I hate to go to chain restaurants but my son and his girlfriend love this place. It receives a 5 for a chain low budget restaurant. Compared to Morton's it gets a 2 star. The steak was tender but a bit salty. The wait time for delivery of main course is typical for a chain -- slow. But friendly service. Ambiance is ok but nothing to brag about for a chain. I was really disappointed with my meal. I ordered ribs, and they were completely burnt. They were dry, overcooked, and had a bitter burnt taste that made them impossible to eat. For the price, I expected much better quality. I usually enjoy Texas Roadhouse, but this experience definitely missed the mark. Been going to this location for a couple years now. It's in a college town so as you'd expect you flip a coin on service and food. They do have a couple outstanding servers but more bad than good. The parking lot is always full and more parking far then close. Location is clean and what you'd expect from a road house. Sadly the reason for the 1 star is the new bread policy. Our last visit this weekend which was my third for the week... we were told 1 basket of bread per table, any extra will be at a charge. I couldn't believe it, but was told it was from college kids coming in and just getting bread. Needless to say I will not be paying for bread and will drive the 45 minutes to eat at the Altoona location instead. Really hope they get their stuff together. I know a few other local families in the same boat and won't be returning. read more

My steak...something I pick a couple of times per year so like "right"...wasn't perfect. But, yes, this IS a 5-star review. Not a misclick Of course, one discovers such errors after the intial "look good?" inquiry. The server noticed my husband and I talking and double checked. I admitted it was off (server agreed it was med-well, beyond even medium...very little color...I ordered medium-rare order). They immediately said they'd fix it. And then kept me informed about a kitchen snafu. Leading the manager to correct it, comp it, AND send me home with another for the next day. Both my corrected steak and the bonus were delicious. I did not ask for or expect anything beyond a decent chain steakhouse meal. And I understand mistakes happen, esp on a high-volume Saturday (and w the local team crashing and burning onscreen) what I get judge-y on is how they handle it, making it right, esp when we aren't talking about a Big Mac. What can ya say? It's a chain, so one really shouldn't be much different from the next. When we are on the road and I ask my kids, "Where do you guys want to eat?" 9 outta 10 times it's, Texas Roadhouse. So I wasn't surprised when they asked me to take them here last night after the PSU game. My kids felt this was the "Best" Texas Roadhouse they have ever been to. I asked them to explain. They said the bathrooms were the cleanest, they thought our server was very nice, service was fast, and most of all, they proclaimed that this Texas Roadhouse had the BEST ROLLS outta of all others. We ordered a 6oz Dallas Filet and a 14oz Ribeye cooked medium. They both were cooked to perfect temperature. My son got the kids Mac and Cheese, and he was satisfied with that at 5 Rolls! I was very impressed how fast we got seated and served on a busy Saturday after a PSU game. read more

I stopped by Texas Roadhouse on a Friday evening and I really enjoyed the experience. You do need to be careful with timing up your visit because the waitlist does get full. The service is great. They are really quick, friendly, and try very hard to make your experience a good one. I thought that the appetizers were decent. I had a 11oz steak and it was pretty good. It's upbeat and fun. The waitstaff are the real hero's of the place and they give bring the restaurant to life with their infectious attitudes that I swear could make even the saddest person crack a smile. While in the area I stopped in here for dinner... I typically don't like this average chain steak houses as they're all the same and not very good... but after seeing positive press about a couple of new Texas Roadhouses in my area, I decided to give this one a try while in this area. The bar was packed, so was the restaurant... there were a lot of people waiting outside when I arrived and so many still waiting when I left.  Craziness that people wait in line to eat here! The bartenders were decent and friendly.  They menu is the typical chain steakhouse fare.  Sides to choose from on the menu were abundant.  I went with a salad with ranch and chili.  The salad was decent, it's iceberg lettuce, but had too much of the harder white core in it.  The chili had a nice flavor, but twice I bit into huge chunks of fat (like 1/2" chunks). I tried the 6oz sirloin and added the rib add-on.  The ribs are definitely "fall off the bone" but lacked the flavor I look for in ribs, which includes smoke and some BBQ sauce.  I asked for, and got a side of BBQ sauce to dip the ribs in and this helped, especially since they were dry as well.  The steak was prepared to my liking, which was medium rare plus.  But the steak had barely any flavor to it and was really boring.  I'm not a "steak sauce" kinda guy, so I asked for some creamy horseradish to dip the steak into and this helped immensely. Overall, it was an adequate meal and so was the service.  Now that I've been, I can't say I'll be back for many years, until I once again forget why I stopped coming and need that reminder. read more

