Never know in State College as not many reviewers I think, except on graduation weekend. Figured we'd try Quaker Steak & Lube before a movie. Glad we did. Sat right away. Clean pleasant restaurant. Service was friendly and quick. My wife got the tender salad. I got the cheesesteak. Thoroughly enjoyed my sandwhich. Bread was chewy. Good amount of savory filling with mushrooms and caramelized onions. Salad had very fresh greens. Blue cheese dressing had big chunks of cheese. Tenders were perfectly fried out of the fryer. This strip mall denizen a couple miles outside of campus is exactly as expected. TVs flash games everywhere and the car motif is in full view. It's a lively atmosphere. Youth tournament teams steam in and out. The wings, lots of heat levels and flavors, are good. Small sized but well cooked. The "hot" sauce is under the spicy category. It's good and leaves a mild sting on lips...and I love heat so this is decent. Salads we had are good and fresh. Everything is as expected. We stopped in around 7:00 p.m. on a Saturday night and the place was surprisingly empty. "Race car" themed atmosphere with every square inch of wall space covered with something. I'll assume they tried to make it look something like an automotive garage but every sign or banner was meticulously placed in perfect alignment - not at all realistic as a real garage would be, but no matter. I ordered my burger with no pickles. Waitress said "I'll be sure they don't put any pickles on.". Guess what? Pickles were on. The burger patty itself was very good. French fries were great. I ordered the baked beans as a side and they were extremely tasty however they were hard as if they were not done being cooked the whole way. Everybody else said their meals were good. Drinks were kept full. I definitely go back but I probably wouldn't get any meal that would even remotely have the possibility of having a pickle. read more

We've been stopping by this location for the last few years. I have had the garlic parmigiana bone in wings many many times. I had gave up on this here. We decided to go back today and like always I ordered the wings. They may very well be the best garlic parmigiana wings I've ever had in my life. I asked for the manager so that I could express to him how delicious they were. Our server told us that the guy cooking the wings was the best of the best. (and he was). Visited a few weeks ago with family after a PSU hockey game. Our server was attentive, helpful, and thorough in taking our orders and rectifying some small errors when our food arrived, like missing sauces and the wrong kind of mac & cheese being delivered. The place was clean, and our food was fine. So why the two-star review? My partner and I watched the manger bring a food-grade container of crushed Oreos to the bar area. He reached into the cookies bare handed, scooped some out, and funneled them directly into his mouth... and then repeated. The hand that touched his mouth went back into the container of crushed Oreos. I had hoped that the cookies were out of date and on the way to the trash, but we could see the label on the side of the container and, from what we could see of the dates, they were not. If I have bad food or bad service at a restaurant, I usually just don't leave a review in case it was an off day for them, etc. However, when the person who runs the place is pawing food directly from the service container into his mouth, who are you going to report this health code violation to? We went there last night for the first time. Our server John was awesome, very attentive. We had the wings and they were delicious. Good flavor on the wings and the quality of the wings were awesome. What can I say about this place, except that I was blown away by it all! First the atmosphere was open, friendly, and if you like sports this is the place to watch it. The staff are quick and friendly and always smiling! They generally seemed happy to be working here. Now for the food...for a drink o had the "Arnold Palmer"(a combination or lemonade and ice tea) and it was the best I have ever tasted. I chose to have the Baby Back Ribs combo, it was 1/2 rack ribs, and six chicken wings, I chose Bourbon Baked Beans and coleslaw. They advertise that their BBQ sauce is an awesome winning sauce, after tasting it I have to agree that it definitely deserves to win! The ribs and wings were cooked to perfection. The Baked Bean were extremely delicious, the coleslaw was good but a little dry for me, I like it but my Dad makes it better. upon arrival the dining area was mostly empty, lots of people at the bar but mostly empty restaurant tables. We were given a table and not asked if we would like a table or booth, we moved ourselves to a booth. The steak that was ordered was charred on the outside and definitely not cooked anywhere near medium well on the inside. Baked potato was overcooked and mostly not edible. Fries were way over seasoned and too salty to even eat more than a few. Waitress was very pleasant, didn't see her much other than for taking the order, bringing food. I know this may sound a bit crazy but the soap in the restrooms smelled like an old man's cologne. it was very overwhelming and I could wait to get to my next stop to rewash my hands. Were seated immediately, and was given a new employee and they did a good job. We ordered the loaded magna fries which were phenomenal with the ranch and hot sauce. After we chomped that down, my baby back ribs with chicken tenders, bourbon baked beans and steamed broccoli arrived. The baby back ribs with the original BBQ sauce were hands down the best ribs I've had from any place around here. The chicken tenders on their own were mediocre, but could possibly be better with other sauce variations. The steamed broccoli was good, and the baked beans were delicious. It's one of the most gimmicky of restaurants you'll find with all sorts of things car and gasoline station oriented right from the gas pump door handles to race cars hanging upside down from the ceiling. For my lunch I ordered their Classic Fish & Chip which turned out to be a Panko coated season breaded cod, fried, accompanied with a tartar sauce and coleslaw. For my taste it wasn't anything special, sort of OK, certainly nothing unique or exceptional. We stopped at this location based on a trip to State College. I can honestly say I was impressed with their COVID-19 actions including booth separators, distancing tables, hand sanitizer stations, wait staff wearing their masks, etc. Overall we had a pretty good meal. We ordered chicken fingers - so good, not an overpowering of breading and the chicken was still moist and not greasy. I was only missing carrots and celery on the side - I love fresh carrots and celery with blue cheese dressing. The blue cheese came in packets, not a huge fan. We tried four different dipping sauces - I'm more of a mild fan and still my nose ran due to the mild spice. My boyfriend had two of the spicer sauces and he said they were warm. They aren't kidding with their spice ranges/temperatures. We went on the 4th of July and had a good dining experience. Our waitress was friendly, accommodating, and was attentive to us. I ordered a baked potato and she said she brought me out the largest they had which was also perfectly dressed. Anywho - go support this restaurant now! We didn't have any alcohol as we were driving home three plus hours home, however, the x-rated Barbie shot had us very intrigued and the Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest was on a fair amount of screens. I get it - 4th of July, 'merica, patriotism, etc., but I don't find it appetizing eating my lunch and watching people on TV down 70+ hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes or less. Manager and employees are very friendly. The wings and chicken are very good. However, they do not participate in some deal that other Quake and Steak's participate in. For being so close to a college town they would definitely make more money if they offered these deals. The customer service wasn't very good at all. We waited for a good 30 minutes just for the appetizer and when it came out the food was cold. About 2 minutes later we got our food, which was also cold. The burger wasn't even cooked in the middle and looked disgusting. The cheese steak was cold as well. I'll start off by saying I love Quaker Steak and Lube. I'm a car guy and the atmosphere is fitting. The food is generally really good and the service is above par. I rate this a 2 star simply because the pricing doesn't make sense to me. I ordered a "Compact Bucket" which consisted of 18 wings and the order of 9 wings. So in total 27 wings. Now. Here's the issue... My total amount that I paid was $40.xx.... that is over $1.00 per wing. Why should I keep coming to a place that overcharges and under delivers? I can name several other places within 5 miles or so that you can get the same quality of wings if not better and cheaper. Yeah they don't have as many flavor options but at the same time I feel like the cost per wing is completely ridiculous. I don't generally give negative reviews but this isn't something I can agree with because the wings are what brings me to QSL. Sad read more

