Andrew is the man! I came in with an Epiphone Studio E1 to be restrung which was quoted at $24.99 and cost of strings. Set to be same day service (which Guitar Center couldn't do) and their selection of strings is much greater than Guitar Center with service at at even lower cost. This is a fresh out of the box guitar and when describing some of the issues I was facing, Andrew tried it out and gave his expert opinion offering to setup the guitar for me and smooth out some of the flaws which came from factory. AND GAVE ME A LOANER GUITAR (Epiphone Special II) / CASE TO HOLD ONTO IN THE MEANWHILE!!! As I expressed that it was my only model and going without it for a week or two would be a bummer. I know this probably doesn't make sense in every situation for every customer however it really shows what a great man Andrew is and how he cares for his customers. I ended up paying $93.77 bucks for the setup (and restring which is what I originally came in for) which I feel is a great deal for the quality of work and amount of services being done to my guitar. Andrew is a genuinely humble, down to earth guy who knows his craft. I will be taking all repairs AND future guitar purchases to Pursell Lutherie. The amount of entry to high level guitars which already come with Pursell's expertise at VERY affordable prices, I would've never purchased this guitar in the first place from Guitar Center and went directly here. read more

They charged me an unreasonably low price for work that went way beyond what I anticipated was needed. Andy and I spent a lot of time taking about music and other things. I took an old (1950s), battered, rusted, and broken Orpheum archtop guitar in for basic restoration (just cleaned up and some bad cracks repaired -- no refinishing), and luthier Andrew Purcell did an excellent job on it, within a reasonable amount of time (I think about two weeks), and for a quite reasonable price. I didn't attempt to get it back to like-new condition (which I have no doubt Andrew could have done -- I've tested one of his own hand-made guitars, and it was first rate) but the basic repair was great. This particular guitar doesn't have an adjustable truss rod (though the neck isn't too bad considering how poorly it had been treated and badly stored), and it's just not worth the cost of full restoration to me. Anyway, I highly recommend Bayberry Music for guitar repairs -- and also recommend trying one of Andrew's own guitars if you're in the market for an excellent original. I own a Collings OM-2H, and would say the original guitar I played at Bayberry was, for me, in that league, though with a somewhat warmer sound, if I remember correctly. read more

Just found bayberry on the web after a guitar repair search. Read all of the website and it reads like they are very knowledgeable and skilled. I'm very hopeful because they are local to me. I don't trust the repair guys at canton guitar center and blues airman are never very welcoming. Or even polite! I had a great experience working with Bayberry Music. I have owned a Stradivarius replica for the last 19 years (from middle school to now) and unfortunately neglected it for 10. It needed to be repaired after getting a scratch from a cheaply made violin case along with new strings, a new case, and a new shoulder rest. Andrew and Joel looked at the violin and gave me an estimate the same day. They costed out each suggested repair and gave me what I feel was an honest opinion as to whether each item was necessary and also a price range of the repair/replacement item. They also found that one of the items did not need to be completed (bridge height didn't need to be repaired just straightened) and therefore did not charge me. Each repair was well done and I got back my instrument in 1 week (I probably could've gotten it back sooner but I told them I wasn't in a rush). I'd highly recommend Bayberry for honest feedback and craftsmanship. Thank you! read more
