I only booked my appointment at this location because they were the only optometrist in the area to take my insurance for medical reasons only. I must have verified my insurance with them a dozen times. I changed my name in the 6 months in between my appointments due to marriage and had to verify it all over again several times over the phone. After my last appointment, the receptionist called me while I was driving home and she accused me for not paying for my appointment. I tried to explain to her that my insurance should have covered everything, just like last time. She accused me of not having insurance and told me that they do not accept the type of insurance that I have, even though I knew they did because of my previous appointment. I was driving and could not recite my member ID number verbatim but figured they should have recorded it the SEVERAL times I told them the number in the past after the name change. But when I got home, I called and told them the updated ID and it should have been completely resolved. I guess not because they just left me a nasty email, weeks later, saying that if I did not respond to them they were going to send my invoice to collections. I called yet again to give them my ID number and insurance information. I have never dealt with so much drama over my health insurance coverage. If these receptionists could just have better record keeping when asking for insurance information this whole thing could have been avoided. Not to mention the rudeness and to be treated in such an unprofessional manner. I guess I'll have to go elsewhere for my eye care needs because it's not worth the drama! I'd actually pay out of pocket just to avoid it.

Q Optical in Rhinebeck is the best optometrist ever. Yay!…read more Very sweet and nice doc who didn't mind that I am totally paranoid about my eyes and flinched throughout the exam. Friendly, patient front-woman, who didn't care when I tried on basically every pair of glasses ever. Tiny shop but relatively broad and well-chosen selection of frames - some very-high-end, some more 'normal'. Also I liked the doc's own personal glasses and he let me try them on. :D Problems: Sort of weird hours (since it is basically a one-person operation, can't expect them to work every minute I guess!) -- they don't have a website, though, and they don't always answer the phone or seem to have a message, so it is hard to tell when they will be there, etc. Personally I think that they should develop a web presence of some kind - doesn't have to be big or anything, but more info would be nice.

Yes, buying glasses in the optical shop is more expensive than going to a discount store, but they know their stuff! The quality of product is great. I actually have had a problem with the new pair of glasses I bought. I took them back right away and they suggested certain changes. The lenses were still not working with my eyes and now I'm switching frames and lenses to try another to make sure it works for me. I even was sent in to see the Dr to make sure my prescription was correct again. They are not going to let me down, and I truly appreciate that. Customer service is important, and they certainly provide it!

My usual eye place was closed and so when I looked for an open eye care center Vision Excel was open. I called and had an appointment within 2 hours of when I called. I had never been there and had not bought my glasses there but they assured me they could help. I went to the store, called from the parking lot (Covid-19 protocol!) and a tech came out and got my glasses. in under 5 minutes they had replaced both nose pieces, fixed the bend in the stem and checked the other screws. They also didn't charge me anything! I was so impressed with their customer care even though I had never been there before. They also take my insurance so I will be taking my family there as regular patients now! I am so thankful for their kindness and help! WONDERFUL PLACE and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!! Having had eye problems for decades now, my entire life, I've had more than enough experiences at optometrists and opticians, and I have to say this Lenscrafters in Kingston is the best. Both doctors, McKinney and Brown have seen me over the past 4 years at various times with various issues and they're both professional, kind, CLEAN (this isn't as usual as one would suppose!), very thorough. If you have questions, they really take the time to thoroughly explain your problems and concerns, in great detail if that's what you wish. I've also been able to make an appointment on very short notice for an emergency and was still treated kindly and with concern, never rushed or talked down to. Then there's the front of house service - these people are terrific. I don't know how Kingston managed to dig up and employ so many great people in one place, but they're all here. Honest opinions, alternative offerings, they take time to make recommendations on how to make the most of my insurance, they're never pushy. I would particularly mention Lance and Bridget, both have a sense of humour while being so very helpful. Lance has repaired my nosepieces on the fly and Bridget took the time to seek out a better case for my sunglasses. Both offer helpful and honest opinions of style and suitability. We no longer neither live nor work anywhere NEAR this Lenscrafters, in fact there's one much closer to us now and driving up there is frankly quite a distance, but I love the attention and service, so it's worth my while and gas money. It's a competitive business and they deserve two thumbs up.

I voiced my displeasure and asked for my bill. I also said that everybody I knew would know about this fiasco of an operation. The clerk hemmed and hawed, then went to speak with somebody. The clerk came back and said that there would be no charge but that they would keep the lens prescription. After letting her know that I wouldn't trust that prescription for two seconds, she again said there'd be no charge. But I reminded her that I had wasted my time and that I was still in shock over an 8 minute "exam". I can't think of anything that could have been worse than this place.
