Quality Sewing & Vacuum - Hobby Shops Near Me - Tukwila, Washington

I am accustomed to being treated very well at this store. Today I was greeted by a very nice sales representative who offered to carry my sewing machine in for me. She tried to help me with the needle stuck in my 8 month old, $900 Babylock machine but ended up taking it in back to get help fixing it. When she brought it back the needle was out but I was told a new needle couldn't be installed and that I'd need to leave my machine for service which would take 3 weeks because their service department is very busy (no kidding!) When I said that was too long and asked what else could be done the sales associate left and came back with her Manager. He immediately began trying to determine what I had done to cause this problem, including asking me if I'd purchased the machine new. I made it clear this was the first time the needle had been changed, so he then switched tactics, attempting to blame me for not having changed the needle sooner. He was rude and unpleasant and treated me as if I was a child who deserved to be punished. He easily fixed the problem, reiterated what I might have done to cause the problem, then marched off. This 'manager' needs some lessons in how to treat customers- his actions have really changed my opinion of Quality Sewing and Vacuum. read more

The staff were very helpful, friendly, proactive, and knowledgeable. They greeted me as soon as I entered the door, they wanted to know what they could do for me and they asked me questions so they understood what I needed. So they really wanted to know if you got what you were looking for! I was impressed. Their supplies of sewing machines and vacuums was pretty extensive. I was also impressed with the amount of classes that they offer to learn how to sew at any age. It's a large building with a lot of products and plenty of sales people that were knowledgeable and willing to help. I did take my old vacuum cleaner in to have it serviced, and no judgment passed. Stopped by on my way home from work to inquire about three things: Quilting classes (I've wanted to learn for years) Getting my 1973 Singer serviced Wanted to check out a new Janome I've suddenly decided I can't live without I walked in the door and was immediately greeted by an angel named Rachael. She spent an hour with this novice who hasn't sewn for years, walking me through features of the many machines that fit my wanting to learn quilting. Not once did she make me feel like I was wasting her time, and she was constantly interested in helping me achieve my goals. She was funny, knowledgeable, and felt like a partner in my decision making process. There was zero pressure - only great information and a willingness to help. The Janome was priced less in the store than the list price I've seen online, plus they have a one-day sale coming up in 3 days. While I may not make such a large purchase with only 3 days notice, after having met Rachel and having her be so patient and gracious with her time, when the time does come for me to make the purchase and commit to quilting classes, there is absolutely no other place I will purchase this beautiful Janome 6700P! After the Federal Way Store closed I was very disappointed caught between two distant stores Puyallup or Tukwila. I went to Tukwila found that Debbie had transferred to this store. I was glad to see her still! She's great...But the distance and traffic going to Tukwila YUK! So after awhile I tried the Puyallup Store.... My experience was so disappointing I called Corporate. They tried to correct the situation and I was asked to give them another try. Wasn't any better. Never been back. But the Tukwila Store is so much more friendly, helpful and accommodating so it is worth the time and traffic. It's like seeing friends. The young man who has worked there for awhile has become the manager A year ago. He is a very helpful young man...considerate too. Keep up the good work it pays off. read more

I sucked a bag of screws up my vacuum hose and it was no longer sucking. The folks in Tukwila were great. They told me how much it would cost. I was worried it was not fixable. Well, they fixed it and didn't just find screws but also found an unsealed lip balm! HA! It took quicker to fix the vacuum than they thought it would. And really the fact that they were able to fix it was such a surprise. And they helped me find a tool I needed to help deal with little snags in my sweaters! When attending the SewExpo in the mid 2000's, I saw a demo of the Janome 6600p and knew that was the machine I needed. I purchased it with a coordinating table from Quality Sewing and Vacuum without any issues. It was shipped to me the following week and I still use this wonderful machine. Recently I was looking at the Babylock Euphoria cover stitch. Of course I went to their website to purchase and it was shipped to me via UPS and in my home 36 hours later. What an awesome place! This place is tucked in the middle of an industrial area so can be easily missed. I came in to try out some different vacuum models and everyone was so helpful - I got really great feedback and advice on the best option for me! We were looking for a unit that would work on carpet and hardwood, 2 stories with staircase portability, future dog hair, and also long hair. I ended up enjoying the canister option a lot more than i expected, portability and flexibility were great especially since you get to fully test out all the vacuums (ie pulling them to see their full stretch!) It was between miele and sebo but sebo's easily removable brush head makes it a hard contender. Miele definately won in the design sector though... The actual decision will have to come another time but im so glad I have a great local resource to go to for more advice! read more

