Richard Varney of Advantage Pest Control in South Portland, ME is the only pest control service who…read morehas ever been able to get rid of the squirrels that had made a nest in the under eave closet of my old house. In the past four years I have had THREE different companies come and charge me a good deal of money (i.e. $750.00; $950.00 and $1500.00 respectively) and did not eradicate the problem at all. The first time was three years ago and the squirrels did stay gone for a while but they were back this Thanksgiving when the last two services were employed and did nothing except take my money. Richard Varney did things differently than any of these other companies and that is why he is the best. What he didn't do was just stick a trap up on the roof and expect the squirrels to waltz in it after a few days but no longer than five . . . Both companies said they would seal the holes so there would be no way the squirrels could get back in and both were wrong - they did. Richard came to my house, every day, for over three weeks before he was sure they were out and gone. He trapped the adults but there were still babies. He is the only one I know that put foam in the holes first . . . and then waited to see if it remained or was pushed out - indicating that there was still activity. He built a rest for a trap on the side of the house, because that was where it was needed. He is also the nicest, kindest man I've met in this business. I was devastated when the previous company allowed a trapped squirrel to die of exposure on my roof during a severe rainstorm. I called and asked them to please come and get it before it died, and they said, "All their technicians had gone home" . . . and it died a horrible, slow death. Richard was just the opposite. As soon as I texted him that there was a squirrel in the trap, he was on his way over. He cares about both his clients and the animals he needs to trap. You will get no better than RICHARD VARNEY and ADVANTAGE PEST CONTROL. They were simply the only ones in over three years and four companies that could actually do the job they promised. I urge you to contact Advantage Pest Control for any of your future needs.

As soon as the first squirrel took the peanut bait, Rich came right back over (in a snow storm!) to collect the little guy. He repeatedly assured me that he would take him to a nice, safe place, just far enough away so that Mr. Squirrel would not be able to move back into my house. Rich then continued to set traps to catch and release the squirrel family until everyone was accounted for. Finally, once the weather improved he was able to seal the hole in our attic. Chip & Dale will need to find a new clubhouse for their shenanigans this year.

Three days later I had to kick them off my property after realizing they literally had no clue what they were doing. I paid $1000 plus bought all materials including a sanding block, should have been a huge red flag that a professional contractor didn't even have something to sand with, his other company is a drywall company. Everything they touched they either broke or left in worst condition than found. On top of what I gave them and the need to pay a "real contractor" to come in and redo/fix their shoddy "work" I also had to pay for things they broke while they were attempting to do the work they said they could do. NO refund or compensation was offered even after admitting to not doing anything properly. The pictures do not even show all the damage they left behind. A complete and total mess that I had to continue to ask the workers to clean up after themselves. All in I was quoted $1500 and will end up paying almost $4000!!! Very expensive life lesson

I really wanted to like this company. I'm so tired of looking for someone reliable. We thought this…read morecompany was THE ONE. I was relieved for possibly two weeks. We need a contractor here for a very long list of projects and we wanted Payless to be the one. But. It took 8 weeks and now we have a basic shed, wooden entrance steps and a back door. See pics. I didn't want to hire him because when we first met him, he was three hours late without contacting us, but my partner wanted to give him a chance. I contacted him after two hours and some errands and he showed up an hour after THAT. NEVER HIRE SOMEONE THIS DISRESPECTFUL. I think my partner learned a lesson. Derek said he had 29 men working for him and that we would have a shed in a day. The men worked two at a time for FIVE HOURS PER WEEK for six weeks. On three separate occasions he had four or more men here, but not even for full work days. That accounts for the other two weeks. He would say they were coming and they didn't. He would say they would be here in the morning and they would arrive two and a half hours dark. Once he told us they were in our driveway. WE were in our driveway. They weren't in sight. Even though I told him I wanted steps, he was somehow stuck on a ramp and wouldn't listen until I yelled. His guys don't speak English, either, so how could I possibly get a good result? We always had to call him to translate from miles away. I did not have 8 weeks to waste on this guy. The floor should have been done by now, insulation, tree damage . . . I had time to do all of that before it got cold but he took 8 weeks on three small projects and I couldn't schedule anything else because he was never truthful about when his men would be here. It's possible that his men lie to him about where they are. I can't think of any other reason why someone would lie like that. Last Saturday, I told him not to come back. Then like a bully, out of the blue, his guys came on Tuesday, as if he's so belligerent that he had to show a DYING woman who's boss. That's right, I have stage 5 cancer and people in my condition live for about 20 months and he knew that I was trying to fix this place for my bf to live in after I'm dead. He set me back by an entire winter. I'm thinking about haunting him after death if I'm allowed. Hopefully there will be better things to do. Below are the photos of the "finished" work that I have to pay someone else to fix. If he were a good person, he would read this and learn where to improve, but all he wants to do is argue.
