I only booked my appointment at this location because they were the only optometrist in the area to take my insurance for medical reasons only. I must have verified my insurance with them a dozen times. I changed my name in the 6 months in between my appointments due to marriage and had to verify it all over again several times over the phone. After my last appointment, the receptionist called me while I was driving home and she accused me for not paying for my appointment. I tried to explain to her that my insurance should have covered everything, just like last time. She accused me of not having insurance and told me that they do not accept the type of insurance that I have, even though I knew they did because of my previous appointment. I was driving and could not recite my member ID number verbatim but figured they should have recorded it the SEVERAL times I told them the number in the past after the name change. But when I got home, I called and told them the updated ID and it should have been completely resolved. I guess not because they just left me a nasty email, weeks later, saying that if I did not respond to them they were going to send my invoice to collections. I called yet again to give them my ID number and insurance information. I have never dealt with so much drama over my health insurance coverage. If these receptionists could just have better record keeping when asking for insurance information this whole thing could have been avoided. Not to mention the rudeness and to be treated in such an unprofessional manner. I guess I'll have to go elsewhere for my eye care needs because it's not worth the drama! I'd actually pay out of pocket just to avoid it.

Friendly, patient front-woman, who didn't care when I tried on basically every pair of glasses ever. Tiny shop but relatively broad and well-chosen selection of frames - some very-high-end, some more 'normal'. Also I liked the doc's own personal glasses and he let me try them on. :D Problems: Sort of weird hours (since it is basically a one-person operation, can't expect them to work every minute I guess!) -- they don't have a website, though, and they don't always answer the phone or seem to have a message, so it is hard to tell when they will be there, etc. Personally I think that they should develop a web presence of some kind - doesn't have to be big or anything, but more info would be nice.

Yes, buying glasses in the optical shop is more expensive than going to a discount store, but they know their stuff! The quality of product is great. I actually have had a problem with the new pair of glasses I bought. I took them back right away and they suggested certain changes. The lenses were still not working with my eyes and now I'm switching frames and lenses to try another to make sure it works for me. I even was sent in to see the Dr to make sure my prescription was correct again. They are not going to let me down, and I truly appreciate that. Customer service is important, and they certainly provide it!

A Kingston mainstay for over half a century, I deeply regret not having visited before. Dr. Miller's experience and knowledge helped to alleviate any fears that might have evolved in my brain since my nightmare at Lenscrafters (see other review) last spring. After letting her know that I wouldn't trust that prescription for two seconds, she again said there'd be no charge.
