A wonderful weekly event that brings the community together for great food, music, and friendship!…read more Food Truck Thursdays at Lake Ella Park are always a relaxing time to spend with friends, hanging out under the canopy trees and listening to a local band or musician. With food, there's usually about 8 trucks or so scattered around, with everything from pizza, tacos, and reuben sandwiches to cupcakes and other sweets. Plus, you can take advantage of the businesses in the cottages for sweet ice cream, peanut brittle, and snowballs (which were my personal favorite). Remember to bring a camp chair or blanket, as there is no seating available. Also, if you want, you can bring beer or wine. Finally, you could end up having to park all the way down the street, so you may want to arrive early just in case.

Yeah, you'll find something familiar to Food Truck Thursdays around the country, hell, maybe around the world. But you won't find Lake Ella, Black Dog, Quarter Moon, Big Easy Snowballs, MoBi, Valhalla, Lucy and Leo's, Jacob's Ladder, The Common Taters & The Turnups, and better yet, the Tallahassee spirit anywhere else but Tallahassee. Flash and glitter not necessary, Food Truck Thursdays is a Tallahassee tradition. Five truckin' stars.

Located at the corner of Thomasville Rd and East 7th Avenue at the convenience store near Midtown Caboose. We stopped by for a quick afternoon snack, and our tacos were absolutely stacked! We ordered one taco each, and they were loaded all the way up! The service was top notch and they offer cute little outdoor shaded picnic tables so you can save your vehicle upholstery from wearing your meal. Be sure to get them "con todo" with cheese, sour cream, cilantro, onion, street corn, and guacamole salsa. These tacos were a perfect balance of spicy heat and cool freshness. They make everything by scratch daily. ‼‼Holy Frijoles‼‼ it was definitely another praiseworthy food experience! Come Back Tacos... can I get an Amen?

Ordering is done through a tablet, which means simple customizations aren't an option. My friend wanted a cheese quesadilla, but the system forced us to order it with meat at the same price point, which was disappointing. The food took at least 30 minutes to come out, and when it did, my chicken tacos were overly salty and drenched in liquid/grease, making the flour tortilla soggy. My taco meal came with chips and salsa but the salsa appeared to be premade from a jar like Tostitos Chunky Salsa. While I'm glad I gave it a try and respect the effort, the inability to modify orders and the extended wait time make it hard to justify a return visit, especially if you're on lunchtime and have a time constraint.

I came upon this heavenly food truck at this most recent First Friday at Railroad Square. I had no…read moreidea what I was missing out on! I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich with baked beans and mac n cheese. Their BBQ sauce was just like I like it. The beans were perfectly sweet. The mac and cheese had the right amount of sauce and totally delicious. And the price was totally reasonable, even below average for a food truck. My husband actually ended up ordering the same foods (pulled chicken, mac n cheese, backed beans) from another nearby food truck, so we got to have a good comparison. I had to wait longer for my food, but it was 100% worth it. Every aspect of the meal was better. I noticed that Off the Chain didn't have a Yelp page of their own, but I went ahead and made one, because the Yelp world was just missing out on good BBQ... I may even say, the best BBQ in Tallahassee. Since this is a food truck, they don't have an exact location. I took a photo of the menu, where they have posted their locations during different days of the week.

I ordered the garlic butter shrimp plate, the "cracked" (fried) conch plate, and the whole red snapper plate. Each plate comes with hushpuppies and one side; our sides were pigeon peas and rice, seafood rice, and seasoned fries. There aren't any "green veggies" on the menu, but that is ok. Wasn't a problem to add some greenery to our meal when we got home. :o) In any case, we all enjoyed the food. Everything was good; very fresh tasting; good customer service. Also, not sure what type of sauce was served with the plates, but we dipped everything in that sauce - our conch, shrimp, fish, and even the hushpuppies. LOL! It has been a long time since I've had conch. I used to visit relatives in Miami over the summer when I was growing up and they loved conch salad; my cousin also used to make pigeon peas and rice, which I really liked as well. Though there was one small issue with my order, it was immediately corrected when brought to their attention and I was given an apology. I plan to return; next time, I will try the conch salad, the conch fritters, and the calamari.
