I wish this restaurant were in every city of the world!!! The menu is so fresh and rotates so often, but every dish has been absolutely fantastic. I've stopped going to other restaurants because nothing stacks up to the key lime pie or the octopus or the steak frites. The restaurant is SO cute. This is a Charlottesville eatery that you MUST try. You can get a regular meal or drop in for something sweet to round out the evening. I swung by for a piece of pie and took a gamble on the key lime. Now, having lived in Florida a long time, I can attest that the real key lime is NOT green. In fact, if you see a green slice of key lime pie, hand it back to the server. The slice I got was the right color, consistency, and taste, plus the whipped cream was homemade: 4 stars. What really set my experience apart, and earns that 5th star, was the service and concern of the server. He came over after a few bites to ask if I liked it. He swung back by later to ask about a refill on my water. He swung by a third time to ask what I was reading. He did this while cleaning other tables, sweeping, so it was in the context of his regular work, but he made me feel like a valuable customer, even though I was a first time diner. Food and service 10/10 for our 10+ person party. It's amazing how coordinated, succinct and delicious everything arrived from the one-man wizard in the kitchen for such a large party. Both the squash blossoms and calamari were delicately fried, light and decadent. And the risotto was deep and woodsy yet not heavy. The paella was perfectly cooked and served all of us. And I wish I could have the arugula, walnut and apple salad everyday for the rest of my life. The wine suggestions were spot on and also delicious. What a great find in the Belmont neighborhood of Charlottesville. Just opened 3 months ago and this place has a lot going for it. A changing menu, never know what new recipes they are trying and little tweaks you will find. To the very good coffee from Shenandoah Joe coffee, to the amazing service (shout out to Jillian and Johnny) We tried a number of goodies today and enjoyed everything we tried. They accommodated to our boys (5 and 3) added bacon to the side of a grilled cheese sandwich and put water to dilute the orange juice. Saw we had our hands full so came to our table to take our order instead of us going to the counter and were just the kindest friendliest people and you can tell they are enjoying serving the community. The Avocado Toast was very good as well as the Chicken Breast Biscuit with sriracha butter (yes, butter) it was good (not as spicy as normal sriracha). The apple fritters are amazing, madeleines so yummy and the brownie was filling (we clearly like our baked goods). Has a great atmosphere with old Woolworth stools (yes they are from an old Woolworth, lots of places to plug-in (USB plug-ins as well. This is a place I could easily come and work put the headphones in and get down to business. If I lived local I think I'd easily become a regular, thanks for the great lunch and time at Quality Pie, so happy we came to this establishment it was fantastic. read more

To echo some of the previous comments, it was as though the woman at the counter was extremely irritated at everyone who came in. We were ignored for about 5 minutes (not even a hello) and then when she eventually came over she just said "What do you want?"...not the warmest breakfast environment, but not the end of the world. What was absolutely a killer was the food. Before we get there, let's talk about the menu. There are no paper copies, so you have to rely on the chalk board. The titles on the chalk board were written by someone that cares, but the menu looks like it was written by a rushed child who was intent on making sure no one can understand what they wrote. And, our friendly hostess seemed to be irritated when every customer that came in commented on an inability to read the menu. See the attached picture to see what I mean. Now, onto the food. The place is called Quality Pie, so I figured I'd start with a piece of apple pie. Despite being told it was made earlier that morning (it was only 930 at the time), it came out of the fridge (why would you refrigerate a fresh pie that you expect to sell that day?), but even though it was cold, it totally fell apart on the plate. The crust separated from the filling and it became a pie mess. The hostess/waitress noticed this, attempted to smoosh it back together, and, not thinking I noticed her doing that and failing, decided to try and cover it up with whipped cream. How did the pie taste? It tasted as though it had been dressed with vinegar. Look, I know properly made apple pie has a touch of vinegar in it. But, you should not think you are eating vinegar pie when it's done. Without having a 50-50 ration of heavy whipped cream to pie, it was entirely inedible. Like, bad bad. We also ordered an apple fritter, beignet, at chocolate chip cookie. The cookie had decent flavor but was extremely stale. At least it tasted good. As to the fried treats, there is a special arrogance to serve fritters and beignets cold (items that take 30 seconds to fry fresh). There's a reason no where else serves them cold: it is disgusting. It would be like offering someone McDonald's fries three hours after they were made. Why wouldn't they just fry them fresh for people? My wife also paid $15 (!!!) for what turned out to be the most horrendously made salmon lox meal we have ever had. They basically took a piece of old rye bread, smeared some cheese spread on it, took a handful of undressed (why?) greens, a piece of store bought lox, and a mangled egg and called that a meal. The egg (see attached photo) somehow overcooked the yolk while leaving runny whites. That's bad execution to the point that it would be hard to replicate. But, replicate they did as the woman sitting behind us sent her eggs back to be recooked for the same reason. We spared ourselves from having another interaction with the hostess/waitress and took it home for our dog to eat. Positive: The coffee was quite good, according to my wife. Although, in a first from a breakfast place, they charge you extra for refills. It was as though they wanted to make sure that exactly zero of the experience there was good. On a beautiful saturday morning, it is no surprise that this had to be the only breakfast place in town that was virtually empty. Now we know why. We wasted $29 dollars on poorly executed food, felt uncomfortable the entire time, and left entirely unsatisfied. read more

