What a gem! They have what are certainly the freshest and best pecans and pecan candy that you can…read morebuy. They've been open for over 60 years in exactly the same spot and Linda Earnest, the owner, is the second generation to work there (but third and fourth are working there, too!). Linda is delightful and is happy to tell you the history of the business. They are an aggregator, meaning they buy pecans from local farms and individuals. The nuts are then sent to their buyer in Pensacola who in turn sells them to shellers who sell them to businesses that sell the nuts or use them in goods such as candies. The buyer takes the best nuts, shells them, and sends them right back to Earnest either raw or in any number of candies. These are "new crop" nuts, meaning they were from the current season (October-February ish). That's different than "this years" nuts which could have been harvested back in January (which is what you'll get from many of the roadside but sellers and supermarkets). So you always want new crop, rather than this year's, when you can get it. They are fresher and far tastier. You can go around back and see the buying and bagging operation. But you really want to go into the store to buy some nuts and nut candies. Everything we tried was delicious. And they also have a large assortment of holiday gifts and packaging. The business is seasonal and is typically open from October until February, or until pecan season is over. Call them or check out their Facebook page for their current hours. Well worth a visit!
