Cod +chips!
Dana S.

Honestly the best fish and chips I've ever had in the U.K.! My very first time in Brighton and it honestly was the best thing to eat! It tastes so fresh and it wasn't soggy like others I've had! Plus they give you loads of chips! Loved it and can't wait to be back!

I was rather disappointed with this fish and chips restaurant, I had intended to go the day before my birthday but they were closed at 2:30pm (We asked around and people said places close at any point if they don't get lots of customers!) So I tried again on my 21st. I should have gone to Wetherspoons instead! They seated everyone (Not in the same party!) along the same row of windows to the left of the building, yet the rest of the tables were deserted. So we could not have private conversations, or eat in peace. The waitress seemed new at her job, she was very reserved and didn't seem to understand us very well when taking our order. She was also pacing up and down the row of customers like an army general. We weren't able to settle and enjoy our meal! My fiancé liked the fish, but I only ate a few of my chips. They were a bit too undercooked and hard on the inside. None of the staff said happy birthday, even though I was geared up with the hat, sash and balloon. We were lucky to be seated next to a really pleasant Australian couple that bothered to give me their wishes!

The restaurant has been renamed to Bad Boys so if you're looking for Buddies and see Bad Boys it's…read morethe same restaurant! I am currently sitting in the restaurant eating Fish and Chips as a I write this. The fish is so crispy but so fresh on the inside and the french fries are perfect. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great spot to just grab some quick food. We were the only Americans in the restaurant, the rest of the guests seemed to be locals so that must be a good sign. Waitstaff was incredibly nice and the food came out very fast. Would come again!

Buddies is open all night. I'll just let that sink in: all night. You cannot review Buddies like…read moreother restaurants: it is literally open all night. You can walk in off the street at 3 in the morning, order mussels in a garlic and cream sauce, and finish that bottle of Pinot as the sun comes up: a unforgettable experience for so many reasons. The chief reason to go to Buddies is the fabled Buddies all-nighter: grab some friends, head to Buddies at a reasonable hour, and don't leave until the morning traffic has subsided. This is bloody marvellous, for easedropping potential if nothing else: the people who frequent are an eclectic and wonderful bunch. Last time I did this, a man punched a woman over a dog, some drunk students threw up on each other, and a man proposed only to be unsurprisingly turned down. What do you expect? It's on the seafront, it's open all night: who are they gonna attract? Drunk people and insomniacs, and neither really wants to be there. The menu is huge: most of it is awful. Stick to chips and well-cooked to avoid a premature end to your all-nighter. And if you've been clubbing, and want to stay up, pop in here to end the night with a more sanitary alternative to the kebab dripping down your shirt on the long, meandering walk home.

You can't walk more than a few feet in Brighton without seeing a seafood restaurant. And in our…read morecase this was the second choice as the first restaurant we wanted was fully booked, but honestly, I don't mind and I am glad the first place was book as this restaurant was excellent. The layout is a bit dated but don't let that fool you, with a view of the beach across the street this is a lovely place to have dinner. My girlfriend and I both had grilled fish options. I went with the Salmon and she had the Sea Bass. Both were delicious, although hers was looking up at her with sad dead eyes. We also had some shrimp as an appetizer that was excellent. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is that we went in August of 2020 (the era of COVID) and the waitress and others working at the restaurant were not properly wearing masks. The waitress had one on, that she would pull down when talking to us so as to be heard better. Making the mask pointless

Well you have to say this is a bizarre little place. Its a step back in time for sure...look a the…read morephotos...but... ...the staff are great, the service is great, the food is superb and apparently the Irish coffee was also really good...don't go there for the house wine though but its OK So why go, the food yes but the prices....its absolutely amazing...2 good sized lemon sole off the bone with potatoes were the same price as I can buy just 1 in the market, but of course its cooked too. We had a little bottle of fizz each, while we were waiting, 200cl like you used to get on airplanes...drinkable, fun experience..£5 each....seriously there is nothing not to like! And nearly everyone in there was a regular or returned every year when on holiday...everyone seemed to know everyone..and you will understand why they comeback...we will Great (unusual) place, run I think by Greek Cypriots...a lot of Greek stuff on the menu too Check it out!

The chips were hard, too brown, insufficiently salted, and had a "leftover grease" taste. The fish was dry, coated thickly in batter that wasn't light and didn't seem fresh. Could it have arrived at the restaurant frozen? The tartare sauce was nice. The curry sauce was fine - but it's difficult to ruin curry sauce. My mushy peas had little discernible flavor, but too be fair, I barely had a bite: while these peas looked as though they'd been mushy at one point in their journey to my plate, they had now hardened and solidified, and were crusty and drained of moisture. Pretty awful. After the YouTube videos and the raves on Trip Advisor and Google, I am genuinely mystified about the disconnect. The final icing on the cake was the price. Haddock and chips here is more expensive than at the infinitely superior Golden Union in London. Quite sad to have wasted my sister-in-law's money on this atrocious meal.

The food was super fresh and hot - I recommend eating there for maximum freshness. I preferred the classic mushy peas over the curry, but both were good. This place filled up fast, so I suggest getting there a bit early.
