Seasides and fish and chips usually go hand in hand. Unfortunately, Brighton seems to have more than it's fair share of terrible fish and chip shops. There's ones near the sea-front I wouldn't dream of stepping in, let alone ordering from, the smell of bleach is so over-powering. Luckily, Bankers is one of the few fish and chip shops that seem to be consistently good. Sometimes, even very good. It sells small, medium and large cod, haddock, plaice, scampi, calamari and fish cakes. If you're ordering from the take-away, they have a permanent special offer of haddock and chips for £4.99 and there's a constant stream of customers from lunch-time til closing time. If you're worried how long the fish has been sat there though, here's a tip - ask for one lightly fried and they'll cook you one fresh. The restaurant is okay but I'd recommend heading to the beach with your fish and chips in paper. They'll taste much better when you're looking at the ocean.

Seaside location in Brighton. The service was a little slow and it was not crowded but the fish and chips were good. I ordered the large portion of cod and chips. Fish was flaky, not overcooked and the batter was crisp. They serve it with sliced bread in case you want to make a sandwich out of it which my husband did. Our table ordered the calamari which was huge and looked a bit greasy. I definitely recommend the fish and chips though.

The tables are laid with place mats and food is served in seventies stainless steel serving trays. A new pine bar has been installed in the last couple of years which admittedly brings this section of the restaurant into the 80's. Aside from the decor (which I actually like I hasten to add) the food is absoultely fantastic and so much cheaper that some more pretentious fish restaurants in the town. A full shellfish platter for two (including a whole lobster and a whole crab) is around £45. And it is delicious. Or you can go for the more traditional fish and chips. If you have room after there is a wide selection of (really old fashioned) deserts. The staff are lovely and make you feel so welcome. The views out to the sea are unrivaled. Definitely earns it's 5 stars in my book !

And in our…read morecase this was the second choice as the first restaurant we wanted was fully booked, but honestly, I don't mind and I am glad the first place was book as this restaurant was excellent. The layout is a bit dated but don't let that fool you, with a view of the beach across the street this is a lovely place to have dinner. My girlfriend and I both had grilled fish options. I went with the Salmon and she had the Sea Bass. Both were delicious, although hers was looking up at her with sad dead eyes. We also had some shrimp as an appetizer that was excellent. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is that we went in August of 2020 (the era of COVID) and the waitress and others working at the restaurant were not properly wearing masks. The waitress had one on, that she would pull down when talking to us so as to be heard better. Making the mask pointless
