First time at Push! This is a very affordable spot to go and have good laughs. I visited Push to support my friend very first on stage performance. There isn't much of a waiting area between shows, or seating for that matter. However, once you enter the actual show room, there are chairs, concessions and bathrooms. There is limited adult beverages, but they are there. There is nothing fancy about the food, however for $5 entry, I didn't come for food.

Improv 101 Graduating Class (November 2018 - January 2019)

I feel like it's appropriate to write my 500th review about a place that's pretty special to me. I started doing Improv Comedy as a hobby two years ago as a creative outlet to alleviate stress from work. A little over a year ago, I wanted to learn more so I decided to enroll in Improv 101 with The Pushers and I'm so happy I did. My teacher for Improv 101, Brad (who is one of The Pushers), has been vital in showing me the art of Improv, stage presence, and how to make your scene partner look good. I loved it so much that I decided to also take Improv 201 and 301 which really breaks down the structure of how to perform a successful improv set. I also plan on taking Improv 401 and 501 in the future. Moreover, all of The Pushers are really great teachers. In addition, after you get your feet wet and have taken a class, there are several opportunities that are provided for students to perform on the Push Comedy Theater stage in front of a public audience. It's pretty fun and gives you the opportunity to do something out of your comfort zone. I've had the opportunity to perform countless times and each time honestly feels better than the last. All in all, through taking improv classes at Push Comedy Theater I've met tons of wonderful people, sharpened my communication skills, and have become a lot more confident in performing for audiences on stage. The Pushers are great people.

I visited Push for the BHM show featuring Lemon Pepper Sazon. It was amazing. The cast members did improv, scripted skits and featured local comedians. The show was so good! I didn't know what to expect, but I was thoroughly impressed from the production to the snack bar!

Push is always coming out with new and creative shows! You can take improv or other comedy classes here, too! They even have classes for kids and teens! You can't find a better spot for a night out. Great atmosphere and great people! Even if you come alone, you will always make friends! They sell wine and beer on draft and even have special drinks for different shows. Definitely check this place out!

Push Comedy is one of my favorite places in Norfolk. It's right on Granby so there are tons of Things around as far as eateries and places to drink. They serve beer and snacks inside so that you can eat, drink and be merry during the shows and the classes are amazing. I've been apart of the theatre since late 2017, early 2018 and I love the community. They make you feel welcome and get you involved in the audience even if it's your first show and there is ALWAYS something going on. Not to mention the shows are HILARIOUS. They also host free shows as well.

What an awesome place to have in downtown Norfolk!! My husband and I have heard of the Push Comedy Theater through some friends who have taken improv classes there. We didn't quite know what to expect, but we had the opportunity to see a friend perform at the March Madness 3 on 3 Improv Tournament. Tickets were only $5 each (a steal, in my opinion) and they can be purchased online. There is parking on the street and a parking lot in the back, but we decided to Uber. Show started at 8pm, so we got drinks at Work Release next door (which I HIGHLY recommend since their happy hour specials are AMAZING.) After a drink, we headed back to Push to grab seats. The check-in process was super easy; if you pre-ordered tickets, they already had you in the system. The theater is a 99-seat venue with a small stage, high ceilings and intimately lit. They do have snacks (hot dogs, candy, and chips) and cheap and local beer for sale at the "Wiener Hole". We recommend you bring cash to make the transaction easier. Try to be early to the event so you won't get heckled as you come through the door! The show was so much fun and it was awesome to watch all the talented performers. It is so impressive to watch people doing what they love and having the time of their lives. Every Friday since the first 3 on 3 Improv Show, we have returned to cheer on our beloved group "The Catnips"! It has become our new Friday hangout spot and we even told friends to join us! We will be back to see the FINAL showdown on Friday, April 1st. I am really glad to see that the NEON arts district is blooming into a much-needed and refreshing part of Downtown Norfolk.

We were able to park right across the street and walk on over right as the doors were about to open for our Sunday, 1 pm show, We were in rather quickly and through the security monitoring where we were able to then snag some snacks and drinks before we headed to our seats. We sat in the dress circle in row A and let me just say that was a great choice. With our seven-year-old along, it can be difficult to keep her still so this seat choice allowed us a little bit of space in a spot to lean and helped her stay engaged in watching the whole production. The only complaints that I have, is that when it is a full house, there aren't nearly enough bathrooms available for the short intermission. And of course, snacks and drinks are probably the same although, to be honest, I didn't stand in line for those so I can't say for certain, just from what I saw heading to the restroom. That being said, our seating is fab and we had a great view, even from up high!

