The Black Sheep. Don't let my not-well-taken photo fool you. This bad boy was awesome. Think of a gyro, but with naan bread!

Went to Food Truck Thursday with some fellow Yelpers after our previous dinner plans were foiled. *shakes fist* When we got to Lake Ella we all ended up at the same food truck to order, so if that's not a good indicator of enticing food then I don't know what is. I ordered The Black Sheep and it's pretty much exactly like a gyro, but wrapped in naan bread. Let me tell you. I may have small hands, but I promise you this thing was a beast. I had to play the game of "I-Hope-This-Doesn't-Fall-Apart-If-I-Bite-Here". On top of that, their homemade tadziki (Russian version of tzatziki?) coated every bit. I honestly hid behind my napkin for every bite because I got sauce on my face every single time. It was SO good. For someone that eats out as much as I do, I actually eat rather slow and incredibly little. This evening, I managed to eat ever-so-slightly faster than usual, but I ate the entire thing! (Go me!) Side note: I've had this food truck on my radar since a few First Fridays ago. The first and last time I went to go try it they were closing (and I believe ran out of food), so I'm happy I finally got to try it! In my personal opinion, I definitely believe they're worth tracking down for some yummy stuff. Check them out on social media to find out where they'll be next!

The "Viking" and gravy on their crinkle cut fries. AMAZING!!!

AMAZING Food and one of my favorite food trucks. Their "Viking" sandwich with the crinkle cut fries with gravy is what I always get. Simply one of the best food trucks around (in my opinion).

The best things on the menu to me are the Viking, hence the aforementioned heapings of beef, and the poutine.

Located at the corner of Thomasville Rd and East 7th Avenue at the convenience store near Midtown Caboose. We stopped by for a quick afternoon snack, and our tacos were absolutely stacked! We ordered one taco each, and they were loaded all the way up! The service was top notch and they offer cute little outdoor shaded picnic tables so you can save your vehicle upholstery from wearing your meal. Be sure to get them "con todo" with cheese, sour cream, cilantro, onion, street corn, and guacamole salsa. These tacos were a perfect balance of spicy heat and cool freshness. They make everything by scratch daily. ‼‼Holy Frijoles‼‼ it was definitely another praiseworthy food experience! Come Back Tacos... can I get an Amen?

Ordering is done through a tablet, which means simple customizations aren't an option. My friend wanted a cheese quesadilla, but the system forced us to order it with meat at the same price point, which was disappointing. The food took at least 30 minutes to come out, and when it did, my chicken tacos were overly salty and drenched in liquid/grease, making the flour tortilla soggy. My taco meal came with chips and salsa but the salsa appeared to be premade from a jar like Tostitos Chunky Salsa. While I'm glad I gave it a try and respect the effort, the inability to modify orders and the extended wait time make it hard to justify a return visit, especially if you're on lunchtime and have a time constraint.

A wonderful weekly event that brings the community together for great food, music, and friendship!…read more Food Truck Thursdays at Lake Ella Park are always a relaxing time to spend with friends, hanging out under the canopy trees and listening to a local band or musician. With food, there's usually about 8 trucks or so scattered around, with everything from pizza, tacos, and reuben sandwiches to cupcakes and other sweets. Plus, you can take advantage of the businesses in the cottages for sweet ice cream, peanut brittle, and snowballs (which were my personal favorite). Remember to bring a camp chair or blanket, as there is no seating available. Also, if you want, you can bring beer or wine. Finally, you could end up having to park all the way down the street, so you may want to arrive early just in case.

The stage was angled oddly this time so it was not directly facing the majority of the crowd. Also, there was a huge tree right in front of the stage which blocked the view. Parking is a pain typically with any event at Lake Ella. There were 7 food trucks out there this time, which includes Lucy & Leo's cupcakes in an adorable vintage style camper. I bought food from El Criollo and Street Chefs. Friends bought food from Valhalla and Fired Up Pizza. Overall, if the weather is good, this is a relaxing way to spend an evening out.

Where once was a Shell gas station/mini mart on the corner of Thomasville Road and 7th Avenue is now a red food trailer serving smoked delights for you to take home. Mr. King cooks up some good ribs, chicken, pulled pork and sausage on that corner and the side options complete the meal but you best save room for some bread pudding too. He told me he has been working on perfecting that bread pudding and I think he has been successful. There's lots of parking and some outdoor seating if you can't wait until you get your food home.

We tried to follow him but it was rare to find the stand open. It has probably been ten years since we last found him open and I have been jonesing for his delicious smoked bbq the whole time! We have had all kinds of different versions of bbq all over the country. They can vary quite a bit and we have never had a bad experience; but King's, now called Drive-Thru BBQ Tally, right here in Tallahassee, is my favorite by far. Thank you to the foodies who alerted us to this location. I am not one to be able to break down the intricacies of ingredients and flavor profiles, I am only able to give a general idea of the taste. His sauce is not a thick tomato based one like most and the meat is not overly rubbed or seasoned but has a good smoke flavor to it. His sauce is the consistency of maple syrup with the color of golden honey. It is sweet and flavorful, which I love. I have never seen bbq sauce like this. We braved a Tallahassee afternoon monsoon today and got soaking wet getting our order and it was worth it. We ordered the DT BBQ Bundle #1, which included 1.5 slabs smoked ribs (I counted 20 bones); 5 smoked chicken leg quarters with thighs and drumsticks separated, and five smoked sausage links, as well as four large sides. We chose baked beans, mac and cheese, cole slaw and potato salad. The sides are great and round out a full meal. The smoked sausages are some of the best I have had anywhere. There is more than enough food for five to ten adults. We will be using this for meals for several days. At less than $50, this is the best meal deal in town, bar none! The menu includes ribs, chicken or sausage dinners, pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches, desserts, and more sides than we named above. Drive-Thru BBQ is at the corner of 7th Avenue and Thomasville Road in Mid-Town. They are open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 8(or until they sell out). Be sure to get there early so you don't miss out. I hope this iteration of Mr. King's BBQ (see dtbbqtally on FB) sticks around for a long time. I don't want to have another unrequited craving for a decade again.
