Hands down the best Mexican restaurant in Tallahassee! The food is consistently excellent, and the prices are some of the lowest I've seen anywhere. My favorite dish is the quesabirria tacos--they're only $15 here, while many other restaurants charge $25 or more, and these are by far the best I've had. My husband loves the chimichangas and quesadillas, and the carnitas dinner plate is also absolutely amazing. We first discovered this restaurant about two months ago with some friends, and we've already been back at least five more times since then. The food is always delicious, the portions are great, and the service is friendly and attentive. This place has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants, and we highly recommend it! read more

I was pretty impressed with this spot. I met some girlfriends here on a Saturday afternoon in January. It wasn't crowded at all. The margaritas were yummy (2 for 1), with a variety of flavors and our server very sweet, patient and personable. It's your average Mexican joint concerning the ambiance and vibes. However, I feel like I enjoyed it more than say El Jalisco. I definitely would like to go back. It's just not on my side of town so I can't say I'm passing other places to get here when I'm craving Mexican. read more

I've visited this restaurant off and on for several years. They're not on my side of town but I would venture over to their location occasionally to mix things up. Yesterday was my last visit. I went there for dinner on a Thursday evening. It was early and I was the only patron. I ordered the Burrito California with papas con chorizo. It is rolled with chorizo, potatoes, refried beans, rice and guacamole. When my order reached my table it was oozing with sour cream. Thing is, it's not even supposed to come with sour cream. Still, the kitchen decided to PBBBBTTTT a vat of the stuff inside my burrito. Honestly, yuck. Had it been my mistake - that I overlooked it on the menu and didn't order the burrito sans sour cream, I would have eaten it as it came. But this was a kitchen mistake and I sent it back. When my corrected order returned, what I was served was a rice and bean burrito with an essence of chorizo and no guacamole. I guess they were cutting their losses and decided to put just enough chorizo crumbles in the burrito to say it was there. It just miffs me that I'm expected to pay for their mistake. I even apologized for sending it back - why??? Ugg. Fine, I ate it, paid, will never return. read more

We were there for dinner the weekend of FSU graduations and we were very disappointed. Our previous visit was not so busy and it was good but this time service took forever and our four meals came way overcooked and somewhat uneatable. The only highlight was the Choriqueso. My pork chops were paper thin and hard as leather. My wife had a combo of chicken breast she tasted but didn't eat and some overcooked shrimp. There are too many other good Mexican restaurants in Tallahassee and unless Echalee ups their game they may not survive. This was our first visit to this restaurant. We were seated immediately, and service was good at first, but there were a few times when we had to wait for hot sauce, extra salsa, or something else. However, I enjoyed the food. The chicken burrito bowl and chicken fajitas were good. The fajitas are served with rice and beans. I used black beans instead of fried beans. The food was delicious, and their salsa was fresh. Their top shelf margarita was delicious, and I recommend you try it! Overall, I enjoyed this restaurant. Traveled into town & heard from a family member to try them out. It was a Monday night, an hour before closing. Staff welcomed us right in. Our Waiter was very attentative & nice. Drinks were served pretty quickly & the margarita didn't disappoint!! Yummy! There were 5 of us and all were happy with their meals. 2 people asked for something not on the menu & the Cook got it just right. Their street tacos were delicious! Steak was cooked just right. The reviews I read before selecting Echalee are spot on. I was initially a little skeptical of the service, but it got better as the time passed. It seemed there were two waiters for the restaurant and ours seemed a little rushed, but he was also attentive and checked on us frequently. Once we ordered (that delay was all me... the menu is lengthy and choosing was a challenge) our meals arrived quickly. The taco shells were fried to a golden crisp and filled nicely with beef, lettuce, tomato and cheese. The side of black beans and rice was a nice addition to the tacos. The dinner plate of taco, burrito and enchilada was described as "really good!" While inside was pleasantly calm and conducive to conversation, the temperature inside was too cold for this girl! Sooooooo good! Me and the bf were overdue for a date night and to say that we love Mexican food is an understatement. The service was fast, the margaritas were strong, the corona was ice cold and the food was delicious! As soon as we sat down the waiter brought us chips and salsa which were fresh and not greasy and thin like some restaurants. We both ordered the combination platter with a burrito, taco, chalupa and enchilada. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because they gave us 2 enchiladas instead of a burrito. My bf ordered beef and and I got chicken. They actually gave us both one beef and one chicken enchilada which at first I was going to send back because I didn't really want beef but after tasting it I wasn't too upset. Next time I'll make sure I get exactly what I ordered cause I was really looking forward to the burrito with rice and beans. The chalupa also didn't look like a chalupa. They gave us a hard fried tortilla topped with beans, sour cream and lettuce. Not sure what that was supposed to be but it paired well with the enchiladas. I can't speak for what it's like eating at the restaurant, but I sure do love what they're cooking up. We each get an order of street tacos with rice and beans. Decent Mexican joint that's within walking distance from campus. I know I can count on this place for a good lunch so I come by once in awhile. It's actually in the same parking lot of Little Athens Gyro which is another good choice for lunch. It is run by a Mexican family and has some sort of fast food type of setup. I usually order the chicken quesadilla which is very juicy and flavorful. What confuses me a bit is that sometimes my order comes with chips and a small salad but other times it only comes with chips. I never bothered to ask b/c the language barrier. They also have a free salsa bar that's pretty on point. My faves are the orange salsa and pickled jalapeño and veggies. I also tried some of the Mexican drinks once. I thought they were just OK. I haven't had other offerings here but the chicken quesadilla is good enough to keep me coming back! read more

