The older lady waitress with strong accent was snappy and sarcastic with another customer, he hadn't heard what she said. This then drew our attention to her, it wasn't busy but she was chasing her a..e off for no reason, it appeared she was stressed, but don't understand why, maybe a good reason unknown to us. The steak pie was not hot, had it been chicken I would have returned it, chips iffy. We've used this establishment years before and it must have been fine then or we would have dismissed it. I hopped on Yelp yesterday to find a recommendation for a fish & chip joint near the seafront that wasn't Harry Ramsdens, and this came up as first in the list. Being nearby, I popped in (after a slightly misleading map location) and as there were a few items listed on the A-board outside, I decided to ask for a childrens menu as I tend to eat smaller portions. I stepped inside, it was dark for a restaurant that had the span of the whole corner lot, and it was peppered with handwritten notices. Some of the notices were for how many people allowed inside to order which seemed to contradict itself, and a big one near the cash register that commanded people leave as soon as they pay to wait outside for their order - where there is no seating and it is a very busy street corner. There was one man behind the counter who immediately glared at me when I stepped in, then averted his eyes silently when I looked at him to speak. "Hi there! Do you have a children's menu I could look at please?" "A what?" "A children's menu, for smaller portions?" "No. Full size only!" The glare was turned back to me. "Ok, thank you anyway." I left feeling like I'd asked a silly question. I ordered fish and chips, I received 2 chips without a fish. I called the restaurant and I had a cold woman on the line who pretended not to hear my voice and was just trying to end the call, she offered me to send a re-order to my house, I said how long does it take she didn't confirm it will be soon, so I will have to wait at least for another 30 minutes in the process again, so instead of them realising their bad service in sending me incomplete order they tried to make themselves offering a compensation here. The other thing they offered me a refund through justeat and not to take the payment like it matters if I get a refund. I will never order from this poor place again read more

Although I'm a Brit I live abroad so I do that get much fish and chips. All.Was hot and good quality. I chose regular size haddock, fish was very good but portion size would disappoint more than 1. Depends on. Your appetite and in general we eat FAR too much food. Mushy peas rates well, not powdery as often the case. Price is more or.less double take away prices, but you're warm and sat down. As a restaurant it scores low as there is very little for those not wanting f&c. £13 for two people, 1 haddock and 1 jacket potato no drinks. We stopped here after spending the day hiking the Seven Sisters. Our guide book recommended this place but now we think it may have been kidding. The food was good, we all got fish and chips but it wasn't anything you couldn't get at a pub. Really the rating is due to the service. The waitress was pretty rude. After bringing our main dishes, she left again so we caught her attention to ask after the sides we ordered. She laughed at us and rolled her eyes as she exclaimed 'they're coming!'. She made sure to set the sides down with great emphasis when she came back. We also asked for a water refill and she brought two glasses for the four people at the table. I have been to this sit down fish and chip joint twice after walking the 20 miles along the South Downs Way to Eastbourne from Southease. On the first occasion I arrived here after going into a couple of other establishments, having a look around and a bit of a sniff and then deciding my stomach deserved better - trust me not easy to find a decent fish supper in Eastbourne. However, in my opinion this is the real deal and is just the thing when you are hungry and cold after a long tramp. Its old school with no frills, think sliced "Mothers Pride", and in some ways all the better for it. Good fresh fish the size of a whale, crispy batter and a pile of decent chips I can never finish. Squeezy bottles of tomato ketchup and tartare sauce by the sachet. Cold Carling is available on tap with some other stuff by the can. I turned up with seven hungry walkers at around 7.30pm on Saturday evening dirty and damp, we got seated with no fuss or bother and 15 minutes later we were demolishing our fish suppers - quality. I'm guessing that the punters are tourists in the main and the place has that slightly tired seaside town vibe about it. However, this is my top choice if you need feeding after a day on the Downs and has the added bonus of being a couple of minutes from the station and the train back to town. read more

I love this place, it's an Eastbourne institution! Qualisea is a traditional full service fish and chip restaurant with a takeaway counter. The restaurant has a licenced bar if you fancy a pint with your meal, bizzarely it has a tiled roof despite being indoors. It has a very old fashioned feel to it (no credit cards accepted) but this adds to the charm in my view. Its always spotlessly clean and the service is always efficient and friendly, even when the place is busy. I get the impression most of the staff have been doing this a while and it shows. The food is traditional seaside fare, battered fish and chips, scampi, mushy peas, beans etc. They also serve old school desserts such as peaches and ice cream and black forest gâteau. This is my first choice for sit down fish and chips in Eastbourne. A classic! read more

Couldn't let the waitress know as she didn't ask us if the meal was ok when we were eating... The missing curry sauce was removed from the bill without question and the floor manager apologised... Fish and chips, mushy peas and bread & butter. What more does anyone want at the seaside? We found this traditional cafe on an overnight visit to Eastbourne in late December. The service was friendly and the food freshly cooked to order. Try not to arrive too late in the evening though as it closes at 9pm. read more

Great fish and chips if a little expensive but, i think, worth it. Don't like the resturaunt itself - it's always very busy and not at all a relaxing environment to enjoy a meal but that's just my personal opinion. This is a great place to get fresh and fast food (fish and chips) right in the centre of town. This brings parking problems with the new on street parking charges. You can eat in a large restaurant or take way to your home or if the weather holds take away to the seafront. Fab! read more

This place used to be great but over recent years it has down hill rapidly, the food has gone from great to average (at best) and on my last visit I was amazed at how rude the staff were to some customers, I won't be going back their again. Bad phone Customer service I ordered my food at 6:10 and she said that it my take upto an hour so 7:20 no food so I rang to see what's happening she started giving me attitude saying I told you it will be over an hour so I said ok so 7:50 turns up with not what I ordered so the delivery driver took back to the shop to sort it out then I get a call from the shop again giving me attitude and being rude because I told the driver it's nearly been two hours read more

Doesn't say much for Eastbourne if this is the best it can do on trad English food. Soggy chips and fish floppy from low temperature oil do not a good fish 'n chip make. I've visited the UK twice and come here each time on the advice of some hiking website that recommended it for fish and chips. Last year I came here during the summer and got the cod and chips to go and took them outside to eat them but I didn't know you were supposed to salt the fish and chips so I ate one bite and thought they were bland and disgusting and then the seagulls attacked me so I ran away and then the seagulls tore through the wrapping paper and french fries got everywhere, and this old lady sitting nearby gave me a dirty look, so I summoned up all of my courage and returned and chased the seagulls away but then the fish and french fries were all over the ground so I had to throw them out so I didn't get to eat very much of it. Today when I went back it was cold out so I ate in and salted the fish and french fries very liberally and they were DIVINE. Also today I got the haddock instead of the cod, so maybe the cod just sucks. read more

After a meal with our 2 grandchildren , I went to pay [ I had already worked out the cost , so knew what it should have been ] .The waitress had a hand written bill , and had overcharged me by £7:OO , I said that cannot be right , she replied it is , she added it again , same again , I said it is not right and told her what it should be , she became very aggressive and was pacing up and down like a tiger she was shouting I have been here 20 years etc etc . I told her she was not there last time we were there , by this time she had changed to a purple colour and was shouting ,. All of a sudden she stopped and said I know what I have done and amended the bill lo and behold £7 less , absolutely no apology , it developed into an argument .She knew exactly what she was doing , and got so annoyed because she had been caught out .Trying to overcharge for watery low grade cod , [chips were ok ] . Why don't they bring the bill to the table like every other restaurant , then you know what you are paying for , they do not show you the bill , why a hand written bill in this day and age , I think Trading Standards would be interested here .
