I'm not a Colombian food connoisseur by any means so I chose this restaurant purely on reviews. I ordered the Patacones with pork, Estofado de Carne, Arepa Rellena with veggies and cheese, Arroz con Pollo and Sanchocho de Gallina. The food was delivered and plated quickly upon arrival. I appreciated the cardboard containers vs plastic but it did soak through. The bags it was packed up in kept it from becoming a mess. The smells were amazing and I had to taste as I plated. Everything was amazing, very flavorful, tender overall and large portions. Sadly, the carne was a little tough and I would not order this again. The Estofado de Carne had a hot sauce I had on the side. It was a very hot and delicious habanero sauce that was amazing! Great food, we'll be back for sure!! read more

Good GOD! I have never had Colombian food before, but I had heard good things about this spot. Came here on a date, and after having a couple of beers at the nearby Barrio, we both wanted something to eat... enter Que Bacano! I looked at the menu for a while, and EVERYTHING looked amazing. I couldn't decide! I eventually settled on the Arepas Relleno, which is a thick corn tortilla that is fried and split down the middle, then filled with absolute deliciousness! It's a bit of a fragile eat (mine was falling apart as soon as I picked it up), but dear lord is it tasty. My mouth is literally watering as I write this, remembering how good it was. That's saying something! The gentleman working there was very friendly, and kept speaking to me in what sounded like Spanish (I clearly don't speak Spanish). He soon realized I had little to no idea what he was saying, started laughing and apologized after switching to English. All the guys that had been in line before me were speaking Spanish with him, so I get it. Anyway, not much to say about the ambiance as it's a food cart, but overall a very positive experience and I will DEFINITELY be back. I gotta try everything else! read more

Brazilian cheese bread - Pao de Queijo - gets the love, but I much prefer the Columbian version: Alsojabanas. The latter its softer and more moist on the inside. Rather than opt for canned or bottled drinks from the other Mercado carts, opt for the homemade juices here. I enjoyed the rarely found Guanabana (soursop.) The guys were cool, but maybe I caught them at bad moment as it took very long for my small order. This place is the real deal. read more

I had a hard time giving this a two In the age of the Covid but there are far better places I have given three to. I got the arroz mixto. Basically fried rice. I was rang up for 50 cents more than that price on the board. Which was already high but whatever you know, covid. The girl at the register was really confused. I didn't even have that complicated of an order. I even paid cash. I'm not sure why she was struggling so much with my order. Rather than ask for help or someone offer to help she struggled through. So I got my pager and waited. And waited and waited. Over half an hour went by. I hate being that guy but I went to the window as asked if my order was ready. Suddenly she hands it to me and the pager goes off, except my food wasn't hot. I don't know if it's food cart standard practice to not use actual pictures of the food but what I got was not what I saw. It came with four humorously small shrimp. One of them didn't taste that great but the others were passable. I liked the mix of veggies and visible peppers but the odd thing was that none of the flavor came through. I got the bandeja, cheesy rolls and apple soda. The cheesy rolls were great and extremely addictive, and the bandeja was decent. The soda tasted pretty similar to an Izze. Nice place and creatively decorated with Colombian music in the background. A friend and I went here last weekend at the recommendation of coworkers that are based out of Colombia (and have also never visited this restaurant). Bottom line: I want to go back, but my friends experience was more so-so. My friend got an order of almojabanas to share between us, they were served hot and were delicious. I was expecting them to be stuffed with cheese, but instead the cheese flavor is somehow baked in and throughout the little cake. Definitely need to order these when you visit! I was pretty hungry, so I ordered two of the arepa rellenas with chicken. Those were super good! Stuffed full with shredded chicken, and a special sauce throughout. The arepa flatbread stayed surprisingly crunchy and didn't get soaked through from all the drippings either, so it wasn't as messy to eat as I thought it would be. My friend ended up swiping my second one and loved hers as well, but we both agreed the flavors were very subtle. For my main dish I ordered the Choriarepa, which is a chorizo sausage and slices of the arepa, with some shredded lettuce and a little container of a creamy sauce. This was super delicious too! Normally when I have chorizo I expect it to be sort fof overpowering, but this was a very mild flavor and almost made to work with all the garnishes and sauce. My friend ordered the Picada Colombiana as her main. She just didn't dig it. She said that the meat seemed unseasoned, and she kept hitting some gristly cuts. So ultimately this is why I'm not giving 5 stars right now. The flavors of everything were much more subtle than what we were expecting, so I'm not sure if this is the intent (I've never had Colombian food before) or if they were just having an off day. And my friends ho-hum feelings about her plate didn't help my opinion any. That said, I plan to come back because I want to give them another try, and I think anybody who's thinking about giving them a visit should make their way there! read more

The food and flavors are 5 stars, however the owner has much to be desired to truly earn a 5 star from this elite. He was a bit curt, not very personable and kinda came across as rude/arrogant and unappreciative. If only he and his mother Lucy, swapped spots, where she was running the front of the house instead of the back of the house they woulda had this 5 star for sure...SMH. We bookmarked this spot awhile ago since It's rare to easily find Colombian food. Everything we ate was flavorful and authentic from the empanadas to the almojábanas to the picada, arepa con pollo y queso and the guanabana smoothie... they were all delicious! Where he really lost us was when we asked to purchase 20 chorizo in the next few days to have frozen and take home with us. He just seemed disinterested and like it was a hassle... didn't see that there was a sale to make (really missed on the opportunity). Not to mention he really tarnished our first visit. Hopefully he sees this and realizes that his customer service is a poor reflection of true Colombians. I was hoping for greatness but it was just okay. I ordered the Picada Colombiana [Picada or Picada Colombiana is a delicious Colombian cuisine mix , prepared with pieces of steak, chicken, arepa, papa criolla (small potatoes), yuca (cassava), chorizo, tomatoes and plantain. The ingredients are usually fresh and home made. The word picada means chopped in Spanish. Often served on large platters, picadas are usually served at gatherings and for special occasions. (Gluten free) - $12.95] It was very dry. With all the ingredients I expected it to be flavorful but it was not. The location is a food cart. There were about 6 different carts. This was the first one near the store. They have a seating area but if you're visit during lunch, you may have to stand since there are not a lot. I won't go out of my way to visit but if I find myself in the area again, I would order something different. (Visit was in March 2019) read more

