Some of the best tri-tip sandwiches I have ever had are made by Q-Time! I stumbled upon this place after doing a bike ride in Ojai about a year and a half ago and now we stop by every time we are in the area. It never disappoints! The tri-tip is amazingly tender, and sandwich bread is soft and garlicky and the bbq sauce is perfectly sweet and spicy. I love the little grocery store it's in as well (Ojai Valley Market). Holy Smokes this is some of the best barbecue I have ever eaten in my life!!! My friends and I took a day trip from Los Angeles up to Ojai and I had a hankering for barbecue! Well we asked around and were sent to this market. The food is AMAZING times 100! I ordered the most sumptuous delicious pulled pork, garlic fries (a HUGE serving with probably 30 cloves of garlic! and chili. My friends had tri tip and some salad sides but we were all raving. Recently my husband bought two ribeye steaks I cooked them as usual I have been cooking steak for 50 years and this steak was too tough to eat. I chewed and chewed and spit it out. My husband was braver than I and risked swallowing it. Don't worry he is ok. The 2 steaks were 35.00 we splurged this evening. The next day I put it in the crockpot and figured we could have burritos. When I thought about 35.00 for tough crockpot burrito dinner I thought heck with that! I called Q-time and the man in charge said bring in the meat and I could get my money back. I pulled it out of the crockpot (only in for 3 minutes) and dug the paper label out of the bottom of the trash. My husband never gets the receipt and took it over. The man in charge said, " Where is the receipt." I reminded him he said only meat (I added the label). He said I was out of luck. WHAT!!! He threw a 20 on the counter and said that was the best I was going to get. He had a mean attitude and I repeated that the steak was tough. My fault is that we have bought tough steak from Q-time before and every time it is tough. About every 6 months we try them this is the first time I wanted a refund. As I was leaving the coward insulted my cooking by saying it was tough because I don't know how to cook! Bad meat happens but a this point I think he passes bad meat as good. Don't get ripped off. I live close by and came home from work at 7. Decided to order a burger and chicken sandwich only to find out the "turned off the grill" early. The guy, Steve, (I think he said) kept stuttering and mentioned other items. I said "Aren't you open until 8pm? He said we turn off the grill at 7:30. I said it's 7:15. He started to suggest something else. I just said. "No thank you, I'll call JJ's Sport Zone" and hung up. Consistency is super important in any business, ESPECIALLY the business Hours. It's Basic consistent business principals. Anyway, I was disappointed with QTime but on the other hand, I had a great meal that I picked up from JJ Soorts Zone! We popped into Ojai Valley Market for some supplies and noticed the folks at Q-Time cooking away. We ordered tri-tip sandwiches and curly fries. We were blown away. The best sandwich I've had in a long time. The dude Aaron behind the counter mentioned his sausages and we took him up on it. We ordered a dozen Italian and a dozen jalapeno. They prepare tri-tip and ribs over a big bbq out in front of the Ojai Valley Ranch Market. It's always fresh, tender and delicious. Their sauce is unique, not too tangy and not too bland. We had a hard time finding this place - it's inside the grocery store and there are no signs with the name of the bbq joint outside the market; however the food was worth the search. The bbq pork sandwich was especially good and the bread was unique and fresh. They make their own bbq sauce and offer an assortment of sides that are popular by themselves. Seating is inside the market which is super clean and stocked with an amazing beer selection (for off-site consumption only). The owner of the market is super nice and takes pride in his business. We stopped in to take out a 2 meat combo plate and a pulled pork sandwich after a long day trip. The ribs were succulent, the sausage was seasoned perfectly, and the pulled pork was delicious. I wanted to give 5 stars, but I deducted one star because one of my sides was not included in the combo dinner. We did not see this until we had driven too far away. (We live an hour away.) I have been coming back since they opened.. first i was hooked on the roasted brussel sprouts.. then it has been a toss up, i get the 2 or 3 meat combo or the chicken strips and curly fries.. i love the tangy bbq sauce and meats are always cooked well to perfection and flavored as they shoild be. I was sad to see that the 11.95 2 meat combo is now ..16.95! The 3 meat combo was 13.95..now almost $20.00. ! The new raise in price is limiting for some customers especially now. We used these guys for a catered lunch at our fabrication shop. They got to us about an hour early, which was just fine. Lunch was served on time, and the spread was perfect. They bbq'd with their own bbq (hickory wood?): chicken, tri tip, ham, garlic mashed potatoes (OMG they were amazing), garlic green beans, rolls and salad. They provided all the cutlery, plates, and napkins. Our guys are picky and have a penchant for being hard to please... they all told me how good it was. Chicken and tri tip were tender. The only reason we didn't use it on the first wedding was because we had to use the food on site. This review was a little late because I was just recently in a corn-hole tournament down in Ventura Harbor where Q-Time was catering the event so it reminded me to get this review in. Aaron Johnson is the owner and I've got to know him through the last few weddings, on all three occasions his food was incredible. At first this place looks like another meat section in the grocery store but it is so much more! You can get half a pollo for 5 bones, what a deal! You should also get the ribs even tho they are a bit more pricy. But what ever you do, do not eat the food inside! It ruins it, you need to take it to a park or even the parking lot to truly appreciate your meal. You need to see the sunlight glistening off of the juicy, cooked to excellence, meat. I took my family to the nearby lake and proceeded to "eat the chicken like a poor person" according to my wife Tes Foodsman. After enjoying our meal as a family i did what any American would do and laid some towels down in the grass under a tree to have a nice after-meal nap with my smoking hot wife, and let me say that the taste of this food is increased 10 fold if you do the same and allow mother nature to grace your meal with all of her glory and beauty.