We stopped here on our way to the Nittany Mall this evening because my wife was hungry for wings. This was graduation weekend for Penn State, so most every restaurant in town was packed, and Quaker Steak was no exception. Fortunately, we were seated quickly, and within minutes, our waiter was there to take our drink order. We also ordered a quesadilla as an appetizer, which arrived surprisingly fast. It's a sports bar with a garage / automotive theme. There are cars and motorcycles suspended from the ceiling. Pretty cool atmosphere. I ordered the Arizona El Camino burger (10.99), and my wife got a 5 piece order of their Arizona Ranch wings ($7.99). I thought that was a lot for only 5 wings. We waited about 25 minutes for our meals to arrive, and I must say that the burger was impressive. It was huge and a little hard to handle, but it was very tasty. My wife didn't care for the Arizona Ranch wings, which she said were a little dry. I do like that you get Twizzlers when they bring you the check. Nice touch ! read more

I was absolutely devastated to find out they changed their soft pretzels and beer cheese! I used to be obsessed with their beer cheese and would make a point to stop into Quaker while I was home (I live in Florida now) and grab the soft pretzel app. I ordered it today and was heartbroken to see it's not the same beer cheese or pretzels anymore :( It's not nearly as good as the old kind and now I have no desire to go back. We have been fans of QSL for years and were pleased when they reopened the one in State College and also opened one in Mechanicsburg. The wings served at QSL are the best and diners can select from over a dozen varieties of sauces. In addition to the great wings, a few of our other favorites are the Lube chips - homemade think cut potato chips served with a beer cheese sauce for dipping and the burgers, which are quite filling. The menu is quite extensive and everyone should be able to find something they would enjoy on the menu. While the décor is auto themed, the food is definitely not an afterthought. read more