The entire audience seemed excited for the performance, with the Christmas spirit felt throughout the lobby and theater. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The available concessions were tasty, though the spiked eggnog was sorely missed this year. One recommendation would be to improve communication regarding drink availability at the bars. If certain beverages are not served at the theater entrance bar (like hot cocoa and coffee), they should not appear on that menu, or guests should be informed before waiting in line. I witnessed dozens of theatergoers being told after a long wait that hot drinks were only available at the side bar by the front windows which created a lot of unnecessary frustration. The Wells Theatre has a wonderful antique nostalgia while remaining well maintained and very clean. We were fortunate to experience the show from a completely different seat location that previous years, on the opposite side of the house, and the updated writing and script changes were enough to keep the production feeling fresh and engaging. We also appreciated the intermission being placed after the First Spirit rather than after the Second, as in previous years, as it made the acts feel more balanced. Additionally, the return of the Third Spirit's in-audience entrance was definitely appreciated.

The staff were friendly as we checked in and found our seats, and the Green Room bar is a nice touch if you'd like to enjoy a beverage during the performance. As for the show--Gaslight--I was genuinely impressed. The acting was superb, the set design captured the period beautifully, and the tension of the story was carried expertly by the cast. This classic psychological drama tells the story of Bella Manningham and her manipulative husband Jack, whose strange behavior slowly convinces Bella that she may be losing her sanity. Without giving away the mystery, the production builds suspense masterfully and delivers a powerful payoff that keeps the audience fully engaged. If you enjoy live theatre performed at a high level, The Little Theatre of Norfolk is well worth a visit. Not only will you enjoy a great evening of entertainment--you'll also be supporting a wonderful part of Norfolk's local arts community.

We had happily volunteered as ushers for many productions from plays to musicals and made it one of our favorite dates for several seasons. We always enjoyed the remarkable talent, time, and commitment this local theatre brings out to share with the community from the fantastic stage designs and sets to its diverse and talented casts of performers. The Green Room offers light refreshments for purchase and has fundraising raffles, too. It's a neat place to stop into during intermission, and you're now permitted to bring your beverage into the theatre now, as long as you're mindful to remove and dispose of your trash when leaving the theatre. The theatre's name might include the word little, but it has a large heart! Let's keep it clean! While we are big fans of Broadway in New York City, and have purchased season tickets to Broadway in Norfolk, the Little Theatre of Norfolk provides amazing shows and performances that we highly recommend. So, when a friend saw that LTN was offering 'In the Heights, A New Musical' by Lin-Manuel Miranda, we couldn't wait to join them for the show. It was their first time at LTN. We're all big fans of Lin-Manuel and this weekend's performance did not disappoint. We were moving to the beats and humming in our seats. The set designs were vivid and bright, and the lighting used on and off stage, along with the cast singing and dancing in the aisles were electric. Job well done LTN!

Our children have yet to take any classes to date, but my daughter may do so in the near future. The Hurrah Players began back in 1984 with humble beginnings in a church basement in Ghent. The founder and Artistic Director Hugh Copeland has led his team of thespians for almost 30 years. It has taken years of work, strategic partners that believed in them and ultimately Town Bank to put them in their beautiful new historic building in 2010. Hurrah now calls the original Old Norfolk Academy Building off of St. Paul's Blvd in Norfolk home sweet home. A few unique items about the building. It's architect is Thomas U. Walter, the same man who was the architect of the U.S. Capitol Dome. Also Edgar Allen Poe gave his very last speech here. A 100 seat Perry theater for smaller productions is located in the building. Lager productions are a few blocks away at The Roper Theater. The purpose of The Hurrah Players is not only educational in nature through classes offered at their home, but an appreciation for the arts and dance is instrumental to their mission. Through stages show big and small, Spring Break camps and Summer camps they full fill this mission. Hurrah staff builds confidence in the children they work with and at the end of the day a quality, affordable product for the paying audience when the curtain goes up. The show that is currently in production is Hurrah for the Holiday and tickets are on sale now.. Performances are Dec 13,14,15 at the Roper. This is an annual show and never disappoints. The kids do a great job and you will be into the Christmas spirit after attending. Even if you are not a thespian, or into theater yourself, I urge you to give a Hurrah show an opportunity to impress you. Most of the actors are children and put blood, sweat and tears into their productions. I doubt you will be disappointed and most likely will fall in love with The Hurrah Players much like our family has.

Despite her lack of interest in becoming an actress, singer, or dancer, she continues to ask to return. These summer camps are taken seriously and are challenging. The aim is for each age group to put on a play for their parents at the end of two weeks, so the teachers are very dedicated. The kids are kept active and engaged from the moment they arrive until they leave. Though it can be intense, it is worthwhile if they stick with it after the first three days. The students learn about every aspect of the stage, including singing, acting, dancing, and stage production. Many of the previous camp attendees have gone on to start their careers on Broadway or television. I have enjoyed all of the end-of-camp performances, but the most recent one in June 2023 was exceptional. The Hurrah Players is amazing, and I highly recommend it for your children, whether they want to attend summer camps or classes throughout the year. They will gain a lot of knowledge and make great friends along the way.
