The theater has been calling my name! I'm literally haven't been in over a year. So I'm thrilled that they have actual shows. I've seen a Christmas Carol so many times here. This year's version was different but entertaining. More of a musical but with the same theme. Tickets are not cheap by any means but totally worth it. Intermission was eggnog spikes with Rum Chata, how fabulous is that?! Lovely place, lovely time.

This place is beautiful! I was invited here via Yelp to check out opening night of "The Hound of the Baskervilles". It's been a long time since I've been to a play. I think my last encounter with theater was about 6+ years ago when Wicked came to the Scope. So I was excited to see and support something a little more local. I had never been to this Theater before, but I had an idea of where it was located. It's pretty much right behind the Macarthur Mall. So if I were you, I would park at the mall and just walk there. Which is what we did. When you walk inside it almost feels like you are taken back in time. To a time where theater was reserved for only those of wealth. It was beautiful to say the least. Most everyone was gathered in the lobby, chatting, and drinking complimentary glasses of Champagne. Not sure if they do this every night they have a play, or if it was because it was the opening night of ours, but it was a great way to kick off the evening. There is also a bar in the lobby. I;d recommend getting a glass of wine or something to sip on while you wait for the show to begin. I did see some people bring their beers into the auditorium, not sure if that's allowed or not, but it seems doable. We were seated in the top section in the center. Great seats, minus the lights on the floor. I think they are emergency lights? They were incredibly bright and actually started taking away from the show, especially when the lights would go dark, which happened a few times during the production. My peripherals were taking a major hit and it started making me a bit sick. If I could have one and only suggestion for the theater it would be to turn them down. They are just entirely too bright. Other than that we had a WONDERFUL time! The show itself had us crying from laughter. It reminded me how much I miss the theater. And attending this one is a real treat! I read from past reviews that they have "A Christmas Carol" playing here during Christmas time. My family and I are always looking for fun Christmas-y things to do while my father is in town. I definitely will make it back here this Christmas so the rest of my family can experience such a wonderful experience at this magnificent theater!j

The Wells Theater off Granby in the heart of downtown Norfolk, home ot the Virginia Stage Company, is a venue like none other. It has been restored to its former glory, and, I dare say, it may be even better. It is a joy to attend VSC performances here. The creative team at VSC presents six plays per season. Last night, we enjoyed one of my favorite plays of all time, My Fair Lady. VSC did not disappoint. While I did not think it possible, they made My Fair Lady even better! The unique staging, including dual pianos onstage at all times and incorporated into the acting at times, was a stroke of genius. VSC draws some truly gifted actors and directors. We are truly blessed to have the Virginia Stage Company in Hampton Roads. Season tickets are a must! Get them now!

It's a real treat to watch a production by the Virginia Stage Company. I've been fortunate to many shows, all of which have been fantastic. Performances are held at the Wells Theater, which deserves a visit in and of itself. The theater was built in 1913 and is restored with ornate fixtures and is truly spectacular. The staging and props are always excellent, but usually simple in keeping with the budget of a community-supported theater. The actors are true professionals and give amazing performances. Get to the theater as often as you can!

I had never been here until a few nights ago when I came for Hollywood style event. It was unexpectedly beautiful and reminded me of a miniature version of the San Francisco Opera House. Lots of lush decor makes it feel very dramatic. It was the perfect venue for this event!

I've been here only twice. Once was a back stage showing of Hansel and Gretel (we took the kids from work there) and then just yesterday to see The Fanstasticks. The theater is small - but that's what you get when you're talking historic. It's absolutely beautiful! I'd love to come back! The seats we had were great and I think that there really is no terrible seat in this house.

We saw Pride and Prejudice today. Virginia Stage Company put on a fabulous !

I thought we were really running late and were going to l be rushing to get in before doors closed but we got in with 20 minutes to spare. Getting through security was a breeze. Allied Universal did a great job getting people through efficiently. I had a clear bag so they didn't even have to search through it. The staff was very friendly and helpful from the security at the door to the usher who helped us find our seat. We purchased our ticket on Ticketmaster and they were super easy to quickly pull up and scan using the Apple Wallet feature. The show was fantastic and Josh Johnson was hilarious. I do recommend that if you want to buy merch or have to use the bathroom you do so before the show ends because it's quite chaotic with everyone trying to leave at the same time. The location of the men's bathroom on the second floor goes against the flow of the crowd of you're on the first floor like we were. All in all though I highly recommend this venue and would not hesitate to see a show here again.

