I'm a sucker for Ropa Vieja and this one was delicious! I ate the beans, the maduros, and white rice! I also tried the Cuban sandwich and it's honestly the best one I've had. It was a lovely place to try during the week. They only had 1 person serving and working the front but she did an amazing job and was so kind. I like that they have live music on Fridays so I'll have to come back to check it out. It was nice, quiet spot and I truly enjoyed my first visit here.

Came here for the first time on a very excited note, however, that was not the case. The food is over priced and they serve what called kids size food. I ordered Vaca frita with yuca and arroz congri and a fruit shake. The congri came cold but tried to eat it and couldn't. The vaca frita meat came cold as well and I tried to eat it cold as well but I felt like I was going to get sick. I called the lady waitress and explained to her that my food was cold. She took my plate and a few minutes later, the same food came back. Rice was as hot as it should've been but the vaca frita meat was a little warm. I ate it because I was hungry but, I won't be visiting this place that I was hoping with excitement and expectations. Recommendations: 1-if you're going to charge over $17 for a very small amount of food that includes a very small amount of cheap rice and flavorless vaca frita, it should at least be served hot to customers. Additionally, your portions are for kids. My wife had to ask for more yuca since she was given three pieces for a plate that cost $17. I have attached a photo of Vaca Frita! The place is small and they have a Latin American grocery store next door! In closing, this is one of the few places that I have given a two or less stars and would hope that you take this constructive review to improve your food portions & prizes.

The restaurant is located next door to a Cuban grocery store. It has a colorful outside exterior and inside is a quant and welcoming spot with steady traffic. The staff is friendly and attentive. I ordered the Cubano sandwich with fries and my friend ordered the pork plate with Yucatan fries and plantains. The food arrived quickly and was seasoned well. The portion and the value was spot on. My sandwich was big and the bread was excellent. Crusty and soft at the same time. Her pork was tender and she really liked her food. A cool spot to check out.

We happen to be in the area of Converse at the Cuban grocery store and we saw that this restaurant next-door so we walked in because we figured it was a Cuban restaurant. It's a very cutely laid out restaurant with room for quite a few people. The staff was accommodating and friendly. We were the first I guess to come in at mid afternoon and we were well taken care of. We ordered the Cuban sandwich to divide between my wife and I. We also ordered some empanadas and I had a "café con leche" which was very good and well-made. The Cuban sandwich was one of the best. I have tried in all of San Antonio so I would most likely recommend this restaurant to anybody who is looking for a very good Cuban sandwich. Our server was more than welcoming and wanting to make sure that our request was adhered to, and it was. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the Cuban sandwich, therefore you'll have to just go there and try it. We will definitely return to this restaurant although it's a bit away from where we live. It was well worth the trip.

From the moment we walked in, the service was incredibly warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly. The food was absolutely amazing, fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The entire place was also very clean and well kept, which made the experience even better. I'm already excited to bring my mother in law here for her birthday.

Being a Cuban from Miami, I am disappointed in myself for not knowing there was a Cuban restaurant just minutes from my house. This place is hidden and almost missed it. The staff here is very friendly and the restaurant has some very nice decor, cool modern style. We ordered the Q Bola basket and a Cuban sandwich. The basket came out quick but the sandwich did take a bit long. However it was worth it! All if it was freshly made, tasted like real good Cuban food! Q Bola got this Cubans seal of approval! We will be regulars here!

First time here and I was craving a Cuban sandwich since my trip to Florida. Was a bit confused as you can't see the restaurant from the street. It is right next to China Express and right next door is also a small Cuban market. I didn't check it out though. I came here for the sandwich only, but I did order the Cuban croquettes. Ambiance was calming and cozy. I came on a Saturday afternoon and it was empty. You can still see the Halloween decors. It looks like they have a small selfie area or something. Nice wall decorations and I love the penny bar countertop. Really cool! I ordered my food to go and the wait time wasn't too long. Maybe a good 10-15 minites. Service was nice and friendly. I didn't have any problems with them. They speak English too. The croquettes were good, decent, with the basic mayo-ketchup dip. Nothing that stood out to me, but still good. The Cuban sandwich was just okay, not something I will order again. I didn't have too much of a high expectation, but I also didn't expect it to be meh. One of my favorite things of a Cuban sandwich is the pickles. This sandwich didn't have much pickles, just a few round cuts of pickles like what you would get from ordering a hamburger. It could use more swiss cheese also. The fries that came with the sandwich were not salted either. Overall, it was a simple Cuban sandwich that didn't have the wow factor for me as it had in Tampa. Would I recommend? Not sure yet. I would like to order other menu items to really decide if this restaurant is something I would recommend. Would I go back? Yes, I'm open to trying other menu items.

First time going to a Cuban restaurant and it didn't fail. The food was delicious and very flavorful. I got the Cuban sandwich and it was perfect. It was light, not heavy and perfectly well balanced. Our server was attentive and nice- no complaints there. It's a great restaurant for lunch or an early afternoon dinner. Haven't gone at night, but they had a small stage at the front- not sure for what. One of people with me is Cuban and he verified the food was authentic and would go back again!

I love this place since it offers authentic Cuban food. Today, I had the roast pork with Moro rice and yucca. It was amazingly delicious and reminded me of Cuban restaurants in Miami. The waitresses are extremely nice and friendly. If you love Cuban food you won't be disappointed.

