I wanted some good barbeque for lunch, so I decided to try Roadside Barbeque recommended by a few coworkers. Roadside Barbeque operates in a parking lot on Orange Ave in Tallahassee, Florida cooking on location on a large charcoal pit and serving food from a small trailer. My first impression when I pulled up was "this is going to be good" judging by the number of customers outside waiting for their orders and by the smell of the smoke coming from the pit. The time to place my order was 10 minutes. I had to wait an additional 15 - 20 minutes for my order to be ready. There were about 4 people inside the trailer, but there seemed to be no sense of urgency in serving the customers. The order taker, who was very friendly, polite and thanked each guest, was also the same person handing out the complete orders, which is ok, but she was sitting the entire time creating the impression that she was not in hurry. The cook manning the pit was working extremely hard. I ordered brisket dinner with two sides; I chose the baked beans, and the macaroni and cheese served with two slices of bread for $25.00 (ouch). I asked for the barbecue sauce to be placed on the side, but the order taker stated they were out of containers to the sauce in. The dinner had 4 slices of thick cut brisket which was mostly fatty, extremely dry, tough, and had NO flavor except for the excessive amount of sauce sitting on top of two slices of white bread. I'm assuming the extra sauce on the meat was an attempt to cover up the dryness of the meat and to add flavor. To sum it up, two slices of brisket were nothing but fat making them uneatable, and two slices of brisket were dry as if they had been sitting for an extended period resulting in the brisket not being enjoyable. The macaroni and cheese were dry, flavorless, and not cheesy. The baked beans tasted like bean poured right out ot the can with a touch of sugar for sweetness added. I don't mind spending my money supporting small minority businesses, but for $25.00 I expected a better and higher quality meal. I did not go back to ask for a refund, and I will take this one as a meal loss. I may even return in the future to give them another try and maybe try something different from the menu. I normally dine at the chain barbeque restaurants like Sonny's Barbecue, etc. because they normally have a refund or product replacement policy the quality or taste of the food is not up to standards.

They have partnered with Red Eye Cofee, a local coffee house, to offer a Breakfast Club. Each week they pick a different location to bring fresh cooked goodness and wonderful beverages to your door. Place your order by Wednesday and it will be delivered to your door on Friday. And if you are not in their neighborhood that they will be serving that week, have no fear: you can place an order to pick it up! We ordered the Hakuna Frittata filled with meat, some cinnamon rolls filled with bacon, and a jug of cold brew. It showed up right on time and they have amazing customer service: you can track them online via the link in email, and they will text/call you when they have delivered! Perfect! Everything is pre-cooked and just needs to be heated (20 min for frittata, 10 for cinnamon roll). And everything heated up perfectly...just like we were being served fresh from initial cooking. The frittata was amazing, and can easily serve 4. The cinnamon rolls can also serve 2 each (but you almost certainly want your own) and were warm and gooey. The coffee was the outstanding Red Eye cold brew. For a little over $30 we had breakfast delivered that will feed us for two mornings. Theses guys were a little behind when I got there but they quickly recovered. My cheese steak was a little tough but aren't they all thou. The seasonings were there but just missing something. I know heat, spice, fire, or to me flavor. I just require some heat some head sweating fire on your tongue and the back of your throat. Thank you to the foodies who alerted us to this location. I am not one to be able to break down the intricacies of ingredients and flavor profiles, I am only able to give a general idea of the taste. His sauce is not a thick tomato based one like most and the meat is not overly rubbed or seasoned but has a good smoke flavor to it. His sauce is the consistency of maple syrup with the color of golden honey. It is sweet and flavorful, which I love. I have never seen bbq sauce like this. We braved a Tallahassee afternoon monsoon today and got soaking wet getting our order and it was worth it. We ordered the DT BBQ Bundle #1, which included 1.5 slabs smoked ribs (I counted 20 bones); 5 smoked chicken leg quarters with thighs and drumsticks separated, and five smoked sausage links, as well as four large sides. We chose baked beans, mac and cheese, cole slaw and potato salad. The sides are great and round out a full meal. The smoked sausages are some of the best I have had anywhere. There is more than enough food for five to ten adults. We will be using this for meals for several days. At less than $50, this is the best meal deal in town, bar none! The menu includes ribs, chicken or sausage dinners, pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches, desserts, and more sides than we named above. Drive-Thru BBQ is at the corner of 7th Avenue and Thomasville Road in Mid-Town. They are open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 8(or until they sell out). Be sure to get there early so you don't miss out. I hope this iteration of Mr. King's BBQ (see dtbbqtally on FB) sticks around for a long time. The Schnitzel is one of my favorites. The quality and quantity are great for the price. The owners are really nice people and are putting a lot of effort and attention into the food they serve.