Just got through having the best chile rellenos I have ever had in Tallahassee! And the shrimp street tacos were fresh and delicious, served with onion, cilantro, limes and I asked for the salsa verde which was perfect for these tacos. The choriqueso dip was spicy and full of chorizo. My only little complaint is that the taco salad my friend ordered was a little small for the price, but she said it was delicious. Decided to give this place a try based on Yelp reviews, because it's convenient, and because my husband really likes good Mexican food. There are not many authentic Mexican restaurants in Tallahassee, so I was not expecting much, but for his sake we keep looking. Echalee was a very nice surprise. Everything we had was good, and we both feel that if the quality and service keeps up, we'll be regulars. First of all, our waiter Erasmo (?) was a pro. He treated us like we were in some fancy upscale restaurant in Rome. I'm wondering if he may be the owner. If not, double that guys salary! He was that good. We ordered a lot, thanks to Erasmo (?). The Salsa was great, and the Chips were crisp and toasty warm. My Virgin Margarita on the Rocks was so good I'm tempted to go back just for that! My husband said his Enchiladas was the best he's ever had! We both thought the Tamales were better than any we've had in town. They were moist and very tasty. I ordered the 3 Tacos, the pastor and carnita was perfect. I'll pass on the chicken next time. For some reason, I'm just not a fan of chicken in Tacos. I really really REALLY wanted to love this place. Unfortunately there's just not enough good to keep me coming back. The only reason I ventured to the restaurant was because the Tallahassee Democrat had a story about this place and they RAVED about it. I just didn't think it lived up to the hype at all. The first con is the location. I really dislike that they share a parking lot with McDonalds, and I refuse to park in the sketchy lot in the back (I've seen some weird stuff happen down there); I actively try to avoid the strip as I'm no longer 18. The second con was the food itself. I ordered two hard tacos. The picture on the menu showed the hard shell tacos made from an entirely different type of tortilla. So I felt like that was a little odd. I ordered al pastor as my meat choice. I felt that the meat wasn't fresh as it was chewy and didn't have a lot of flavor. My husband ordered the barbacoa and said the same thing. My toppings included lettuce, cheese, sour cream, salsa, and cilantro. Nothing wrong with the toppings themselves, they seemed fresh. However, the reviewer from the Democrat got limes with his tacos and I definitely did not. Limes would have been very welcome. With your meal you get a side of tortilla chips, which were warm (which was great), but they had a decidedly stale taste to them, and most of our chips were the little crumbles that accrue at the bottom of the bag (not ideal for dipping into queso). Which brings me to the queso: it was nothing fancy. I didn't hate it, but it didn't have a ton of flavor or spice so I felt very "meh" about it. Once you sit you grab your own drink and can visit the salsa bar. I was SO excited about the salsa bar. However, it's shoved into a corner, half of the salsas didn't have tops, and there wasn't any mini plastic cups to put the salsa in. So I sat down without any fun salsas, feeling quite defeated. Lastly: the staff. The young lady who built my tacos was incredibly kind and patient. She was the only one working in the front and was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of people ordering (8). My one complaint about her was she was soft spoken, so I had to ask several times what she was asking me to choose and I felt like I was being rude. Once we sat down an older lady came in (I'm assuming the owner?) And posted herself behind the cash register... yet she didn't check anyone out or help at all. She then had a very loud conversation with three men who stood in the center of the restaurant for a good bit. All around it was a bit odd and I really felt awkward. TL;DR: won't be going back because there was a lack of flavor overall plus the odd location right off the strip. read more

Haven't heard of this place until I tried out the delivery service provided by the Yelp App! I'm scrolling and what not - and I choose Echalee Mexican Grill. I select to have sent to me, "burritos-1 chicken+1 steak; guacamole dip x2 because who likes to share their dip? My bf & I absolutely don't. lol. So, bf arrives at my place - we start getting deep into studying physics (knowing that in 45 mins the food will arrive!).... Study study studying goes by... Learning all that can be learned perfectly... Then, boom the delivery man is here. We bring the food inside. Plate it. And start to eat. I truly can say that the steak burritos are perfectly seasoned and prepared to perfection. The steak was juicy, plumpful and good to taste. I will have to try this place in person sometime! Really yummy! On a side note, the guac dip was slightly on the "hot" side, maybe too many jalapeños - I dunno but the dip was definitely burning my mouth + lips lol. I like this place a lot! Just discovered this place off Monroe and across from AMC theatre. Huarache and arepa were very good! Margaritas were bogo free and tasty too (more lemon flavored than lime which I liked). Not a huge fan of the ham and cheese empanada (a weird empanada but it seemed novel), but it was too greasy. The prices were pretty good too. Flavors were options were different than the regular Mexican places, so I'd definitely recommend it! read more
