Looks like a quasi permenant setup here at the State Troopers', I don't know. I just asked my Puerto Rican colleague and he knew right where to go! So no sandwiches, because they were out of pork pedo the pinchos were really flavorful. Loved the beef empanada and for me, tostones tend to be dry crispy bits but these ones were the best I've had in a long long while. Nice mustard mayo ketchup substitute. A very enthusiastic four stars for El Criollo Grill. Last week at Food Truck Thursday, a few of us Yelpers indulged in extremely satisfying meals on wheels from this Puerto Rican food truck. We ordered many different items to get a feel for their style. I went with the classic Cuban sandwich and a side of tostones. The Cuban was decadent. Huge chunks of pork were utterly delicious. The bread had excellent chew and the cheese was melted perfectly. The tostones were thin and crisp. To be honest, they weren't my favorite tostones of all time, but they were still very good. The wait time was about 15 minutes for all of our food. But by the looks of it, most dishes are made to order. We even witnessed a cook using a mortar and pestle to prepare a few items. Best food truck in town imho. I almost always get the Tripleta sandwich with a side of tostones. The tostones are that beautiful crispiness you can't really get at home. The tripleta is great, with some deliciously distinct flavors. I will say personally I'd like it with a little more sauce. I've had friends get and like the mofungo, but i haven't tried it myself. All around great food and generous portions, you can tell they care. Much better than some food trucks where you can tell they are just churning out variations on 1 thing (cough, mac and cheese). read more

I finally got my Cuban today! After craving one all day and being dissapointed with not being able to find the Kubano truck, I finally got my fix. Food truck Thursdays at Lake Ella are a must! Not only was the food good but the music was awesome! I got to eat some yummy Cuban food and watch my two little girls dance around and have fun. What a great way to end my Thursday night. Back to the food. It was flavorful and moist. I would def. Recommend this truck for anyone with a Cuban craving. The portion was even a bit much for me lol I could have gotten away with eating half! Absolutely worst Puerto Rican food you can eat. I should know, I'm Puerto Rican from Puerto Rico. These guys over price their bland food and have no way of pushing out food at a good rate. I am at Tom Brown park and they're parked here for forth of July. Let's start with the food over priced and bland no seasoning worth writing for. The customer service is hideous and the food is disgusting. Puerto Rican Hotdog is .87 cent hotdogs from walmart with sliced kraft cheese rolled in empanada dough. Salty and cheap. The chicken empanada was terrible. No taste all fried dough and no meat. Lastly the alcapurria was the worst. The masa was super bland just seasons with garlic. I would not recommend anyone to this truck unless you want to get robbed. The service is outrageous and super rude and they called me a liar. Buyer Beware of a terrible experience. read more

As bad as the local food is in Tally the one bright spot in town is The Food Truck Scene...they are the ones pumping out the best and most interesting food and at great prices...El Criollo is another one of the good food trucks and they are doing it with Puerto Rican Food...I have to be honest I did not have a clue about what Puerto Rican Food was before my first visit, because my knowledge of anything Puerto Rican pretty much is limited to Jennifer Lopez and Rosie Perez...looking at the menu I quickly gleaned that it is pretty similar to Cuban Food which makes sense since they are both islands in The Caribbean with the main difference being it appeared to have a bit of Creole/Cajun Influence in the dishes ,hence the name El Criollo...looking at the menu I knew I was getting an Empanada and then I told the Chef/Owner make me whatever you would recommend to a first timer to give them a good introduction to Puerto Rican Food....he immediately suggested The Tripleta Sandwich which is a sandwich consisting of ham..pork..ground beef and those fried potato stick thingys you always used to eat a can of as a kid...the sandwich was as good as it sounds and it was served with a Chef's Secret Sauce that was fantastic...could have used another 6 ounces of that stuff....the chicken empanada was obviously homemade as well and it tasted like it as it had fresh dough and was loaded with chicken meat...no complaints about this order at all and the price was very reasonable so I will definitely try some of their other offerings in the future...the only downside is the wait is a little long for the food since it's all homemade and prepared to order and I can imagine on a busy night you could be in for a long wait..owner and the staff are extremely friendly and are good about keeping you updated on the status of your order I have to say...definitely a food truck worth searching out if your looking to broaden your food horizon with a type cuisine you've never had before...an easy 4 star recommendation and another winner on The Tally Food Truck Scene read more

I went to the food truck court (725 S. Bronough St.) which meets every Wednesday for lunch and came across this Puerto Rican food truck. I settled on the tripleta sandwich--roasted pork, ham, and ground beef with potato sticks and a mustard based chef's sauce. I had high hopes, but I found the sandwich to be just okay. The meat was dry and overcooked, and the flavor was lacking. I'd be willing to give this place another shot, but my high expectations were not met in my first go around. read more

This is the absolute best Cuban food in town. I actually love their sandwiches and I purposefully stop and at least twice a month to get my fix. They definitely deserve all of the support of our community and they emphasize on being a diverse entity. Tallahassee does need more diversity and especially in food choices. read more