The phone was answered by Amy, who was very welcoming and encouraged me to bring it in. Upon arriving, I was greeted by Pam, an absolute gem of a human, who spent a good 45min-1hr guiding me through the workings of my machine and checking out the insides. She is an invaluable resource, so patient knowledgeable, and exactly the right person to boost my confidence in acquiring sewing skills. Update - After writing a review about the mechanical and customer service issues related to the purchase of my Bernette B79, I received a call from Peter at Quality Sewing & Vacuum. He seemed genuinely interested in "making things right," even if that meant replacing the machine. After taking the machine to a Bernina dealer in New York State, the machine runs like a champ. He provided a refund to cover the cost of the service fee and gas, time & hassle of taking the machine downstate. I think Quality needs to make sure its sales associates are better trained to handle problems when merchandise is shipped out of state and told to funnel the call to a technician if it is a mechanical problem. read more

If I had patience for quilting, this would be my first choice to check for supplies and advice. This place was always my go-to for machine repair, even purchased. I've bought 2 embroidery machines, 1 serger, and 2 Meile vacuums. The only reason the 4 star isn't 5 is because when I went to pickup my machine from repair they didn't have the embroidery unit with it. So I had to make a second trip the next day to pick it up. From what I understand, this branch of Quality Sewing & Vacuum opened up in Sept of 2014. They have "Get to Know Your Machine" introductory classes for free at this center, which I think is absolutely wonderful! I brought in my vintage Singer 503A (aka the "Rocketeer") and they were able to show me how to use features I had no idea about - especially how to use the different attachment feet and what wonderful things they could do. And when we discovered that my bobbin winder didn't work... I had a 500 series service manual (which is different from the user manual it came with) and the store didn't mind me opening up my machine right then and there and working on it myself. The service department was able to sell me the little replacement part, and I fixed my machine myself! Let me tell you, their support and willingness to let me do it there on the fly tells you a lot about what a good business is about. I am really looking forward to taking more classes at the Tukwila store, and plan on spending more money than my husband wants me to... ;) read more

My 92 year old mom needed to have her older sewing machine looked at. It was no longer stitching correctly. We were greeted by Emily Praye who promptly set up the machine and began performing diagnostics. She respooled a bobbin, changed a needle, adjusted tensions and made sample stitches on her fabric samples until it was perfect. All the while explaining what she was doing to both my mom and me. In the process of moving, I dropped my serger sewing machine and broke the thread spindles and telescoping thread guide on it. Still running, I didn't want to junk it and go buy another, so I called around. Parts are no longer made for my machine, but Emily at Quality Sew & Vac did some digging for me and found a machine identical to mine that had been traded in that was back in their warehouse that they'd planned to use for parts. They sold it to me so that I could have it as a back up and as spare parts for my current machine! Definitely saved my day and a lot of expense in replacing my still running machine. Also, I learned when calling around that the 5 star rated AAA sewing in white center had merged with these guys in Tukwila. I will definitely be coming back for needed repairs and to purchase a new machine when I am ready to make that step. read more

I have an old Hoover vacuum that I took in Oct 12....for $20. All it needed was cleaning ,new belt/bag Lrenzo was great and helped carry the vacuum back to my car. The vacuum wasn't working again.. Took it in Sat Oct 29 ad it needed a new belt...aerator error.:/ Lorenzo took it apart and deduced the problem.:) I offered to pay for the belt and he said don't worry about it. I had a great experience here and they didn't even fix my vacuum! I brought it in and the woman working told me that for the cost to fix it, I may as well just buy a new one for the same price. She let me know that they have a hard time getting parts (it's a Shark) so while they could fix it, I would have to get the parts myself so it might not make sense. She then proceeded to look it over and try to figure out why it wasn't working even though we'd agreed I wouldn't have it fixed there. She checked everything and determined the issue, which was something small, then told me how to fix it myself. It was really helpful, and I especially appreciated that she assisted me so much - and that she was so honest! - even though she wasn't getting my business at the time. read more