The staff were friendly as we checked in and found our seats, and the Green Room bar is a nice touch if you'd like to enjoy a beverage during the performance. As for the show--Gaslight--I was genuinely impressed. The acting was superb, the set design captured the period beautifully, and the tension of the story was carried expertly by the cast. This classic psychological drama tells the story of Bella Manningham and her manipulative husband Jack, whose strange behavior slowly convinces Bella that she may be losing her sanity. Without giving away the mystery, the production builds suspense masterfully and delivers a powerful payoff that keeps the audience fully engaged. If you enjoy live theatre performed at a high level, The Little Theatre of Norfolk is well worth a visit. Not only will you enjoy a great evening of entertainment--you'll also be supporting a wonderful part of Norfolk's local arts community.

We saw "Hand to God" for our first Generic Theatre production and were incredibly impressed by the quality production. I am a NYC transplant who loves the experimentation and risk of off broadway shows and this show delivered on all counts from the welcoming greeting at the front of the house to the imaginatively clever and versatile set design and the outstanding acting. The detailed dressing and props and musical accompaniment (Van Halen anyone?) all enhanced this terrific show! It is the acting that impressed the most and, as would be expected, it's Brenden Hoyle's portrayal of Jason/Tyrone (his evil hand puppet) that made this production a must-see. Since this review is about the theater experience itself I won't go into detail, however, the director was able to really evoke feeling and character from each actor in an intense, dark play about grief and religion and sex. This play was funny and had LOTS of laughs - only talented actors and directors can straddle this edge! Every member of the cast and crew was exceptional and definitely deserving of the heartfelt standing ovation they received! We can't wait til the next Generic Theater performance!

Our children have yet to take any classes to date, but my daughter may do so in the near future. The Hurrah Players began back in 1984 with humble beginnings in a church basement in Ghent. The founder and Artistic Director Hugh Copeland has led his team of thespians for almost 30 years. It has taken years of work, strategic partners that believed in them and ultimately Town Bank to put them in their beautiful new historic building in 2010. Hurrah now calls the original Old Norfolk Academy Building off of St. Paul's Blvd in Norfolk home sweet home. A few unique items about the building. It's architect is Thomas U. Walter, the same man who was the architect of the U.S. Capitol Dome. Also Edgar Allen Poe gave his very last speech here. A 100 seat Perry theater for smaller productions is located in the building. Lager productions are a few blocks away at The Roper Theater. The purpose of The Hurrah Players is not only educational in nature through classes offered at their home, but an appreciation for the arts and dance is instrumental to their mission. Through stages show big and small, Spring Break camps and Summer camps they full fill this mission. Hurrah staff builds confidence in the children they work with and at the end of the day a quality, affordable product for the paying audience when the curtain goes up. The show that is currently in production is Hurrah for the Holiday and tickets are on sale now.. Performances are Dec 13,14,15 at the Roper. This is an annual show and never disappoints. The kids do a great job and you will be into the Christmas spirit after attending. Even if you are not a thespian, or into theater yourself, I urge you to give a Hurrah show an opportunity to impress you. Most of the actors are children and put blood, sweat and tears into their productions. I doubt you will be disappointed and most likely will fall in love with The Hurrah Players much like our family has.

Despite her lack of interest in becoming an actress, singer, or dancer, she continues to ask to return. These summer camps are taken seriously and are challenging. The aim is for each age group to put on a play for their parents at the end of two weeks, so the teachers are very dedicated. The kids are kept active and engaged from the moment they arrive until they leave. Though it can be intense, it is worthwhile if they stick with it after the first three days. The students learn about every aspect of the stage, including singing, acting, dancing, and stage production. Many of the previous camp attendees have gone on to start their careers on Broadway or television. I have enjoyed all of the end-of-camp performances, but the most recent one in June 2023 was exceptional. The Hurrah Players is amazing, and I highly recommend it for your children, whether they want to attend summer camps or classes throughout the year. They will gain a lot of knowledge and make great friends along the way.
