And for good reason. The portions are ginormous and I'm always left satisfied. Last night's sandwich was a beast of a meal. The Viking contained mountains of roast beef (sliced to order) and a heaping helpful of delicious horseradish mayo. Winner winner, roast beef dinner. The sweet potatoes were long and tender. Compared to other SPF's around town, they're run of the mill, but still very good. You can never go wrong with Valhalla Grill. Check 'em out for yourself!

Where once was a Shell gas station/mini mart on the corner of Thomasville Road and 7th Avenue is now a red food trailer serving smoked delights for you to take home. Mr. King cooks up some good ribs, chicken, pulled pork and sausage on that corner and the side options complete the meal but you best save room for some bread pudding too. He told me he has been working on perfecting that bread pudding and I think he has been successful. There's lots of parking and some outdoor seating if you can't wait until you get your food home.

We tried to follow him but it was rare to find the stand open. It has probably been ten years since we last found him open and I have been jonesing for his delicious smoked bbq the whole time! We have had all kinds of different versions of bbq all over the country. They can vary quite a bit and we have never had a bad experience; but King's, now called Drive-Thru BBQ Tally, right here in Tallahassee, is my favorite by far. Thank you to the foodies who alerted us to this location. I am not one to be able to break down the intricacies of ingredients and flavor profiles, I am only able to give a general idea of the taste. His sauce is not a thick tomato based one like most and the meat is not overly rubbed or seasoned but has a good smoke flavor to it. His sauce is the consistency of maple syrup with the color of golden honey. It is sweet and flavorful, which I love. I have never seen bbq sauce like this. We braved a Tallahassee afternoon monsoon today and got soaking wet getting our order and it was worth it. We ordered the DT BBQ Bundle #1, which included 1.5 slabs smoked ribs (I counted 20 bones); 5 smoked chicken leg quarters with thighs and drumsticks separated, and five smoked sausage links, as well as four large sides. We chose baked beans, mac and cheese, cole slaw and potato salad. The sides are great and round out a full meal. The smoked sausages are some of the best I have had anywhere. There is more than enough food for five to ten adults. We will be using this for meals for several days. At less than $50, this is the best meal deal in town, bar none! The menu includes ribs, chicken or sausage dinners, pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches, desserts, and more sides than we named above. Drive-Thru BBQ is at the corner of 7th Avenue and Thomasville Road in Mid-Town. They are open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 8(or until they sell out). Be sure to get there early so you don't miss out. I hope this iteration of Mr. King's BBQ (see dtbbqtally on FB) sticks around for a long time. I don't want to have another unrequited craving for a decade again.

I ordered the garlic butter shrimp plate, the "cracked" (fried) conch plate, and the whole red snapper plate. Each plate comes with hushpuppies and one side; our sides were pigeon peas and rice, seafood rice, and seasoned fries. There aren't any "green veggies" on the menu, but that is ok. Wasn't a problem to add some greenery to our meal when we got home. :o) In any case, we all enjoyed the food. Everything was good; very fresh tasting; good customer service. Also, not sure what type of sauce was served with the plates, but we dipped everything in that sauce - our conch, shrimp, fish, and even the hushpuppies. LOL! It has been a long time since I've had conch. I used to visit relatives in Miami over the summer when I was growing up and they loved conch salad; my cousin also used to make pigeon peas and rice, which I really liked as well. Though there was one small issue with my order, it was immediately corrected when brought to their attention and I was given an apology. I plan to return; next time, I will try the conch salad, the conch fritters, and the calamari.

Very limited outdoor seating taken up by 1-2 students and all their books. So...Don't expect to sit and enjoy once you've got your food, unless you like eating standing up. Right next to a parking lot so sitting on the ground, like on Food Truck Thursdays, also not a thing. Got myself a Combo 2, a large plate of Adobo Chicken on white rice with a lumpia and a soda. If you've never had a lumpia, it's basically an egg roll but better. The wrapping is less doughy and more flavorful but if you see it and say 'egg roll' you won't exactly be wrong since that's how you say egg roll in Spanish. You're welcome, now you can order food and won't starve when stuck somewhere where they only speak Spanish...like Miami. Very large portion for the meal itself. The adobo chicken was tasty but the rice's blandness didn't highlight it but take it away. Would be better if they served it on less rice with a small side salad. Don't remember if that's an option but they do have fried rice, subs, and sandwich things. Check them out!