I should really just treat this is an excercise for Bart Simpson to write on the chalkboard over and over: Almojabanas. These are what keeps me coming back. However, I did also have an order of the Yuca Fritas (fried casava) and those coupled with the accompanying sauces were equally awesome. So now, instead of only subsisting on almojabanas when I go there, I'll pair them with Yuca Fritas with an extra sauce for the almojabanas. Yes, they are that good. First time I've tried Patacones. It's fried green plantains flatten like a tortilla with chicken topped with Colombian salsa ($7.95 for 4) and a cabbage style slaw on the side. Definitely reminds me of a taco the way it's served. Patacones are also known as tostones! Highly recommend giving this a try! read more

Stopped by Que Bacano the other day during my visit to Portland Mercado! We ordered a bunch of dishes including their arepas, empanadas, plantains and this cheesy bread I can't recall the name of. While it took a little longer than expected in terms of the wait, the food was absolutely fantastic and I'm definitely going to come back again! Everyone was delicious and flavorful. I always try to make a point of coming here when passing through the 205 in Portland. The arroz atoyalldo is to die, and the portions are huge and prices super reasonable. It is located in the Portland Mercado , which has a great vibrant atmosphere. They never answer their phone though, so drive by and check it out! read more

On the hunt for some good and filling arepas so we checked out this cart in the Mercado. They offer Colombian style arepas, which isn't as fluffy in my opinion as Venezuelan style, but just as flavorful. We got chicken as the filling and it was pretty decent, not dry at all. They have some other offerings like empanadas and these gf Almojabanas cheese bread things. Not to be confused with gf Brazilian pao de queijo, these were very convincing bread things. We actually preferred the bread things over the empanadas. Bread things. My only gripe is the lack of veggies in the meat-filled arepas, although I'm a little spoiled in having filled-to-the-brim arepas in another state. All in all a good choice at the Mercado. read more

Decided to give them a try to compare and contrast from the other Colombian food truck El Pilon. The only thing I can say is better is the chicken flavoring. But their empanadas, arepas, pastones isn't comparable to El pilon. Almobanjanos is a hard pass- so hard and oily texture. read more

I live close to the Portland Mercado and have eaten at several of the other carts but only tried this one for the first time, last night. I wish I'd tried it sooner! I ordered the Arroz Atollado, a mix of chicken, pork, sausage, rice, potatoes, vegetables and egg. It smelled and tasted heavenly and the portion was so generous, I had it for dinner two nights in a row. I can't wait to return! read more

Simply put, the Pollo a la Criola is fantastic and the only meal I get here. The only down side is that it comes with maduros (unripened plaintains) instead of the option for ripe plantains. The Tres Leches for desert is also really good, though no where near authentic Columbian food. Give it a shot! read more

Been reading a cookbook of Incan, Mayan and Aztec food. so fun to try some Colombian food (as well as buying some of their packaged goods a the Kaah Market.) We split orders of empanadas & arepa rellenos. Both very tasty and filling, The empanada dough thin & nicely crispy, the filling gernerous & flavorful. Had only had the smaller arepas at the venezuelan place on 12th, so neat seeing how a larger one could be stuffed, similar filling to the empanadas, with addition of cheese. read more

We drove 30 min to find this Colombian food cart and we weren't disappointed! Lots of options but narrowed it down to Beef empanadas- if your Colombian you know beef is the way to go! They were filled with lots of meat and potatoes and had great flavor! I also went for the "choriarepa"- Colombian chorizo with aprepa- oh this was very tasty! Was like eating at abuelitas house! Man at window ignored me while he counted his receipts for a couple minutes. He finally looked up. I ordered plantains which are $4.50 they were delicious. My problem is they added a %15 fee on my card without my permission. It is not the amount it is just a bad thing to do. Wow! I loved my experience here. I ordered the Patacones and can't say enough good things about this dish. Three twice fried plantain cakes topped with marinated chicken and a cabbage slaw drizzled with, what appeared to be, avocado cream sauce! Wow it was like a street taco and a plantain tostada had a baby! The lady who took our order was so kind and helpful. She actually googled an ingredient for us to make confirm that the cheese rolls were in fact gluten free. Yes, we also ordered the Cheese rolls. They have a very long name that starts with an A that I can't remember right now. Either way, who doesn't like a cheesy roll, more less a gluten free one!! Several of the reviews for this place are actually reviews for other carts at the Mercado, they're reviewing items this cart doesn't actually carry. This is largely reheated mass-produced prepackaged foods that arrive frozen- Almojábanas weren't even fully heated. Empanadas are dry. Go inside the building and you can see the packages stuff arrives in- frozen bleached out shrink wrapped arepas, etc. Not fresh or handmade. Other carts here seem to be different, we'll give something else a try at the Mercado next time. read more

My favorite cart at the Mercado! Most things on the menu are gluten free, and all are delicious. The yucca and the cheese bread always sing their siren song to me, but I think my favorite is the patacones, basically tacos with flattened fried plantains instead of tortillas. So, so good. read more
