My 1-star review is based on the "mean girls" type behavior of the front desk employees. The staff at this hotel acted unprofessional and immature. While I was sitting in the lobby area just a few feet away, they spent their time gossiping about a former coworker and guests. Listening to them trash-talk someone who used to work and guests who were staying there was uncomfortable and completely inappropriate, especially in front of other guests. Instead of greeting people or paying attention to guests, they were too busy laughing and tearing people down. It was petty, unprofessional, and made the entire hotel feel cheap. Front desk staff set the tone for the whole experience, and this set a very bad one. I would not stay here again because of this behavior. If management cares at all about guest experience, they need to deal with this immediately. read more

Fairly updated room that was clean upon our checkin. Comfortable with the a/c cranked and the shower had exceptional water pressure. As it's during pandemic times, the breakfast area wasn't open, but they did provide bagged breakfast options. Good value and would return if in town again. read more

Clean (for the most part) Inside shower curtain was not clean. Soap in bathroom is now just a sliver. Ok for an overnight stay. Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner in pump bottles in shower. Good location. Typical Holiday Inn buffet breakfast. Staff very nice & accommodating . TV channels very limited. Looks like just an antenna, no cable or dish. TV on the small side. Comfortable beds. A little pricey for the location & the tv situation. read more

Was quite surprised to see reviews going back to 2010. I when I walked in my room I thought that this hotel was pretty new! Must have had a nice remodel and upgrade recently because the decor and furniture seemed to be very modern and fresh. Bed was comfortable and everything seemed clean. TV was a bit small, but certainly not a problem seeing the screen. This hotel does have one MAJOR FLAW! The walls and especially the ceiling are VERY THIN. unfortunately, my upstairs "neighbors" had at least one small child who was bouncing up and down the room until late into the evening. Tried to call the front desk, but the phone did not work! Couldn't get a dial tone. Actually when old school... used the ironing board to pound back on the ceiling (don't judge... I was tired). Rundown and dirty. First two words that come to mind when trying to describe this place, unfortunately. The lobby and rooms look pretty dated, which would be OK if they were clean, but they were most certainly not. Shower was dirty, shower curtains had brown mold on the bottom, the shower didn't drain properly, found spiders in the room, you get the idea. For all that, it should at least be cheap - it was not. One star for the staff, who were actually helpful. You're better off looking pretty much anywhere else in Cedar Rapids. read more

This was a very pleasant surprise. After a very easy check-in, went upstairs and found a very modern room. Ample desk space, a very comfortable bed, great lighting for dim or bright needs, black out shades, superb water pressure, excellent AC and heat, and even a nice palate of colors in the room. Above the headboard is even a very soft night light that isn't even detectable until you get up in the middle of the night and have just that hint of light. Informed hotel clerk at 7:30 am shower had what I hoped was mud all over shower curtain and bed spread. (Not sure) . Surprise nothing was done. At 4:30 pm told night clerk same issues. Clerk said they would have both changed while I went to dinner. Surprise nothing done. If this is how they treat a Sphire member which is their highest frequent guest status. The guest rooms are very swanky and modern! It's kinda unusual to see a HIE's decor like they have, but it was great! I really liked the fact the room was clean, relatively quiet, the a/c worked really well, excellent hot water in the shower, and the towels were quite soft. Let me start off my saying I'm an IHG platinum customer. I spend 125 nights on year on the road in hotels, a road warrior. I've stayed at this HIE over 20 times over the past few years, but see they lost touch with the customer. The bathroom has no soap, none... I thought they forgot so I went down to the desk so I could wash my hands. The kids response at the desk "yeah. We haven't had soap in a while. There's a Hyvee (grocery store down the street)". Are you kidding me?!?! I'm the customer and you're telling me to drive down the street to get soap!!! Likelihood that I ever stay here again, zero! Likelihood I recommend anyone to stay here, ZERO! Very clean hotel with large rooms. Beds are super comfy too. Good breakfast selection with hot and cold choices. Very friendly and attentive staff, never had to go looking for someone when we needed something. Close to everything needed including both local hospitals. Oh! Masks were also provided free of charge if you forgot them. Def a great bonus right now. read more

Not many hotels impress me but this one surprisingly did. We planned a nice weekend getaway to celebrate my son's birthday complete with a concert and hotel stay. My only complaint was the pool was on the cold side but after you get to moving around it warms up. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the rooms were exceptionally clean. Food was your typical hotel breakfast, nothing over the top but no complaints on it either. The staff really is what made the stay the best, so kudos to them! read more

The king sized bed was super comfortable and bathroom was spacious. I enjoy a hot shower as much as the next person, however the water was extremely hot even on the cold setting. This was my first time in Iowa and the location made taking a Lyft to breweries pretty easy and affordable. read more

Room was very clean. Bed was comfortable. Pull out sofa bed was comfortable as well. The one thing that really stinks is that I left my swimsuit hanging behind the bathroom door. I called the hotel within a few hours and was told that the front desk didn't handle that but that they would pass on the message to housekeeping who would then call me back. This was prior to check-in time on the same day we left. I waited, housekeeping never called. I called back again and was told they never found any swimsuit. I realize its my own fault for leaving a very expensive suit behind, but I'm still pretty disappointed that housekeeping stole it when I called right away. I had someone that could go and pick it up the same day as well, so it isn't like I left it sitting there for weeks. I expected more from a Holiday Inn. read more

This is one of the nicer Holiday Inn Express I've stayed out. Staff is friendly and quick. Hotel is nice, clean and well maintained. Safe neighborhood. Free fast stable WiFi. Beds are firm. It's a nice hotel. It is nonsmoking and no pets allowed. There is a $200 fine if pets are brought into the room or if one smokes in the room. Hence, no pets or smoking. From some of the dive places I've stayed at lately this is a refreshing change. read more

I work in this industry for this company and this place showed me why people get so upset with staff and people who fail to do their jobs correctly, when you are spending hard earned money with them...we came down for breakfast at 9:30a.m and there was NOTHING hot out, not even a bagel after 5 minutes myself and a guest go to front desk and inform them there is no food in the Shaffer's she informs us they are working on it, it's now 9:45 the person whom I assume was in charge of pantry walks by and notices everything is out she throws her head back and sighs in disbelief like I can't believe the hotel guests are eating....I then go speak with front desk clerk and she starts stammering and speaking in a manner which expressed how unsure of anything she truly was. This was not True Hospitality, it was a scared young girl who has no business being behind a front desk if she can not articulate and speak to guests. How hard is it to have liquid eggs cooked, it takes 2 minutes...this is one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a holiday inn and then the worker had the audacity to say have a nice day in a very sarcastic tone! I hope anyone reading this review thinks twice before spending any money here. read more

Gross!!! From the carpeted elevator covered with stains to the toilet seat with the stained cover! Yuck! The bed was like sleeping on the floor. Staff was pleasant (that gives them the star). They do offer breakfast in the morning, but choose carefully. Not sure what are the ingredients used to make it.....?? Location is ok. Not overly familiar with the area. read more

Stayed here several times when in cedar rapids on business. Rooms have always been very clean and are the more modern Holiday Inn Express layouts. Staff have also been very help full when i needed them for anything. Plenty of restaurants around the area. read more

The rooms were fairly modern. Location was not super central but close to things. Stayed here for a baseball tournament and I thought the price for the rooms were high. Our room was not ready at 6pm at check in and the front desk person was overworked and could not answer phones and help me at the same time.