From the start, our experience was not good. This was meant to be our celebratory anniversary dinner. My boyfriend and I both ordered medium-rare steaks. His steak (a ribeye) was burnt on the outside and overdone on the inside. Mine (a filet) was more than rare on the inside. (Borderline raw!-- see pictures). My stomach still hurts from the extremely bloody taste it left in my mouth. On top of that, the service was odd. Our server disappeared for 20 minutes or longer while we were waiting for our water. Our food took very very long to arrive. (~45 minutes). Finally, my second drink (a gin and tonic) tasted awful. It almost tasted like they left out the gin altogether (It tasted like a different drink entirely, maybe vodka soda?) there wasn't a lime on it either, which has me suspecting it wasn't gin at all. I ended up ordering a different drink without drinking it. The two things we did enjoy a lot were the sides, the fried pickles, and the margarita I ordered after the bungled gin and tonic. For this I believe this review deserves one star. We have been to Texas Roadhouse many times. I was surprised and really upset to receive this service. For a special day this experience absolutely ruined it. I can go as far to say that I have never experienced such horrid service. read more

First, I did not give one star because I was a regular here and all food based on my past experience is good. This FLY incident, I'm not sure this is a one time thing or I just didn't notice before. Either way, I don't want to be too judgemental so I still rated two stars. Second, I went back to the restaurant and talked to the manager. I requested a refund on this dish and they verbally said yes since I paid online and they couldn't process the payment in-store. So far I haven't received the refund yet but I will edit my review if in the future I receive it. Third, I hate being overly subjective on this issue but after all, this is a food safety issue. Went here with my boyfriend last night and my experience was... mediocre at best. I've been to this location numerous times and never experienced an issue before. We came in an hour before close and the restaurant was very slow compared to other times I have dined here. When we were seated we were seated at a table that still had dirty cups from the people before us, and our rolls were incredibly over cooked. Not a big issue, it took nearly 10 minutes before our server came to the table. We ordered our drinks as well as an appetizer, and then our food when she brought back our drinks. When our appetizer (Rattlesnake bites) came out they were great! We waited around 30-45 minutes for our entree's to come out. When our food came out I was immediately disappointed. My steak that I had ordered medium was more medium rare, which wasn't a huge deal to me. My shrimp I ordered were burnt to the point they were literally charred, and the green beans I had gotten were mushy and tasted awful. My boyfriends steak, which was also ordered medium, was so rare the center of it was still cold. I waited 10 minutes for our server to come back, and she was nowhere to be found. I decided at that point if we're going to be charged $60 for a meal it needs to at least be edible. I went up to the host stand and spoke to the manager up there, she came to our table and had a look of shock on her face when I showed her our food. She was very nice and helpful and took the shrimp and green beans back to be remade, like I said I didn't mind my steak and my boyfriend had eaten most of his. She brought the new food out which was exceptionally better, and told us she would take care of half of our bill. We finish eating, at this point I just wanted to go home. We waited for another 15 minutes after we finished eating and once again our server was nowhere to be found. We paid on the tablet at the table and I had to grab another server to get boxes. I think in total we saw our server 3 times in the hour and a half we were there. Never in my life have I had this kind of experience here, the food has always been phenomenal when I've gone. This was an experience that doesn't make me want to come back anytime soon. The sections the servers have are very small, which was what made it hard to understand why we never saw ours. I understand it was the end of the night and she likely had side-work to complete but customers come first. The kitchen just seemed like a wreck, which I know places can have bad nights, I've been there myself. But being that it was very slow, especially given how busy they typically are, I don't understand how the quality was this mediocre. I appreciated the manager's willingness to accommodate the issues we had. But, overall it seems that this restaurant needs to pull it together. I can only hope that for their own sake that happens before the Penn State students return and football season starts. read more

We always eat here when we're in town. Their medium-rare 20 ounce prime rib with mushrooms is the reason we keep going back. We share meals because the portions are insane. You get two side dishes with the steak and they each could be enough for a meal. We always end up bringing home enough food for lunch the next day. If you want a meal at a Texas Roadhouse, this is always a great location to come to. I never have a problem with cleanliness, the staff are always super-friendly, and food comes out just as you'd expect. When you walk in to the restaurant, you will step right up to the greeters station; and from there you'll either be seated and offered peanuts while you wait or can step over and choose your own particular cut of steak. The dining area is pretty big, and always a cozy place in which to dine. Every so often the music will get a little louder than normal, and you'll see many of the servers perform a fun two-step dance (I think it's once every hour on the hour). My dad has had problems with other area Texas Roadhouse meals, where they seem to have a hard time getting his steak cooked at his requested levels; but this State College location has gotten it right every time that I can recall. The location is in a bustling intersection of shopping centers down either direction of the street, just off the Interstate 99 exit. read more
