I had my first (and probably last) experience at Wings Over State College today. I placed my order at 5 PM, and when I showed up at 8 PM to pick it up, I was told it would still be another 45 minutes before my food was ready. By that point, the line was out the door, and I noticed several people in the kitchen standing around not doing much, which made the delay even more frustrating. The woman at the register ultimately convinced me to just request a refund, which I agreed to since I wasn't willing to wait any longer. But instead of providing any official receipt or confirmation, she simply wrote my name on a piece of paper and told me I "should" see the refund by the end of the week. That left me feeling uneasy--no proof, no assurance, just "trust us." I moved into my apartment this semester and was excited to use the coupon they gave out to try Wings Over for the first time. I had high hopes, but instead I left extremely disappointed in the customer service and overall management of the situation. Wings over chicken fingers slap as always although i swear the fingers used to be called "boneless chicken wings." Garlic Parm was delicious (first time). Hot Honey and Cruising Altitude missed the mark. Hot Honey didn't have enough kick. Cruising Altitude didn't have enough sauce and i'd barely call it hot. The lemon pepper fries were delicious and fried just right. The chicken slapped as it always does but the flavors didn't bring back the nostalgia i was hoping for. The black styrofoam containers with everything sloshed together are no more - depending who you ask that could be a plus or a minus. What happened to Wimpy Buffalo flavor? My visit here was the plot of a sitcom. The wife and I are in 2 separate cars and she says "I'll go anywhere, I'll follow you." Well we're pressed for time so we go in, place our order and sit down to wait. Now I've heard of places with a credit card minimum, places that don't take Amex, etc but never (since Covid lockdown was over) have I been to a place that doesn't take cash. Normally I'm a big fan of wings but I have a long drive ahead of me so I opt for boneless that I can eat with a fork. I can use their app, which I dont have a phone for (that is to say, they have not provided a phone to download their software onto). Wings Over was a favorite in my apartment! I was so appreciative of their pretty late hours as someone who always worked closing shift at a restaurant. When my out of town friends would come this is something they'd always request. Can't beat the wing combo with fries and a drink. The wings have a lot of fat on them and they don't cook them to enough to burn any of the fat off. I had their hot sauce, and I had their version with garlic in it, and they were both so rich and not in a good way. I felt kind of gross after two wings. I also got tater cots, and they definitely had been sitting around for quite a while. I think that I have finally found my go to wing spot in State College! When I saw the extensive menu and wide variety of spices, I had to make sure I was on my best behavior, because I would have easily ordered everything if I didn't! I ended up ordering a fried chicken wrap with hot garlic sauce and a side of French fries. The chicken wrap was amazing!!! The sauce was the perfect mix of garlic and buffalo, and the fries were perfectly fried and seasoned, with a nice crisp. I ordered honey bbq sauce on the side and it was finger licking good!!! If I wasn't with my friends, I would have probably started drinking it down like a track runner downing gatorade after a match. The only thing that is keeping me from giving this place five stars is their customer service, they really need to tighten up on that. The guy at the register seemed like he didn't want to be there, and they gave me waffle fries when I had instead actually ordered regular fries. Consistent delicious chicken. One of the few places I will order delivery from and it's piping hot and quick! I must admit, I usually only order their boneless wings, onion rings or waffle fries. The option of multiple sauces is perfect for when I want variety or share. Downfall, they changed their packaging. It's more flimsy and doesn't hold up to the sauces. I asked the cashier about the deal and he told me that Hooked deals were valid till 7:00 PM. After mentioning that the Hooked app still had the deal, the cashier was very understand and checked with his boss and his boss said that they would not accept the deal since it's past 7 PM. Nothing too wimpy. We were very happy that they were hot. Yes, we were pleasantly surprised. They were indeed hot! On delivery day, attempted contact via online chat through app. Messages indicated they were read, but no response. Patiently awaiting delivery outside apartment building for 30+ minutes. Finally walked to location to find out it was closed. What kind of business accepts an order and takes a payment when they aren't even open, with no response to multiple inquiry attempts. My husband