    Beautiful flowers
    Kathryn Y.

Nice to have a local market which is not quite expensive as the other one which shall be named. LOL. I love the other one, but my wallet, not so much. Walking into this store were numerous flowers and the produce section was respectable and lovely. The aisles are big and I was happy with the organic choices. I am not an organic food snob per se, but sometimes the quality is just better. I was stoked to see some shrimps at a good price and they have provided a yummy snack time while I unpack. The seafood section looked good and I will come back for some soon. I came with a mission of getting my beloved hummus and peppers too which was easy. Walking by the deli I was impressed with all the pre-made items from fried chicken, pasta salads, sandwiches, etc. I purchased a standard potatoe salad which disappeared into my belly in two days. They also had the standard store made sushi which appeared to be made on site. Nice, in a pinch when the craving comes up. Not on this day. Service was friendly, efficient and no complaints there. Lastly, I did not purchase any speciality cheeses, but dang it! The cheese section looked the bomb! Each category had clear description for what kind of cheese it was. Nutty, smooth, creamy, soft, hard, etc. If you are planning a cheese plate come here. I am not sure they offer samples but maybe if you are nice and polite and ask sweetly. lol. Glad to have this store on the island! Cheers and happy Yelping.

I would have been clueless to this location, but a couple years back, I grabbed a physical ad and it listed this location. Mercer Island is a place I don't make a habit of visiting and this stop reminded me why. My brother used to live here, but that was 30 years ago. Pulling into the parking lot, everybody was acting like their car was priceless and you needed to give them space. If it takes you 45 seconds to back into a space everyone else is pulling into, you will catch my horn. It was a sunny day, but the real reason you needed sunglasses was to reduce the glare of the oversized ultraclear diamonds. I'll be blunt, I can't afford to live here, but it doesn't mean I can't shop there and truth be told. My car is just as nice or nicer than MI residents, I just never felt a need to live in financial isolation. We'll come back to the car. Almost everything you see here is 30% higher than a regular store, the only advantage to shopping her in my opinion is selection. You will find brands and items not normally found at Safeway or Fred Meyer, but I also saw sliced salami for nearly $24 a pound. You also see a lack of items on sale here which again, just reduces the overall value. I had people bumping into me, nudging me to get to items in front of me like I didn't matter and no one said excuse me or thank you for me yielding when they were clearly in the wrong. At one point, I literally had an employee apologize to me. He witnessed residents being entitled and rude to me and it was clear that was not the environment the store wanted to foster. My cashier was really nice, when I asked about her day, I think she quickly knew, I was not a local. Her face lit up and it was clear, she just wanted to be recognized. In the parking lot, I encountered a retired couple who had cut in front of me multiple times. They looked scared like I was there for payback. When I walked around there car the wife got worried, then I heard her tell her husband, "That's his car" next to their. As it turns out. We drive the exact same car, just difference colors. Matter of fact, I have 2 of them. I'm old school and last time I was here, this place was Albertson's Matter of fact, my childhood neighbor was the Store Director. . Last time I got so much attitude, I was in Medina. I'm happy for your success, but don't turn public places into uncomfortable atmosphere. It probably doesn't help that prices here are so unreasonable that people feel an obligation to act like idiots because they can afford to shop here weekly. The irony, I have shopped QFC on the south end and it feels like any other grocery store.

But the lunch omakase special is what I really wanted I think. But even so. The poke bowl was mixed. I have to unfortunately knock off the stars/taste because the rice I got was literally the worst rice I've ever had touching raw fish. The rice was like hard and stale. I even had a clump that looked like it was the burnt part from leaving it on the cooker for too long and it couldn't bite it. I know this place is for the fish, but there's a bare minimum expectation on rice quality. And the fish itself was good? Maybe cuz it's the poke and not the omakase (so mixed chopped pieces) but there were pieces that tasted super fresh and delicious and then there were pieces that had so much tendon I couldn't bite through it. The folks there were super nice and friendly especially since I had no idea what to order. Just wish I was more delighted by the meal, especially cuz it was like $18 poke bowl. I'll give it another try with hopes it's better next time.

To be clear, I will never set foot in your store again, backpack or no backpack, after being publicly treated like a criminal. I will not buy gas there. I have diverted my prescriptions to another pharmacy. I will not buy Starbucks there again. I will not get another vaccination there. I will not give your store another dime. The receipt checking? Fine. I do that at Costco. The store-within-a-store? Mildly inconvenient, but fine. The locking up ice cream? Sure, it probably helps my figure because I would never wait for someone to open it. But actively barring me entry as if I were a criminal? Humiliating me in public? When I am one of the last few paying customers of that store? Unbelievable. Good luck sustaining the business structured by that. Like I told the staffer who barred me entry: "I guess you don't want my money." At this rate, the only people left in your store will be people who came to steal from you.

So no problems there. But since we were here, decided to get something I've been wanting for a while. On a visit to a Miami's Whole Foods, noticed that they sell Golden Osetra Caviar from TSAR NICOULAI ($94.99 for an ounce). Like some other sale items, there is more of a discount if Prime member, so got the item for $76.99. In the same area, there are caviar accompaniments like blinis and creme fraiche, so got some of that too. Self checkout was easy: able to use the Amazon app to generate a barcode for my account, and was able to use the Amazon credit card to pay for it. The receipt was sent directly via email, but printing is possible as well. Well...the caviar ended up being not good even though the expiration date was in May (2 months out): mushy and tasted a bit like mud. My daughter and I looked online to see if that was what it was supposed to taste like, and decided that it was not...something in the supply chain had ruined it. Returning it the same day was hassle-free, with the employee just asking the reason for the return, and returning the amount back to my credit card.
