and get new rear brakes. To my surprise they got it done on the day I brought it in and while I waited! I brought my 4-year old son with me and we both enjoyed our wait on their awesome leather couches in the waiting area. Even better, they didn't have to replace the tire, they were able to patch it for me! The. Takes were also the best price I got in town. I liked my experience so much, I brought my wife's car in to get her brakes replaced and her AC checked. It was a longer wait but they offered to drive me home and it was still done in the same day! Had to have one of our vehicles serviced and inspected for registration. I called to see if I could get our vehicle in and Justin answered and was very friendly. Justin said he could get the vehicle taken care of same-day, which was great given it was the day before the 4th of July holiday. They took great care of us and held our vehicle over the holiday as we were heading out of town with friends and wouldn't be able to come back to pick it up. Been going to QT for years (620 and Bee Caves. Always thrilled with 620, but BC was not the same service. To be fair, no issues with the work, just service (particularly Adam and Mike) and upcharge pricing. I've had more than 1 incident where BC has inflated prices. Most recently, called about tire installation cost. Adam quoted $200 for install of 4 tires (service only). Called back and Mike quoted north of $120. Getting tired of BC quotes being determined by how much is needed for rent or groceries and not actual cost of service. Went to 620 location for honest service and pricing. I will gladly travel the distance to patronize 620. 620 has always been straightforward with quality work. Bee Cave, our family has given you one too many chances, but you continue to take advantage of us over the years. read more