and I came to the area for arts fest and to see our daughter and being from the south we love wings and hospitality so we came here. The person beind the counter was outstanding, I didn't catch his name but he was kind and sweet, he was cleaning up and we told him we weren't in a hurry, however he decided we were more important, sweet but no necessary. We knew we didn't want tenders and wings were what we wanted, only problem is we weren't sure what flavor. The gentleman asked us what we normally liked on chicken and we told him we wanted something unique. He recommended the kicking barbeque sauce when we asked him how it tasted his response was "how about you tell me?" he asks us if we have food allergens and he came back with a small cup with 2 french fries, one for each of us and he described it before we tasted it and it was exactly as he described and exactly what we wanted. We weren't terribly hungry however he sold us on the 18 wing meal, assuring us each a 20 oz soda and possibly a whole other meal. We was all wondering if flavor sampling is something you offer until we heard the man being reprimanded for offering that to us. I was in shock and awe, the value of the food he gave us couldn't have been worth more than a quarter and that quarter is what made us come back and bring our daughter who hasn't heard of your restaurant and she fell in love. I am sorry we cost you a quarter in profits but you will make this up in repeat business no worry there. I just find it unprofessional to reprimand a young man for providing decent service, I believe the gentleman was the manager because he was telling the man who waited on us how he can be written up and I could tell he felt bad but he did a great job. Was GREAT until today. We have gotten ribs plenty of times from this place. But today was my anniversary with my boyfriend and they gave us BURNT ribs. I don't understand how you can burn ribs, cover/hide it with sauce, and still charge the same amount. There were parts of it so burnt it was inedible. I Will not be returning. I read the reviews before I ordered for delivery and my experience was similar to many. Several of the extra items I ordered and paid extra for were not delivered (celery, blue cheese). Based on other reviews this was not shocking. Double checking an order apparently is not something they do here. The sweet chili boneless wings (really chicken fingers) are really good. Originally, this review was going to be on the negative side, as there was a long strand of hair found in the midst of my honey mustard chicken wing. However, after a thorough DNA analysis of the hair strand, my colleagues and I concluded that is in fact a piece of hair that belonged to a sloppy bimbo named Chrysel. Thank goodness we conducted this test before reviewing Wings Over Happy Valley. Anyway, let's get into the review. Out of all the wings in State College, Wings Over is the best. Though they aren't the best wings I've eaten, in middle-of-nowhere Pennsylvania, it stands tall as State College's best. The luscious taste of the honey barbecue wings, the tongue-thrilling taste of the afterburner, and the enriching taste of Wings Over bleu cheese. It seriously takes you on a journey through ecstasy and euphoria that not even a tab of LSD can induce. The speed of the delivery is also very en pointe. Or on point. I'm not actually quite sure on how to use that phrase. As residence of downtown State College, Wings Over is certainly too far to trek. However, the agile performance of the Wings Over delivery boys (shout out to my boy Will Levine), the good people of College Township will never go hungry. It's as if Wings Over is the dark knight of PSU. I've never had food delivered to my doorstep as fast as Wings Over. However, I'm quite disappointed that certain delivery boys do not come to the actual doorstep of my apartment. This calls for a loss of half a star. The other loss of a half star is due to the vast choices of flavors that are very similar to one another. Often times, it is baffling to keep track of flavors, and many times, I am unsure of what I want to order. Honey mustard vs. honey barbeque vs. barbeque. Ain't nobody got time for that. I wish that we could have free samples of these wings before actually ordering to make our experience at Wings Over much more enjoyable. Oh my goodness, now THESE people got wings! I've never been to any locations of Wings Over so I can't really comment on the chain as a whole. I mentioned this place on a thread about the hottest things I've eaten. One day while studying, my friend and I decided to order some DC-10's, some with honey barbecue and some with afterburner sauce. Let's just say that the barbecue ones finished relatively faster than those afterburners. My saving grace for those afterburners was only the bleu cheese and ranch. Jeebus, those were some really hot wings; I felt like I was breathing fire, which would have been wonderful if I wanted to burn my physiology book at the time.
