They failed at every turn…read more Preface- I'm sure the installer will deny this happened the way it did because they maintain they did a great job and went "above and beyond". This is simply not true and you can see from the photos how poor their work is. We are on the third home we've owned together. We've gutted homes, we've installed fireplaces, we've dealt with really hard situations. This is by far the worst install of any product by any company I have ever experienced. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. We hired the Heart Doctor to install a Renaissance 600 fireplace which (by our standards) is pretty hefty, pricy, and kinda fancy. At every stage this install was botched. The company compromised my family's safety by not installing a radiation shield around the chimney pipe and told me I should stuff insulation directly up against the pipe- something the manufacturer expressly told us was a fire hazard. They denied this needed to be fixed until I contacted the fireplace manufacturer and they relented to fix it. This meant uninstalling the entire chimney which at that point was already bracketed into our house, two stories up. Since their fire safety was so lacking I had to request that they bring someone from Embers to supervise the final install. This job was quoted as taking 2 days- it took about 3.5 months. Hearth Doctor repeatedly told my contractor different information that lead to multiple delays. They mis-measured the height of the space needed to install the fireplace. And while they paid for the added work the contractor did, they continued to make tactical, logistical and communication errors that lead to repeated delays, mistakes, and sloppy work. After the contractor built a doghouse off of our home to house the fireplace, they had to rebuild the roof numerous times. Hearth Doctor claimed we didn't need certain vents which were essential to the function of the fireplace. The manufacturer verified we absolutely did. They installed the unit with a broken door and then when they promised to replace the door, just crudely bent the keyhole that allowed it to open. They have no attention to detail, no attention to aesthetics and absolutely no customer service. The final insult was when my contractor was measuring to do finishing work, he realized the whole unit is OFF-LEVEL front to back and side to side by 1/4" in each direction. This makes putting a wall over it almost impossible to look good. All in all they came to our six times between June and September- an absolute disaster. Throughout the process I never received any apologies or accountability from anyone at the company. Rob and Will brushed off my asking for a reduction on the final invoice by saying "Our goal has always been to provide you with a safe, functional, and professional installation, and we've done our best to stand behind our work--even when it meant going above and beyond what was originally contracted." If this is what "above and beyond" looks like then I must need my head readjusted. Happy to share photos to show you what the Hearth Doctor's best work looks like folks- it is just an abomination. This company is a danger to themselves and to others and I feel absolutely compelled to speak out about their work to save others from hiring them. At all costs look elsewhere.

We hired Hearth Doctor to install a Renaissance 600 fireplace--a pricey, complex unit--and they botched it from start to finish. Safety ignored: They skipped a required radiation shield and told me to stuff insulation against the chimney pipe--an outright fire hazard. Only after I contacted the manufacturer did they reluctantly fix it, which meant removing a chimney already mounted two stories up. Timeline blown: A 2-day job dragged into 3.5 months, with constant delays and misinformation to my contractor. Poor workmanship: They mis-measured, forced rebuilds, denied necessary vents (later confirmed essential by the manufacturer), installed the unit with a broken door, then crudely bent the keyhole instead of replacing it. Finally, the fireplace was left visibly off-level, making finishing work nearly impossible. No accountability: Across six visits between June and September, I never received an apology. When I asked for a discount, they brushed me off, insisting they'd provided a "safe, functional, professional installation" that went "above and beyond" If this is their idea of "above and beyond," I shudder to think what "average" looks like. Bottom line: unsafe, sloppy, unprofessional. Save yourself the grief--do not hire this company.

Although they were incredibly busy, Bill took the time to call me and troubleshoot over the phone but ended up sending someone out - within 2 days!!! Problem was diagnosed and remedied in no time.

He did not try to "sell" us a stove, he educated us on the differences, and made a recommendation based upon the stove we were currently using. His son, Kory, came out two days later and took a look at our current stove and chimney layout. He spent nearly an hour looking things over and patiently putting together a couple different quotes for us to ponder. Over the next few days, I emailed Kory with many questions, to which he was receptive and honest, and never tried to pressure us into making a decision. He only provided us with the necessary information to make an informed decision. Once we made our decision, Kory returned ten days later, and professionally installed our new stove. He even moved our old stove into our garage for us. He took the time to touch-up the paint on the stove pipe, and cleaned up every bit of the mess they made, even as minute as it was. I could not be happier with Alternative Heat Source, and highly recommend their sales and service.

After the stove was installed he assisted the Irving tech with the install, and stuck around until the propane was fully functioning. He tested out our stove and showed us how to work the remote and all the features of the stove. I highly recommend their work and professionalism!

    This company's service department communications are ABYSMAL. when you call with an emergency,…read morethere is at least a ten minute delay, and then, the first questions asked by the human who eventually comes on line is the following: "is this an Emergency?" (Yes) "It cannot wait until normal business hours?" (no) "There may be a fee for service outside normal business hours, do you accept the charge?" (steam coming out of ears, since I'm paying full freight for a service contract that covers everything supposedly!!) YES! Then, after taking down all of the information including my account number (which should link to said information...) they ask me about what kind of gas problem I'm having. I replied "this is an oil burner that requires emergency service". Then I have to listen to their idiotic script "Thank you for using the Superior Family of brands ...etc etc.". Ever since the Canadian company Superior gas took over this business, which WAS once upon a time a fantastically well run local family business, it has been an epic disaster. It's a company that seemingly knows all about gas/propane etc. but it is way in over its head when it comes to servicing boilers. STAY AWAY

Then nothing so I called back to double check. They said he forgot an item that was needed for the first time check. So after an hour from the stated time he was supposed to be there. He arrived and was very nice- talked and explained about many things also showed things what to do and etc.
