The shelves and cases are all still full, and the quality is good. But you used to walk through here and see at least half a dozen things that practically no other stores had on hand. They still have good stuff, though--no doubt. The bakery section was super tempting, and there were dozens of choices among meat, fish, and poultry. The produce section is really big for this size of store--imagine if Trader Joe's focused on fruit and veg instead of snacks and frozen stuff, and you have a general picture of the ratio. Prices are a bit higher here than TJ, but not unreasonable. Quality is very good (esp. on produce). There are long aisles of shelf-stable condiments, packaged stuff, tons of spices. They definitely aim first at the home cooks who think of themselves as home cooks, and secondly at the folks who just know they need good groceries. Beer and wine are just a few basics, maybe half a small aisle. They had a few solid manager's specials going today, and the staff were all very nice (if not very bubbly). I'd happily shop here if I didn't have to drive past half a dozen other supermarkets that are all good options. So, I'd shop here if I lived in Mill Creek, essentially.

The veggies including broccoli tend to be meh; the reason is that everything is straight from the carton without trimming. No hate, just the facts. That is how they keep the cost low. I go elsewhere for veggie greens (except salad lettuce). As for bulk foods, this area is a treasure trove - great selection, good prices, and tends to have good turnaround so the products are fresh. For this most recent first visit to the Everett location, I finally noticed how they label their 'sale' items. Look for green 'Extra Savings' signs. They don't stand out and are not visually eye-catching. Things are simply there in seemingly extra volume. I scored a liter size bottle of Valentina hot sauce for only $2.68. Starkist tuna cans were on sale for $0.88, lower than the typical grocery store sale of $0.99, plus they had the low sodium version in stock. We bought a case of 24. Anyway, go for the prices; don't expect service or ambiance. Winco can be the best. Oh, and they open 24 hours! BUT, no credit cards. Debit, EBT, or cash only.

Walking in, the ambiance is essentially "Costco: Industrial Edition." It's a massive warehouse of pure, unadulterated grocery chaos. While I wasn't exactly blown away by the prices on the name-brand items, the WinCo house brand is practically a steal--often half the cost! The real showstopper, however, is the bulk bin section. It takes up at least a quarter of the entire store. You could legitimately get lost in there and start a new life among the quinoa and gummy bears. A word to the wise: WinCo is strictly "Cash or Debit only." I was blissfully unaware of this little quirk until I reached the register, and I narrowly escaped a walk of shame only because I happened to have some cash on me. Consider yourself warned!

I came over yesterday to pick up an online order, and the kid who brought out my stuff was super nice. They didn't have everything I ordered, and she explained why. It all went pretty smoothly overall. Safeway remodeled it and now I don't think that we really have a worst store in Mill Creek. Safeway has really stepped up and turned this grocery store around. It's still not 'fancy' like Central Market, but that's okay, it's just a good, well stocked, clean, professional, nicely merchandised grocery store that has everything I'm looking for minus the lobster in tanks they have down the street. (A very rare need) As far as the savings, I think it's substantial. I use my Club Card and before I go shopping I log onto my Safeway account and click onto the coupons that are appropriate for what I buy. I usually get cash off my bill too. I encourage everyone who shops at Safeway to do this. When I first created an online account at Safeway I was pretty amazed at the amount of cash I'd been basically throwing away by not creating an online account. We're talking cash, not just coupons. So good job Safeway. You're a vast improvement over Albertsons and I'm glad you're in Mill Creek.

People of Everett, perhaps you complain about the prices here, or the long lines, but all I can say is, that's all so relative. Prices here are a fraction of what they are at m most grocery stores in Vancouver, and the selection is way better. (I visited this store at 8:30pm so I can't comment about long lines at the cash, as the store was fairly empty when I was there). I like how this store was clean, well-marked, and well-stocked. There's a Starbucks here (although it was closed when I visited). Even though I wasn't in the market to purchase alcohol, I liked seeing all the wines and liquors available (we don't have alcohol available to us in the grocery stores in Vancouver). The deli department had a lot of ready-made meals available (this, at 8:30pm, which is great, as I came here specifically to pick up a salad for a late dinner, to eat in my hotel room). The bakery and produce departments looked great, too, with lots of fresh offerings. LOVE the floral department. (When I lived I Redmond, WA for 25 years, the floral department at my Safeway store was always terrific, too). The lady who checked me out at the cash was friendly but a bit distracted, as she noticed on the mirrored panel on the wall that a guy in the store was in the process of shoplifting some Red Bull cans, and she was busy alerting store security about the issue. She still was able to simultaneously check me out and even chat a bit (great multitasking, wow!). Coming from Vancouver, I found the prices here to be crazy low. The Chinese food always taste dry and flavorless, the fried chicken is burnt. I ordered a pizza stick once and it was so nuked the inside filling was burnt and crispy with no sauce...I just threw it out. Most recently I bought lobster tails but when I cracked the shell (just 30 mins after purchasing) the meat smelt horrible and was discolored and black. I had to scrap my dinner idea for lobster rolls and order a pizza after spending $160 on two bags of groceries. It also seems like nothing is labeled properly. A bottle of wine will say $8.99 but at the cash register it will read $12.99 (yes I enter my phone number). There's supposed to be a $6 sushi deal on Wednesdays but there's no indicator which are $6 and which aren't, so when you get to the register it ends up being $10. With grocery prices these days I end up throwing away way too much of what I buy here which hardly seems worth it given the Fred Meyer just 5 mins down the road.
