We paid about $100 so the price was great. That's w tax. We stayed one night in room 124. Originally booked a king room but it was upstairs and there is no elevator. We are seniors and I didn't feel like climbing stairs so we moved to a double queen on the first floor. All the king rooms are upstairs so be aware of that. The lobby is dated but ok. Room was very nice. Bathroom was updated and clean. Decent counter space. We could hear creaking upstairs when people walked but thankfully they were quiet. Walls r not super thick as I heard someone's alarm going off at 6:30am. Beds were comfy. They had a giant tv I'd say 55". At least w direct tv. We were not awake long but it was nice. Morning breakfast was a hot breakfast which we were not expecting. Eggs sausage waffles plus good strong coffee and many other choices. Over all for the price it was a pleasant stay. read more

Do yourself a favor and avoid. When we checked in the manager tried charging more than what the room was advertised online and when I asked why the price was different than online or the app he got visibly frustrated, but agreed to match the app price. He also wouldn't let me see a price breakdown until I asked multiple times. It was all very shady and I regret not leaving the moment I arrived to check in. We are headed across country. We had checked the prices online for queen bed room before called. We called while we were on the way and booked the room. The woman on the phone didn't give him any options or ask at all what he needed. So we were given a king bed, which is $10 more for the room than a queen. When we arrived she checked us in. As we stood there someone else was a walk in and the customer had to ask what beds were in the room as well. The room had a mini fridge, a wall ac unit, and well used tub as well. The bed was clean. The internet was free. Clean towels and everything seemed pretty clean. I think I was mostly turned off by the evening staff. They have complimentary breakfast from 6-9. Just as you would imagine a hotel breakfast. Some pastries, cold cereal and juice. We decided to pass on it. read more

We really enjoyed our stay! The staff was exceedingly friendly and accommodating. We were always greeted with a smile. One staff member offered to help me out when my hands were full with my baby. They also have us dish soap so we could wash our baby bottles as we forgot to bring our own. Every time we encountered a member of staff, they always asked how we were and what they could do for us. The room was clean and they were very timely in letting us know we forgot an item in the room. We will likely stay here every time we come to Mitchell. read more

Initially, we were happy with our stay at the Quality Inn in Mitchell, SD. We called ahead to be sure that this was a pet friendly hotel - we were traveling across country to our new home and we have a cat and dog. We called ahead and the front desk advised us that they indeed are pet friendly so we set the GPS and drove straight there for the night. The room was clean and the staff was nice when they checked us in. About two hours after we checked out, a woman from the front desk called with a very angry tone, asking if we had a cat in the room. I said, yes, and asked if there was a problem. I was surprised by the way she had addressed me on the phone - she was clearly angry. She told me that no cats were allowed in the room. I was completely shocked and confused. I explained that we had called ahead and confirmed that the Quality Inn was pet friendly as advertised on their website to which she came back at me with "Yes, that's true but no cats!" This was a completely crazy conversation to me at this point. I told her that pet-friendly means cats and dogs at any hotel and she continued to argue and even talked over me reiterating that cats are not allowed and then I finally said, "Well, what are we all to do about this at this point?" And she told me that she was going to charge our card $200 additional dollars. The rate on the room was only about $90 so I was shocked and I asked her to not do that - that this was not fair. I asked if I could call her back after speaking with my husband who had checked us in while I was unloading the car the night before and she said okay but when he called her minutes later, she told him she had already run our card. This was the worse experience of our entire trip and moving across country is already a big stress. The woman at Quality Inn was completely wrong to have charged us $200 and she could have cared less. She was disrespectful in the way she spoke with me and certainly in the way she handled the situation. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone if they have pets or not, based on how she treated us. There were plenty of other hotels in the area that we could have chosen and I wish we had. Also, the Quality Inn's website has since been updated (probably because of my credit card dispute that is in process) to advise that their pet policy ONLY includes dogs. I'm writing this review for all possible customers to be aware that when they take your credit card they charge you a fee without you knowing ahead of time for anything they feel is damage even if it is not intentional but an accident. Why can't they ask you before charging your card. Plus you don't know it until you get the bill from your credit card which is to late to dispute. My son and family stayed not on a pleasure trip but for his job. It wasn't a beer drinking party, it was a small accident of which the mom wrote a note left explaining sorry. The only thing good about my stay was the friendly lady at the front desk. The room was old, smelly, and dirty. Carpet was soiled and coming up. The ceiling in bathroom room was painted but could clearly see the mold had been painted over. Rust came out of the faucet when we turned it on. I recently stayed at the Choice Hotel in Mitchell, SD. We booked the room through expedia and checked in late Thursday night (September 1st). My girlfriend took a shower that night and I showered in the morning. The issue arose after I took a shower and picked up a towel. I spotted a bunch of blood on a towel and asked my girlfriend if she was bleeding to which she replied no. I went down to the front desk with the complaint and I had to wait for the owner to come in before anything could be resolved. I asked a free hotel room as there was blood on a towel and was disgusting and also a health hazard. The owner came down and discussed the matter with him. We agreed on 50% reimbursement for the room which was fine as I just wanted to get out there. I leave the hotel and 15 minutes later I receive a call from the owner that he grabbed the towel and the blood washed out with solution. He stated if it was dried blood it wouldn't have come out and I quote "should check my girlfriend" implying that she was bleeding and lied to me. I saw myself and my girlfriend and we were both not bleeding. After I left and an agreement was made I received a phone call from the owner advising of no refund and I could come back and check the towel myself. How would I know it was the actual towel itself? I received a dirty towel, was given an agreed upon reimbursement and then I leave and it was taken away. read more

