On first arrival I thought it was pretty nice. Friendly staff, neat check-on area. However, like others have mentioned, this place has some serious maintenance issues. I took a few photos and uploaded theme here. Overall, it felt dirty and uncared for outside of the lobby. Bathtub wouldn't drain and we asked to have it fixed twice, banged up unrepaired holes in the wall, threadbare comforters, dust around the perimeter of the room. Our inlaws down the hall had the same issues minus the bathtub. Yuck. A little TLC could make visitors feel like they are getting their money's worth. As it is we will never be staying here again. And, just a note, I uploaded photos of the offending mentions above, but Yelp deleted them. Said they weren't pertinent to the review.

Pictures of the mold and filth in our hotel room. Both rooms smelled like a combination of cat urine and weed.

This hotel was one of the dirtiest places I have ever stayed. We rented 3 rooms which were located on the 3rd floor. Immediately after exiting the elevator, we were smacked in the face with an overwhelming stench. Something between rancid armpits and week old weed. The rooms were worse. Freezing, we turned on the heat only to be greeted with the smell of burning cat pee! The bathrooms were filthy! Our shower curtain had brown stains and mold everywhere! Even the air conditioning unit had mold. I actually felt dirty after staying here. Awful.

We meet for dinner on a Thursday night and then participate in an all day meeting on Friday. I have found my entire volunteer effort to be rewarding and am grateful for this modest opportunity to give back to the College that was such a key piece of my long career. I'm happy to make the long trip from Northern Nevada, but there are expenses to consider. In particular, hotel space during the recent Homecoming weekend was both sparse and expensive. I planned for this by making my reservation (almost a year in advance) further away from Iowa City towards Cedar Rapids. At the time, the Hotel with the best combination of proximity (maybe 30 minutes away) and price was this Residence Inn by Marriott. The Hotel was easily accessible off (and on) the 33rd Avenue exit off I-380, with easy parking, and short drives to various dining options. I found the Lobby/Breakfast area to be comfortable and welcoming. The free hot breakfast was also more diverse and interesting than I've come to expect. During my 3-night stay, it was clear that other Hawkeye fans had the same idea, although we were in the minority to the various trades guest who were staying here. My room was very spacious and relaxing. I appreciated the division between bedroom and Livingroom, and a nice Kitchen. The showers were strong and hot, and with good Wi-Fi. My only quibbles were that the Livingroom was a little dark (even when fully lit) and I should have asked for maid service at least once within my 3-day stay. I'll be back in the Iowa City area next April and October. Room availability will probably be easier in Iowa City next Spring, but you just might find me here for the next Homecoming. Go Hawks!

Played in the pool with our grandson in the afternoon. Our server was really friendly for dinner and the food was pretty good. Large grassy lawn for dogs out back. Very dog friendly. Although I would hope they would clean the poop for a $75 pet fee. So disappointing these hotels let us bring our pets and some people don't bother cleaning after their pets. It's so rude to the next dog owner. And to the establishment. I would raise the fee too. But then I would clean up after irresponsible dog owners so the next people don't have to risk stepping in it. Other than that it was the perfect stay. They really make you feel at home.

The HVAC was refreshingly quiet. The hotel lobby has a piped in fragrance that immediately puts you at ease. They have a pool, full service restaurant and a bar. The only thing that was describing was the shower water pressure. It was so bad if I had decided to wash my hair I would not ever have gotten the shampoo out of it. It hurt my heart because everything else was so good and then the final thing we do was epically bad. Hopefully there is a way to fix it for their sake. I did tell them at the front desk as we checked out but it didn't seem to register with the person I told.

Sorry, didn't get names, but I recall they were both south Asian. Housekeeping was great as well, following our wishes to the letter. Rooms were quiet and CLEAN! This clean, complete and well-maintained hotel exceeded expectations for the area at any price, but especially at the AARP special rates we found. Amenities and kind gracious treatment from all staff are noteworthy. Not perfect, as the eggs seemed leftover for days and the coffee half strength at breakfast; we ate out half our days there despite the bargain of its inclusion. Queen beds are the norm, with a slightly higher rate for kings. Also sorry the extensive free gym/sauna/spa will close next year, though. Missed having new editions of The Gazette the last few days, as it stopped on Monday. Still nice to have a print newspaper in this day and age! PLEASE retire the brown, wrinkled fruit and empty stale coffee carafes in the front lobby. We've stayed before, and were grateful to see the standards hadn't slipped in the 7 years since!