I got the parmesan pepper wings and they were very spicy even though they were ranked low on the level of spice. My brother loved his burger and said it was so amazing then my friend got the chicken tenders and said they were great as well. I also got fries and they were good too. The wings were pretty decent in size but def overpriced. Its 9 wings for 12 bux. Tastewise they were fried pretty good so that they had a good crunch but not dry on the inside. The flavors were decent as well nothin too crazy. My favorite one is the haut parm. I tried the buckeye barbeque and the arizona ranch as well, but haut parm was on another level compared to the others. Overall, i dont think id go out of my way to try this place again but if i did id def get the haut parm again or maybe id try the all u can eat wings. read more

I have been coming to various Quaker Steak restaurants for 20 years now, and I can't think of one time I've had a bad meal. Tonight was All You Can Eat night. They have a buffet set up of 10 different wings, plus boneless chicken chunks and various sauces for them. Add in the Chips, Fries, and soup, you have a pretty solid meal! My favorites are the Thai'R'Cracker and all the "Dusted" ones. Haute Parm is pretty flipping hot for me, but boy are they tasty!!! The service is usually pretty good. I've never been there on a Football night, so I bet it gets slammed then. They continue to give fun bendy straws with your drinks, and warm towelettes and a twizzler with your check! I cannot say enough about how great this franchise is, and how great their wings are!!! read more

Initially I was ignored by the wait staff and the restaurant wasn't busy. I also saw 3 waitresses sitting down and 2 others working. I finally got someone to come over and I gave my order. The wings are very good here, very overpriced, but very good. My biggest complaint here is the bar. The bartenders are very inattentive. You almost have to beg for a beer which I totally understand when a place is packed, but when there are only 10 people at the bar and maybe a little over 20 in the entire place it's kinda ridiculous. Also, there is a large gentleman with glasses that basically does nothing but changes the channels on the TV. I'm assuming he is a manager and he will look at your empty glass, turn around and just walk around without a care in the world. Maybe he's thinking about the next flavor of wings he wants to eat. So, so, so, so glad QSL is back in State College!!! Made it in on opening night and, boy were they ready! Lots of staff on hand. The atmosphere: pretty nice. Your typical QSL. Lots of car stuff, bikes, etc. on the walls an d hanging from the ceiling. Lots of flat screens around. Nice and clean, but perhaps a little small?? Service: great. Lots of people to come by and check on us and thank us for coming. Sure, it was opening day, and things may changed, but everything was running really smoothly for opening day!! Food: I have never had anything from any QSL other than their wings, so if you want to know about the burgers, ribs, salads (ummm... huh???), you probably need to ask someone else. But in comparison to other wing places in town, you get great, meaty, not overly greasy wings in lots of combinations of flavors. Everything we ordered came out hot and fresh, not reheated or sitting under the warming lamps for too long. The bar drinks were a little on the sweet side, but when I stood up to leave, I realized I'd been had!! The prices: so here's where they get you. Unfortunately, no matter the size wings you order, you can only get two flavors. If you want to sample lots of flavors, you're going to have to order the smaller sizes and that adds up quickly without realizing it. On the other hand, if we hadn't been so excited to have them back and thought about the fact that we could just come back another time to try the other flavors it probably wouldn't have escalated like it did. They do offer happy hour specials from 4-6 with half of select appetizers and other drink specials, and Tuesdays they will offer the wing buffet for $13, so there are ways to avoid our mistakes! You can even play Big Buck Hunter while you wait for your table. Child friendly, it makes getting drunk over dinner a family affair. The grilled wings are excellent and I haven't met a sauce I didn't like. Steer clear of the 10,000 calorie options like the Mac and Cheese burger unless you really are that lonely and depressed, then it just doesn't matter anymore. The food is pretty good if it's correct... We went to dinner one evening and we ordered the cheese fries for an appetizer and I ordered the half rack of ribs/6 wings meal. I asked for BBQ boneless instead of bone-in wings and I had paid the extra to get cheese and bacon put on my baked potato. So we placed our orders and then we began to wait and wait and wait for our food. Then out comes our waiter with our meals. And yes I said MEALS not our appetizer. I asked him where our appetizer was and he just looked confused and said he would go check on it. Strike 1. Then I look down at my plate and what do I see, bone-in wings! Not boneless like I had ordered. I don't like their bone-in wings. I think they are too fatty and not enough good meat on them. Strike 2. The waiter brings out our appetizer... Finally. And I tell him my wings are wrong. I put them on a little plate and he took them back in. So I go to take a bite of my baked potato. It's covered in sour cream and butter!!!! I specifically said "no whipped cream or butter. Just cheese and bacon". Strike 3. I was furious and asked for a manager immediately.