Tomas is a master. HIs food is unbelievable. I have been eating it for maybe 20years at different restaurants and he never disappoints. A constantly changing menu always with great surprises. There is so much flavor in every dish it is amazing. So much food today tastes like varying degrees of wet cardboard then you come to eat at Quality Pie and you see how good and fresh food can really be. This place is very quaint and can get packed real soon. There is seating on the outside but who wants to sit in the southern heat? Food is amazing. I ordered gazpacho, fried chicken sandwich and the Ruben. It was pretty good. The potato salad was very good too. I had heard excellent things about Quality Pie but was honesty a bit disappointed. First of all, a cappuccino, avocado toast, and cookie ran me $27 including tip. That's a lot more than I was anticipating for breakfast. I will concede there the cookie was fantastic and the bite I tried of a friend's blueberry pie was delightful as well. But the breakfast itself was lackluster. The plating was aesthetically pleasing (see photo) but logistically didn't make much sense. Had the bread been easier to saw through, perhaps I would have been less irritated about not being able to pick up my toast. The egg was unseasoned, the bacon overcooked, and the mozzarella too cold. Bright blue/ turquoise walls with vibrant red seats long tables and bar seats with swivel chairs + a hint of Japanese vibes. Truly a . NEED to go back and try their pies. In terms of price: bit pricey for the size of food and kind of out of range for weekly visits from a college student~But 12/10 recommend to try~ the service is amazing and they are just friendly good ol cville folks who love to talk and get to know you. Whoever took over the Spudnuts building was going to have some big shoes to fill. I drove past Quality Pie daily for weeks, watching the renovations unfold. I was excited enough that I messaged them on Facebook, asking when they would open. And at last it was time. Myself and two friends arrived right at 7am on a weekday, sat at the bar, and familiarized ourselves with the menu. Two of us ordered an egg and cheese biscuit, and the remaining friend ordered a Spanish-style breakfast plate. The biscuits were unique enough to be memorable, and classic enough to be satisfying - along with the killer price point of around $5, including coffee. The Spanish breakfast was disappointingly small and unmemorable. It is at this point we should remember that the primary chef comes from Mas, a fancy tapas bar elsewhere in town. My friend's comment summed things up nicely: "Oh look, it's Mas prices, and Mas portion sizes!" We also tried several items from the pastry display case; they, like the biscuit, were good and economically priced. The place is adorable, really: robin's egg blue and fire engine red decor, along with a generally kitschy and small town feel. It is quite charming. I'm thrilled anytime a restaurant comes along with good weekday breakfast hours. My primary faults are the absolute lack of table seating indoors, and the somewhat disjointed menu without real 'full breakfast' options. I think with some menu tweaks (please keep that classic biscuit around!) and some tables, this place could easily knock it out of the park. We'll be back to try again; you should try too! read more

This is based on only one experience, but I'll probably give them another try and hope to rate them higher. I brought two guests. We all ordered the coffee and pie combo. Our order was taken at the register as we entered, where I also paid (and tipped). The coffee and pie took a bit longer to appear than might have been expected, considering that we were the only customers at that moment. Also, the milk/cream/sugar availability was a bit disorganized. While we were dealing with the coffee-fixings, the server put our pie at a seating counter. Two of the slices were small. The third was downright tiny -- like a single petit four or hors d'oeurve size. Ordinarily, I would have said something to the server or a manager. But I didn't want to fuss about a small thing :-) in front of my guests, so I sat down at the tiny slice and stretched it out to maybe three tiny bites. (Key lime. Not bad, but not really special.) Although I get it that "tapas=tiny portion" applies in some places, a coffee/pie combo offering in a pie shop setting seems to suggest something a little more generous. A full slice. Contrary to the previous reviews, I had a perfectly good experience at Quality Pies. I found the woman behind the counter to be friendly, and the blueberry crumble pie that I bought was delicious! Looking forward to going back at some point and trying some of their breakfast foods. Only giving four stars because the pie crust, as a few of the previous reviews mentioned, is not your typical pie crust. It's not as flaky and is a bit thicker/denser than normal pie crust, but regardless I really enjoyed the piece of pie and the delicious whipped cream that came with it! read more

Really hoping my experience was one off. We ordered some beignets and apple crumble pie. Beignets were ok, obviously not fresh - but it wasn't bad. The apple crumble pie had way too much cinnamon and not enough crumble. It definitely needed the big serving of whipped cream with it. Do yourself a favor and don't get the pie. The worst crust I've had in my life No flake at all to it and ended up tossing all the slices we got to take home. We were not able to sample anything else as it was such a chore to just get the pie slices. This is a do not try from me. And on a side note. This is a fantastic breakfast spot, serving way more than pie! My boyfriend and I shared a few things, all of which were beautiful and delicious - avocado toast piled with perfectly ripe tomatoes and Iberico ham, the egg scramble with chanterelle mushrooms, and the amazing apple fritter for dessert (we should have gotten two instead of sharing one!). I know that all sounds super fancy and maybe even pretentious, but Quality Pie is the opposite of that - very casual, laid back, warm and welcoming, and the prices are reasonable. Staff seemed confused and service was slow. We ordered a slice of pie and two madelines (which required no preparation other than packaging) yet it took 10 minutes for us to get our order. I've always wanted to try this place and it did not disappoint. Inside the ambiance is bright and lovely. There are four pies to choose from by the slice and a couple cake flavors, too. If you're feeling like lunch, they have quiche and sandwiches that looked good. The blueberry crumble did not live up to the quality of the pies but it was pretty scrumptious.