We made reservations in advance (there is a $5 per person reservation fee), and the flyer advertised hours from 10am-2pm. However, when we arrived just before 11am, the restaurant was still closed. After checking in about our reservation, we were eventually seated and able to order drinks, which were brought out promptly. The buffet itself wasn't ready until around 11:45am, which was a bit of a wait, but once it opened, the food did not disappoint. There was a good variety of options, with the shredded pork and creamy garlic chicken being the standout dishes--both were absolutely delicious. The coffee was also strong and flavorful, which I appreciated. The restaurant has a warm, rustic feel, though parking is limited to street parking only. The staff seemed a bit disorganized and confused at times, but they were friendly throughout the experience. My only suggestion would be to offer a way to toast bread and bagels, or at least make that option more visible to guests. Overall, the quality of the food was solid, and despite a few hiccups with timing and organization, I'd be open to coming back and trying their buffet again.

What a pleasant surprise, it's restaurant week here in town. We decided to try their menu and also grab a Cubano while we're there. We started with the shrimp and the tapas. The shrimp was lite with a tropical feel to it. The tapas was very good. The pork was fork tender. Tacos and chicken came out next. The chicken was tender and full of flavor. The tacos were delicious. So many incredible flavors. Now for the reason we came. The Cubano! A soft bread, toasted to perfection with the right amount of meat, cheese, mustard, and pickles. Wow..... when that first bite hits your soul

One and done. Checked out Ernie's Patio Bar for the first time and decided to try this truck out…read morefor some dinner. Big mistake. The photos and descriptions on their truck and menu look amazingly mouthwatering. Naturally, we ordered based on that. What we received was NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, like what we saw or read. Unfortunately, I didn't get good pics because it was already dark. DH ordered the Cubano Sliders. 4 sliders with fries, and he opted for the garlic Parmesan fries. We've had plenty of sliders in our lives, and these things were TINY. They looked like delicious sliders in the menu photo, but you know the chicken minis you can get at Chik-Fil-A? That's how big they were. One or 1 1/2 bites each. Super small. The fries very garlic-heavy, but we like garlic so that wasn't too terrible, but the fries themselves were not good. Too crisp and dry inside, they just snapped off when you took a bite. The other dish was Pollo Guisado. I'm not denying what "guisado" style chicken is, and in my photo it is pretty accurate, but the photo they display- which was what I wanted- is completely different. Couldn't be more opposite! Their photo and description showed whole pieces of chicken with grilled peppers and onions, rice on the side. Looked pretty delicious. The young girl who took my order said they could do vegetables but it's extra. Huh? Ok, but the picture with the vegetables looked great so I went with it. She asked which beans I wanted (not in the menu photo) but I chose to skip the beans. What I received was a pile of pulled chicken (found a few bones inside!) with rice, some previously frozen mixed vegetable blend (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots) that tasted way off, and fried plantains whose dominant flavor was the oil in which they were cooked. No whole pieces of chicken, no grilled peppers and onions, nothing in any way resembling what they advertised on their truck. For the two meals, it cost roughly $31. Not worth it in any way whatsoever. FWIW, our friend ordered a burger from the other truck and enjoyed it. We enjoyed Ernie's itself but the next time we go, we'll either get a burger from the other truck or get better food down the street. We were so hopeful for this one but it's a hard pass from here on out.

We went around 2:30 on a weekday so the lunch rush had died down and it was pretty much empty at that point. Waldito greeted us warmly and made us feel like family. He was basically our personal chef for the hour or so we were there. We weren't familiar with too many of the traditional dishes but he explained everything and we took his recommendations. There's nothing boojay about the place and they weren't playing music at the time but the love that this man put into his food was breathtaking. Couldn't recommend it enough for people looking to avoid touristy spots and just looking to eat some authentic cuisine made with tons of TLC. We plan on coming by at least once a month to support!

My husband and I have been here before but we can't remember if it was owned by the same person…read more I'm sure I would have remembered Chef Waldito! Upon arriving, we were welcomed by the Chef Waldito with open arms, amazing energy and you can tell he absolutely LOVES what he does! The restaurant is small but cozy with accolades all over the wall. He explained the menu, the buffet and said he would make anything to order but recommended the buffet. How could you not have a smile on your face when someone talks straight from the heart about making food for his customers?!? We opted for the buffet which was all you can eat and his homemade tea for only $12!! He says he only makes enough money to cover the rent because feeding people was his love language. This touched us! You can get either one or both soups. He served a seafood soup and a chicken noodle soup. The soups was very flavorful and warm. He also serves bread with it as well. The chicken noodle soup was on point! It was flavorful, the noodles were cooked well and wasnt mushy. He will serve you the buffet. It had roasted chicken, then a chicken stew with Caribbean vegetables (plantains, yucca, etc), yucca, black or red beans and either white or rice with gandules. Being that my husband is from the islands, we know flavor! Unfortunately, the beans and the stew had little to no flavor, not even salt. Additionally, the beans were burnt. The arroz con gandules was odd. It lacked flavor and I'm not sure how you can get mushy but underdone rice. The stew tasted like it was just watered down. He graciously made fresh fried Maduros which were great and fried pork as well. The tea that came with it was very good! I'd definitely order a pitcher of it! It had a lot of fruit and floral notes for a tea! Unfortunately, the food missed the mark for us. We couldn't even finish it, let alone even eat half. We were so disappointed because you can tell he absolutely loves and lives off of his love for cooking. I don't know if my husband and I were off on our taste buds that day. I gave this a three star because Chef Waldito was such a pleasure to be around. He made it worth while and I don't want his restaurant to fail. If it were solely on the food, I truly hate to say it but I would have given it a one star. If there's a next time, we might just order off the menu! We do wish him luck and if he or someone that knows him reads this, we hope it will be more helpful than hurtful.