When we arrived front desk lady was only friendly enough to say hi. When checking in another person stopped in asked for a room and she quoted them $10 less for a single bedroom. After inquiries were made I found out I had a king bed, queens were not even an option when I called. The room was musty smelling, edge of bed was soft, breakfast was cold eggs that had watery liquid running off of them. There was yogurt, waffles, apples and oh available also. AWFUL customer service, rude and derogatory comments made by so called MGR.,run down.. out of date.... no one working desk has any idea what they are doing. Over charging guests and don't know how to correct it . We drive over 13 hours and were told our confirmation number and booking number were not valid even though we have email proof. This hotel sucks. We found a pair of crusty jeans in our room. A person who works at the hotel told us that the pool is only for laps only but we saw nothing of the sort on the sign. The only reason they got a 1 star is because that is the lowest I can give. Went to rent a room for the following day in Mitchell South Dakota. The price was listed at $82 which is what made me want to stay there. When I clicked in to rent the room, Walla, the price jumped to $93. Now you might think that was tax added, it was NOT, we had not even got that far. When I called to talk to a manager about it the young lady said it was only here there and she didn't know anything. Seems like a false advertising if you get people to click in by offering a lower price than what the room really is. This was the price listed not only on the website but for other places like priceline and others. So beware of what your paying. They lost this customer and I will find another one that actually charges what they advertise for. read more

We stopped here as a overnight stop during a road trip. There apparently was a shortage of rooms in the area 6/16/2018 and were told only the "deluxe suite" was available, at $175 per night with taxes. As we were exhausted, I took the room, even though it was extreamly hi, especially for the middle of South Dakota. Upon getting to our "Deluxe" room, it was exactly the same as the other 2-queen rooms, except it had a pullout sofa. Deluxe it was not. Clean it also was not. Hair in the sink ant tubs, half used shampoo and conditioner, dirty old looking blankets. And the breakfast was pretty poor, even for "Free continental breakfast". My fault for agreeing to stay in the first hotel we stopped at, they had me, but this should have been no more than a $75 dollar room, and should have been much cleaner. We stayed at the Thunderbird on the way back...much cleaner, cheaper and better breakfast. Will not stay here again. read more

I don't know where to start to be honest. The front desk evening person was nice, but that was about it. Assigned us a room and when we opened the door, there were belongings in it. Went back to the desk and she assigned us one room over. The 2-queen room was very, very small. The rear door of the hotel was propped open and you had to pull it to shut it. All of the rooms windows were painted over with a white paint. I thought it was just dirt or something for privacy, but it was paint. The hotel claims it has been newly renovated, but if it was, it was done poorly. For the price, I was extremely disappointed and will never stay at this facility again. We actually cancelled a reservation on our return trip from Yellowstone. I think I would rather stay in my car. I hope Choice Hotels seriously takes a look at this facility and does something quick. Oh - and don't believe the great photos they post online; the hotel looks nothing like that. read more

Horrible hotel..housekeeper confirmed the mattress was pee soaked but offered only an apology. We were told that since we were already given an online booking discount they would not further discount the room. Apparently if you use a discount it is too much to expect a clean room as well.
